Gaming Horizon: Zero Dawn (PS4)

Beat the game yesterday. That final mission though was ridiculously hard, if it wasn't for the shield weaver I would still be playing it in 5 years time.

Great game however, worth the purchase if you have a PS4. Time to get stuck into Persona 5 now.

I’m still only a short way into the story but over the weekend went on a collection spree. Got every collectible, cleaned out all bandit camps and corruption zones

Got all the best weapons and armour and nearly finished the skill tree. Not sure if I should have done that as I don’t think I now have anything left to buy or upgrade for the rest of the game

Or can anyone tell me if more armour and weapon options come available later in the game?

The game is fecking amazing. But I have encountered a number of amusing glitches. Which is funny considering the grief the new mass effect got and I never saw same criticism aimed at Horizon. For example I have seen characters sitting on invisible chairs and people half in the ground etc...I also managed to cheat on the hardest corruption zone. It was against 2 rockbreakers and I simply ran away from them across a stream and they got stuck on the other side allowing me to slowly pick them off. They also briefly glitched into eachother and became one for a while

Can't say I've encountered any of those bugs, it's been incredibly polished for me so far, nothing close to ME:A.

I've been doing the collectibles too, something I usually avoid in open world games due to their annoying placement and difficulty to find, but they don't make them difficult to find in this which I really like, and they help you discover more of the world and quests etc. It's a game I really want 100% completion on.

Good to know. I picked up the shield weave armour myself last night. Just finished that mountain mission where you meet Sylens in the flesh so can't be far from the end now.

I've had a blast working my way steadily through this, picking off the odd side mission and errand. Hunting trials and weapon tutorials can do one though.

The hunting trials are a bitch, I've gotten gold on 11 now I think, haven't done one area and I got fed up of the one to tie down Glinthawks, I'll give it another go after I get the shield weaver.

Ive largely ignored the hunting trials, think I have 5 out of 15

But I will do them for the platinum

I did the same. They're the last thing I've left to do now and have 2 left to do.

Can see myself coming back to this game every few weeks just to run about and smack some robot dinosaurs around.

Yeah that was a pain and so was the trampler one until I realised the mods I had on my ropecaster were killing them off before I could detach the parts required

The stealth ones are even more annoying. Not looking forward to going back to those. Although that said, now I can run silently it should be much easier to get golds.

Enjoying this so far but I can't stand the UI. It breaks the immersion.

Any way of turning the loot markers off? They look awful.

On the main map? No. There is a way to turn the HUD off until you tap the touchpad though, can't remember what it's called now :/

Definitely.

It's a good game so far (about 5 hours in) but absolutely nothing has wowed me.

It's a solid game, nothing special.

Graphics wowed me a bit but not to the extent people banged on about it. The colour pallette seems mental some times. Facial animations aren't great imo.

It's a solid first attempt at this type of game from the company but it isn't exceptional, just hope they can build on it in the next of the series. I haven't even completed it yet and had it since day one, nothing grips me :/ the map being clogged up really winds me up. As do the side quests, they are really all the same without a decent storyline behind them sadly.

I'll complete it, unsure if I'll do a second play through.

No way could I play through this again although the only games I do play through a second time these days are the Dark Souls series.

It's a bit boring in places. Go here - talk to bloke in silly outfit - take out camp nearby.

Pretty lame stuff, especially in the side missions. It's a good game but we've seen it all before.

I am about 9 hours in and I still look forward to getting home, waiting around for the kids and missus to go to bed so i can play this for an hour or so..

Think its a pretty awesome game overall, looks incredible, varied dinobots mean changing approach of how to attack.. I'm enjoying it.

 I swear some people just have absurd expectations for games these days. It's a fecking excellent game.
It was you saying the same stuff in the Mass Effect thread wasn't it i.e. Stop moaning, it's a good game (if it wasn't you apologies sir!)

Yes we do have high expectations when so many people are claiming how "amazing" this is.

It's a solid game but far from amazing.

It's opinions though. I absolutely loved Dark Souls II but many people say it's the worst in the series.

Definitely wasn't me. I find MEA enjoyable enough but can perfectly understand why people don't like it.

Horizon is great though, I can't think of many better games I've played in recent years and that seems to be the opinion of the majority of people.

Yeah 90% of people love it I would say (although I just plucked that out of my arse!)

I will definitely finish it - I enjoy the storyline.

That fecking UI though :wenger:

See, you can laugh all you want, but there's a definite movement towards accepting mediocrity.

For example, argue with this post:

Bang on.

Like when I talk about Witcher 3, some people just like what they like, see what they see, but at the end of the day why should anyone accept flaws? Why is it now so bad to point out that the shiniest games have actually gone backwards?

Horizon is a mix of good ideas, with really good artwork, but ultimately gameplay wise is pretty meh. You can disagree with me all you want, but at the end of the day it does absolutely nothing new and in fact, takes basic gameplay elements backwards.

Redlambs in disliking a new game shocker. :D

It's a good game. It was never supposed to be revolutionary but what it does, it does well. Graphics are stunning, story is pretty interesting and the concept is very good too. Not every game has to do revolutionary or do something new.

It's an excellent exclusive though imo. It is the type of game which could get someone to pick up a ps4. Which is what an exclusive is supposed to do.

Excellent post.

Again, some gamers feel the need to justify their 40 quid purchase to themselves I think. I see it at neoGAF all of the time.

Neogaf is a place for proper fanboys, and idiots who want to argue about just liking a game. Sad thing is, it always leaks on here, especially the buzz words.

But hey, let's just accept mediocrity because of 4K! But wait, let's all go invade the Xbox thread because the Scorpio might be better!

No, some gamers just... enjoy games.

And apparantly those gamers opinions are better than those other gamers.

Argue my points, or just accept we have different opinions. Either way, simplistic cheap shots will get you nowhere.

Oh I forgot - just completed Resi 7 as well and it was excellent apart from the awful boss battles.

Agreed

Was worried starting it off that Zelda might ruin the game a little, but Ive pretty much forgotten about Zelda since I started it

Love the story, the main character and the dino’s are fecking ace. Very enjoyable battles and weapon variation in taking them out

If I had to critiise is that some of the human enemies don’t have good AI and I experienced a few glitches. But it’s a top, top game

It is a very good game, I agree with you.

It's time you dropped that joke.
But it's true. You hardly ever like much about games coming out these days, I get that it's the nostalgy part about the old days playing its role here but we need to accept that it's 2017, a lot of things in games have already been done and plenty of new games are just games that are repeating the same stuff that had been done previously. It doesn't mean people cannot love it.

So far it's an 8/10 for me. Attempts nothing new or refreshing but plays well and has an interesting storyline.

Hopefully it will get better.

I feel this is what it supposed to be. A good game that plays well with a good storyline. They were never advertising this as groundbreaking. TLOU or Uncharted did nothing new either and both are considered excellent too. Witcher 3 hardly did anything new either, it just did a lot of stuff (especially storytelling) much better.

8/10 is a lot for something that just plays well and has an interesting story isn't it?

I think it will for you, Its fair to say the opening few hours are a little slower than the main part of the game

Im trying to think of other games were there is so much enemy variation and were you really are pushed to find certain weaknesses and exploit them

Im sure there is plenty of examples but still, the gameplay felt very fresh to me.
