Horse racing tips

The Hennessy tomorrow is a terrible competitive race and in truth I could back half a dozen of them. I've settled for Magnanimity and Frisco Depot.

Magnanimity was a decent novice a couple of years ago before a disappointing season in 2011/12. He's plunged down the handicap and there are signs he has picked his form up again. With a claimer on he has no weight and has an each way shout.

Frisco Depot was only 5L behind the mighty Flemenstar at Naas in March and he also looks well in off a low mark. He travelled well at Ascot the other week before unfortunately coming down. If he gets round he has a good chance.

Ah, i can still remember cheering Bobs Worth home at Cheltenham earlier in the year. :)

My gut [a somewhat erratic guide] is telling me to back First Lieutenant EW however.

I know this is off-topic, but have any of you had much success with virtual racing? I gave it a go a few years back and about broke even.

I have a antepost fourfold which would pay for xmas waiting on Bob's Worth so heres hoping. I think he's still value at 4s to be honest, its a shocking hennessy. Wouldn't rule out a big showing from Fruity o Rooney at a big price but I think the class acts will come to the fore. Pity there's not many of them.

Not something i've tired. The only virtual sort i used to go for was the racing game in the arcades. Much preferred that to the coin ones anyway.

His class shone through yesterday.

Are you willing to say how much? I had a similar bet at Cheltenham [Sprinter Sacre, Bob's Worth, Riverside Theatre and Long Run], the wrinkle in that plan being all too obvious.

Big Buck's race a procession as usual.

Yep was a very good performance and all the right horses finished in behind which is good to see from a form perspective. Just over €1400 for a €60 stake, nothing too major but very handy for xmas!

Very nice. He's not a flashy type and there could be more to come. Worthy fav at the moment for the Gold Cup but that could change on Sunday when Sir Des Champs and Flemenstar meet-up.

Sir Des Champs still the one to beat for me, I think he's something special.

He's a nice horse, loves Cheltenham and is in the hands of a master trainer so at this stage if you put a gun to my head and asked me for the Gold Cup winner I would say him. But Flemenstar is a better jumper and has more upside. But he's never travelled over here and isn't as certain to stay.

Bring on Sunday! Flemenstar evs, SDC 7/4.

Not to mention the small matter of Sanctuaire vs Sprinter Sacre on Saturday  (Would not be surprised to see Sanctuaire come out on top but I'm in the minority.)

I'm going. Excited.

Also Captain Conan vs Overturn on the same card.

If Sanctuaire is ever going to beat Sprinter Sacre Sandown is the place for it. A nice flat track that he is proven on.

Enjoy man wish I was going. Yep its Saturday or never for Sanctuaire, visually his two performances at Sandown last season were immense. Overturn will eat Captain Conan alive on decent ground, softer conditions might just level the playing field a bit I feel.

Just back from Sandown. Watching Sprinter Sacre jump those fences was as much a privilege as being at Old Trafford for Cantona at his peak.

By the way, what did you all think of Long Run's win in the King George? Gutsy to be sure, however a couple of times his jumping was asking for trouble.

This year's Gold Gup was such a disappointment though.

It was gutsy but he just outstayed a horse who used all his energy up getting into contention. I think he has very little chance of reclaiming his Gold Cup crown.

Might be the best Jumps horse I've ever seen, which is saying something given what Kauto Star achieved.

He's not one to oppose in the Queen Mother but Henderson could have another top notch two miler in Simonsig who looks nailed on for the Arkle.

3:35 @Warwick - Bradley

Drifted to 7/1 this morning, was 5s yesterday. I thought this horse and Pete the feat would run each other close, the betting seems to differ anyone else got thoughts on this one?

Even with the Olympics and other more high profile races last year, Sprinter Sacre's win at Cheltenham remained a memorable moment in its own right, or at least it did for me.

I am so excited. This break cos of the weather has been a nightmare.

The headline races are the Gold Cup trial and obviously Sprinter Sacre in the VC but the race I'm most anticipating is the big novice hurdle. Coneygree is a horse of huge promise with a fantastic attitude. A proper galloper who reminds me a bit of Overturn because of his boundless enthusiasm. At this stage he's my biggest ante-post bet of the Festival in the Albert Bartlett. He's not favourite tomorrow because the 2m5f trip will suit The New One more. This horse has been described by Twiston-Davies as possibly his best ever (some claim considering Imperial Commander runs on the same card) but I'm not wholly convinced by him over hurdles. I think a top class rival may find him out as he looks more a chaser. Anyway, Coneygree is a bet at around 5/2.

My other bet tomorrow will be Reve de Sivola in the Cleeve Hurdle over three miles at 3.35. He's in good form, loves the track and handles soft ground. The favourite is Oscar Whisky who is top class at two and a half miles but I don't think he'll stay.

Elsewhere Sprinter Sacre is just a horse to savour and enjoy.

Agree totally on both races Nearco, I can see Coneygree really getting The New Ones jumping (which has been suspect) under pressure. Really fancy Johns Spirit in the 12.40 and he'll be my biggest bet of the day. Wouldn't be surprised to see Oscars Well turn over Avrika Ligeonnaire over here.

Races between these two are a bit stressful to watch. I have the Mullins horse for the Arkle but not with much confidence since Simonsig started fencing. Oscar's Well I really fancy for the Jewson as two and half miles on decent ground might be his optimum distance so I don't want him chinning AL in case it gets Jess thinking of taking Simonsig on.

Mout Benbulben is worth a small wager in the 2.15 This horse has a proper engine but his jumping has let him down until his last race where he was second to today's fav. That was over 2 miles though and the longer trip today will suit.

Massive days racing on both sides of the Irish Sea today.

Flemenstar takes on Sir Des Champs again and I favour the former even though he will likely be another Florida Pearl or One Man - top class chasers who didn't stay the Gold Cup trip.

Hoping for a good run from Boston Bob in the Moriarty at 2.45. Have him at 10s for the RSA and that race looks weak this year.

Only actual bet today is My Tent or Yours in the big handicap hurdle at 3.35
Got double figure prices about him for the Supreme next month and although he's only 5/1 for this afternoon's contest he looks a quality animal and I cannot believe he'll be out of the places. Same connections had Darlan so it will be some small consolation if they pick this and the Supreme up.

What a days racing, no bets for me too many festival clues on offer. As a backer of Cotton Mill for the champion hurdle at fancy prices I'm hoping for a good run in the Betfair despite the soft ground. Let's hope Exeter goes ahead tomorrow, Puffin Billy vs Melodic Rendezvous

Grand National Trial at Haydock today and I'm on Teaforthree at 20s for the big race so hope he runs well today. I like Giles Cross in the trial though, he won the race last year from Neptune Collonges and is only 6lbs higher now. 9/1 is very fair. Other bet is Cue Card in the 3.50 at Ascot. Wrong tactics were employed last time out in the King George and he's the class horse in this race on soft ground.

I was a tad fortunate with the Captain Chris mistake but I think he'd have held on.

He's worth taking on in the Ryanair I agree. I have 10s about First Lieutenant but we'll have to see if he runs.

I've had a really good season but ante-post has been a bit of a mare for Cheltenham. Can't wait though.

I think first lieutenant will turn up in that race if gigginstown get their way. Ya antepost can be a strain, I think we'll be getting nrnb next week which will help.

Patience, I'm sure he will have his say in due course.

For what it's worth I think Long Run is decent value, depending on the going of course.

I can see the first time cheekpieces on Long Run being a disaster, they will light him up, he'll run too free for the first half of the race and have nothing left at the finish. He will have his ground though, it will be soft all week I think.
