Horse racing tips

I'm so jealous of you who were there to witness this!
I don't care if it wasn't such fierce competition, Sprinter Sacre is pure joy.

Amazing, impeccable, jaw dropping etc etc etc!!! By the way if you prefer the C4 commentary ( I do) their C4 racing page on youtube is very good and all the main races from the festival are up.

Cheers for the tip; now I'm stuck on the C4 youtube page! :wenger:
(And yes, I prefer their commentary too.)

I'm going to the grand national in a couple of weeks and it is safe to say that I know feck all about horse racing. Anyway, if anyone has a few tips they wouldn't mind chucking my way for the days betting, then I would be very grateful. :D

I may even throw in a Kenwood juicer to anyone that gives me a tip that lands me in the money.

Will give my opinions two days before the meeting mate must see what the ground is like first, must surely stop raining soon!!

Hope so. The ones I fancy prefer good ground.

The Guineas isn't far off either and soft ground there would be a disaster for my ante-post bets.

No worries mate. Thanks for the help. ;)

I'm goin aswell and study the race obsessively every year. Been reading up about it for the last couple of weeks and have gone for the following.

Colbert Station 16/1
Teaforthree 18/1
Join Together 18/1
Across the Bay 33/1

All e/w

CS and JT are raw but are very progressive. CS may have Tony McCoy on board which will help its chances. JT is an a brilliant jumper and check out its finish in the Becher Chase in December. It doesnt meet many of the stats but Paul Nicholls trains it and could get 2 in a row after Neptune Collonge last year. Teaforthree is a stats pick. Across the Bay is one of McCains horses that have a great record in this race and also looks progressive and at good odds.

All four are solid jumpers and stayers. All like it quite soft which is how its looking at the minute.

Great mate, thanks. ;)

Early tip for the Lincoln on Saturday, Hit The Jackpot from the David O Meara stable. Will be a lot shorter on the day, bred to appreciate cut in the ground too. Here's hoping.

You been before? Its a great day out. I've been all but one years since 2004. Had a great record with getting the winner but the last few years havn't been successful. Last year was beat on the line, would have won £400

No I have never been mate. Can't wait though, should be a good crack.

Its a really top day out. Grand National night is also pretty mental as well. The queuing part of it was the only real pain in the arse. Make sure the your coach has a toilet!!!!!

Get ready for the false tan!!!!

One of my fancies for the national, Across the Bay, drifted ridiculously on betfair last night. I had never used the site before but seeing it go out to 185/1 i signed up and put a couple of pound on it. Apparently someone got it at 550/1. Anyway the drift is unexplained, the owner and trainer have reported it fine so pretty good odds i got there!

Drawn favourably, too. O'Meara has a decent record with new arrivals from Ireland, should be interesting. I also like the look of Swiftly Done in the same race (drawn 5). Similar to Hit The Jackpot, acts on soft ground and has a CD win to his name. 7lb claimer on board which I'm a tad sceptical about, but the yard must have confidence in him. 25/1 with most firms.

On a related note, the Spring Mile earlier in the day will be a good indicator of where the jockeys will congregate coming up the track. It's too late for those who are ante-posting, but may prove significant to those having a flutter tomorrow afternoon. It's thought that those drawn on either rail have an advantage, but I think it's slightly overplayed (I believe they do have a narrow advantage, but if the horse is good enough, they'll win from a middle draw, too.)

News that I've know for a while but it's finally in the public domain today :(

McNamara suffers paralysis after fall

Jockey JT McNamara was said to be in a positive frame of mind in hospital in Bristol on Friday as his family reported that he had suffered paralysis as the result of a fall at the Cheltenham Festival.

The well-known amateur rider has been in Frenchay Hospital since March 14, when he was airlifted from the racecourse following from a first-fence fall from Galaxy Rock in the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup Chase.

His family has kept the racing world up to date with statements issued jointly by Dr Adrian McGoldrick, senior medical officer of the Turf Club, and Injured Jockeys Fund chief executive Lisa Hancock, who on Friday evening disclosed further details of McNamara's injuries.

The statement read: "JT McNamara remains in the Frenchay Hospital, Bristol. Whilst he suffered a serious neck injury resulting in paralysis, he has made progress in the last week and is in a very positive frame of mind.

"He is greatly appreciative of the many messages, cards and letters received and also wishes to thank the Frenchay Hospital who are looking after him so well."

My heart goes out to his young family and friends. If there is any silver lining here it is that they will want for absolutely nothing.

Its not nice, but I find it hard to feel sorry for jockeys who get injured. No one cries a tear when a horse breaks its neck after being forced to jump a very high obstacle at high speed and is put down. Jockeys willingly get on those horses. The animal has no choice.

I'm gonna do the right thing here, bite my tongue and log out because you clearly haven't a fecking clue about the sport.

That's incredibly harsh on the horse racing community. Many of those people love their horses like children and I'm sure plenty of tears are shed when they hurt themselves or die.

Yes there's risks involved in riding horses, but if someone fell off a motorbike or had a bad car smash would you be so callous?

I'm not being callous. I don't wish any harm on any jockey or anyone.

Callous doesn't mean you wish harm. It means you don't care about harm caused, and that certainly seems to be the case with your words in the last few posts.

So much for biting your lip, and say what you want dip shit, but that's how I feel.

Dip shit? I did bite my lip, if you truely believe that "no one cries a tear" when horses are fatally injured then you know nothing about the sport and have never worked within the sport. And horses are not "forced" to do anything, if there is one animal you cannot bully into doing anything it is a horse.

I never said I didn't care. I said I find it difficult to feel sorry for jockeys who get injured when the horse is unwillingly put through so much. Sorry lads, but thats the way I feel, so I'll move along.

Had a little each-way punt on Bancnuanaheireann @ 25/1 as he caught my eye last week before the race was postponed. Goes well on soft ground and has shown before he's capable of a strong finish, I feel he's value at the price.

Looks like we're going to have decent ground in the National. My usual policy is to throw five or six darts at the race in the hope of hitting the bullseye. This year I have:

Teaforthree @ 20/1
Chicago Grey @ 47/1
Cappa Bleu @ 15/1
Imperial Commander ew @ 28/1 NRNB
Roberto Goldback ew @ 33/1 NRNB

Backed Chicago Grey when the weights came out. Not sure it's his sort of race but the price at the time was too big.

Oscar's Well is worth a bet in the 4.30 at Fairyhouse today. He's the best horse in the race but is around 9/2.

Every horse I've ever had in training has been cared for by stable staff as a member of their family.

I've also had one that got fed up with racing and wouldn't try anymore.

I'm sure a horse wouldn't choose to run these courses by choice. I'm sure I heard that the most horses that has finished a grand national is 23 out of 40. And yet they raised a few jumps last year didnt they?

You know that doesn't mean the other 17 died.

Its a tough little race that one Nearco. Not sure about the distance for Oscars Well, dya reckon he'll stay? Elliots 2nd string ew for me

Turned out a real poor renewal and Oscar's didn't stay at all. I think he needs good ground over 20f.

Thought it was a clever ride ride by Condon, got 12/1 to win and 7/2 on a place so I was happy enough.

Cant understand why Barry Geraghty isnt riding Panther Claw tomorrow. Backed him in Navan the last day. Im between that and Moore's horse...
