Horse racing tips

Truly great performance: missed break, muddling pace, bottomless ground and over the longer trip still wins.

So happy for Henry Cecil. I believe he is ten times champion trainer. He beat stomach cancer a few years back and is being treated for cancer again. He is one of my heroes.

I couldn't really see him making a chaser though anyway. He'd have been better going the Rite of Passage route and running on the flat.

Excited about the Jumps kicking into gear. Not had a bet yet but ante-post I'm on Flemenstar for the Gold Cup (fantastic jumper of a fence, will stay the trip based on pedigree and not reliant like so many Irish chasers on having soft ground) and Fingal Bay for the RSA Chase.

Yep saw him in the flesh he looked nothing like a potential chaser but sometimes the smallest are the breavest. Agree about the jumps, can't beat it. Only 1 ante post for me so far thats Back In Focus for the RSA at 20s purely because if it came up soft at the festival he'd go off a quarter of the price.

Chasing legend Kauto Star retired

A legendary horse who probably won us all a few bob at one point....

Paul Nicholls has confirmed that Kauto Star, the five-time King George VI Chase winner, has been retired after a remarkable career.

Writing in his exclusive column at www.betfair.com/paulnicholls the champion trainer said on Wednesday: "The end of an era has finally arrived. Clive (Smith) was here this morning and we have taken the decision to retire Kauto Star.

"We have had nine superb years with the horse but, after seeing him in his work these past few weeks, myself, Clifford and Dan were of the opinion that the time had arrived to retire him.

"Of course, as owner, the final decision rested with Clive, but he agreed that the horse had done enough.

"Don't get me wrong, Kauto looks and feels as vibrant as ever, as those who saw him at our owners' Open Day last month would testify to. He was mad fresh that day and continues to be as alert as ever and very, very well in himself. But I suspect Kauto will be like that when he is 20 years old.

"And, deep down, we know he has done enough - and in some ways I think we have to protect him from himself. And maybe ourselves, too. If he did go to Kempton and win or run well, would you really want to run him - or be able to resist the temptation - in the Gold Cup?

"I am not so sure.

"Kauto is signing off in full health and after a season in which he proved so many people wrong by winning a fifth King George and a fourth Betfair Chase, to add to his two Cheltenham Gold Cups and Tingle Creeks."

Kauto Star has been a remarkable servant to connections and the best chaser seen in Britain for many years.

His list of achievements include becoming the first horse to regain the Cheltenham Gold Cup crown.

Long live the King

Long live the King
I'll miss beautiful Kauto! :(
And I say that as a 100% dyed-in-the-wool Dessie fangirl.

"So I fear I have grown out of love with the sports that beguiled me in my adolescence. Only jump racing remains, and probably only because the administrators are too incompetent to know how to change it. They experiment with Atomic Kitten concerts after race meetings and bang on about the need for a new "narrative" in racing, but it never comes to anything. Thank God."

Should add that I already have a Skybet account with money in it so I didn't need to deposit the £15

Been given a hot tip by my brother, who has been told to back these heavily tomorrow.

Ascot 3:10

Ace high to win, Alfie spinner each way.

I'll be backing them both bigtime.

Fancied Ace High to have a good run myself actually, just wondering what's the source of the tip, is it usually reliable?

My dad!

He's been following horse racing for around 35 years, been in numerous syndicates etc. I'm not a huge betting man, so when he does gve me a tip, I usually back it big, so I'm expecting a nice return on this race today. He reckons Ace High cant lose.

That said, it is horse racing!

Its expired now. It originated on Football365. Nice little scheme though.

Breeders Cup is on again tonight...French Filly Flotilla won at a great price last night. Looks a super prospect.

£50 to win on Ace High, £25 each way on Alfie Spinner, come on.

Well that turned out badly all round, Ace High looked like he had never seen a fence before, ran straight through 2 and pulled up, very odd.

I had Alfie Spinner come in each way, £62.50, whih left me £37.50 down overall.

Plumped for Kalellshan later on, looked good in the morning but drifted a little bit, still very well fancied though, was looking very good for around £400 for me until the horse decided to become a bucking bronco and threw the rider out of the blue.

Bad day at the races. :(

I'm in full jumps mode now but thought I'd stay up for the Melbourne Cup. I like last year's winner Dunaden and think he'll get placed at least. Not a great draw and he is topweight but if anything it looks like he's improved a bit.

Mount Athos for me, though the bit of rain there today might suit Galileo's Choice, will have a wee bit on both.

Had another tip today, Myboyalfie, 3:45 at Doncaster.

14/1,form in the last 6 of 113211

Eachway bet looks good.

Tried his best, outshone on the day, glad I didnt go mad on that one. Best day at the races for many a year for me :)

Fingal Bay beaten by Dynaste in the opener.

A well run race going by the radio commentary i heard.

Kid Cassidy's the favourite in the 13:50.

They went no clip in the opener and Fingal Bay didn't settle that well. He needs further and a stronger pace. Still think he's a player at the Festival as the RSA is a grinder's race. Kid Cassidy is being laid out for a plot on a flat track. One to keep an eye on.

I'm on Al Ferof in the Paddy Power tomorrow. The second season chasers this year look a very good bunch and I think there are a number who look well handicapped for this. Al Ferof was a tad disappointing last year but he's been crying out for a big field and a fast pace race to get his teeth into ever since he won the Supreme Novices at the Festival in 2011 (one or two horse have come out of that race and done OK:cool:) He looks very solid at around 8/1 but Grands Crus will be hard to be beat it has to be said. His form has also been franked recently and he's a worthy favourite.

Well done Nearco, Al Ferof looked like a winner two or three fences from home.

Teaforthree and latterly Hunt Ball [both EW] leave me in the red for the day alas. Hunt Ball will reward me in the future however, of that i am sure.

Hunt Ball hated the ground as did a lot of them.

Some performance from the winner, hope Nicholls aims him at the Gold Cup.

Two cracking races at Haydock and Ascot today that will give big pointers to the King George next month. I like Captain Chris at Ascot getting weight from Finian's Rainbow first time out (although I have backed the latter for the King George) and also Silviniaco Conti up at Haydock who is just a better jumper than Long Run, especially on soft ground. Put them in a double.

Just a heads up for Irish tards.......

Theres a documentary on TG4 tonight @ 930pm regarding jockeys and the state of the industry in ireland at the moment. Sounded good when discussed on off the ball the other night.
