Gaming Horizon: Zero Dawn (PS4)

Contender for one of the best game worlds in gaming, I'd say.
Take it you've finished, then? How far left do I have? Just reached the start of King Itamen's plot (the little kid who has a King Ptolemy-vibe about him).

As for a contender for best game... I mean, it's one of the better games next-gen has released, but I'd probably have it in the tier below the Witcher 3, GTA V, The Last Of Us, Bloodbourne etc...

Nowhere near finished.

Nowhere near finished.
Cheers. :D

I've got tomorrow off so I can sink some hours into it. A bit of an issue I'm having is with all the work I've got recently I have less time to play consistently, which is a big plus on an open world RPG/action game like this.

Been trying to get my hands on a PS4 Pro and this game bundled. If any of you come across a deal for about £360 and under let me know!! Such a struggle - there are deals but all been sold out for weeks!

Bloody Stormbird taking the piss out of me! It was my last machine left to kill and when i finally took the fecker out, he went down on top of a ledge I can't get onto so cant get the trophy!

Will have to kill another one now to complete that hunters lodge side quest.

My PS4 pro is here!! Do I play this first or finish uncharted 4 and witcher 3 first ??

Played 90 mins of it

It's very impressive. Looks amazing on the pro and my fancy new TV

How great it is to have this and Zelda at the same time. Draw back though I cannot play horizon in bed or on the jacks

You're just not trying hard enough. With the proper will power you could play it on the toilet and in bed at the same time!

I don't recommend playing Zelda on the toilet anyway. Waiting for the right moment to pause and get up left me with numb legs.

After the disappointment of ME:A I decided to go ahead and play it.

I can't believe how good it looks (even on standard PS4) and how smooth everything is, everything is just so responsive in the game, I guess that's what you get when a developer develops for a specific platform.

A refreshingly good game.

Just tying up the loose ends before I complete the main story in this. Unbelievable game. Might even be the best game out for the PS4 right now, and that is counting Uncharted 4 and the other remastered Naughty Dog games.

The visuals are obviously second to none and the combat has pretty much never been boring, apart from a few times when fighting low-level human enemies, but the thing that really surprised me is the story. They've told it fantastically up to this point with how we gradually find out what made the world go to shit. It's just added to the intrigue with each passing mission and now I can't wait to see how it all ends. I just have an incessant need to complete all side quests and errands before I actually finish the game, just in case. Not that delaying the pay-off matters at all, though. Most of the side quests are surprisingly good too.

My only complaint so far is the inventory management being a bit clunky. It should be possible to sort the vendor trash into a separate menu instead of throwing it together with all the other resources. Is there other stuff to buy with all the lenses and hearts and stuff after buying all the armor and weapons? Pretty much my entire resource bag is filled with the stuff.

The running animation is incredible. Why does this have to be an exclusive :(

Just completed it last night. Very good game.

Strengths were absolutely in its graphics, combat and monster diversity. Side quests were very conventional RPG in that most were fetch quests with little character development within them, and whilst the crux of the plot was good - gameplay didn't diversify too much. A lot of the late-game missions were riddled with the main enemy being Deathbringers, and mid-game had a little too much cave-scouring to find more information out.

I done the first cauldron... Hadn't bought a ropecaster so far, made that a pain in the arse, could I feck hit the bugger in its cannister. Think I need some more weapon training.

Also, why the feck are humans so hard on this? It's ridiculous.

I find human enemies really easy in this. I tend to rush them and melee.

The ropecaster is invaluable. In situations where you're outnumbered it comes into its own. You don't have to be particularly accurate with it either.

My playing time is limited to weekends atm so I think I've still got a fair bit to go.

I keep forgetting to use the ropecaster even though I have it equipped.

One thing I did notice whilst I played was that the game wasn't 'that long'. HowLongToBeat.com has the main quest down for 19 hours, which I think is honestly about right.

Hmm, I hate the "night" in this, everything just turns fecking green pretty much. I went into photo mode and looked at it in "Vibrant" and it looked a billion times better.

It's rather difficult, isn't it? I find myself occasionally switching difficulty level to easy because I cannot get through the fights. I think I should not be buying Nioh which is supposed to be way more difficult.

I am only slightly after Revenge of the Nora and approaching Seeker at the Gates. In terms of story development it's probably the early beginning but I have not had much time and I had to share it with Zelda.

its a hell of a game.

thought I might struggle with it following zelda. but not at all

The combat is a lot of fun, and the story and world are terrific

if I need to point out a negative Some of the voice acting from a few characters and lip syncing is a bit shit at times

I completed the main game the other day, absolutely loved it, so now I'm just doing a clean-up for the platinum. Unlike most open world games, I actually want to do all of the things needed. The collectibles were fun and interesting. I think the "less is more" approach worked really well in this game.

Exploration and combat stayed fun and interesting, I even tried switching up my loadouts, just to push myself and find new strategies seeing I was levelling up faster than the game's natural progression. Knocking off parts, inflicting statuses, the considerations of robot hunting are very well-implemented.

The world of this game is far more interesting than I ever would have guessed. I love the backstory, reading all the lore of the old world and the current state earth, even those data/program logs that when you first read then seem like a bunch of techy gobbledy gook but after you complete the story you see that they make sense. I loved how the big story beats revealed more through the well executed narrative. It is just so well paced and crafted. I was always anxious to see what is coming next, because the lore, the mysteries, the build up, everything story wise is so intriguing. It is proper legit good Sci-Fi with plenty of interesting unique characters too. I hope there's more where this came from Guerrilla have struck gold with this change in direction.

also...
Ted Faro, what a fecking colossal pillock that man is!

The only thing I really don't like are the stealth mechanics with camps. They're insanely unforgiving and it's just not worth attempting to stealth to the alarm.

I've been trying to get into Cauldron Zeta for ages. Those three Stalkers guarding it keep fecking me up, plus the battle tends to attract nearby Sawtooths.

Beat my first Thunderjaw today, really intense fight. Most certainly fought it in the least efficient method possible. Tried to set it on fire first, and then went for the disc launchers when possible. Otherwise ran around in circles trying not to get trampled on or fried by it's lasers. Has anyone else had a better time with these things??

I slingshot them with sticky bombs.

Ice bombs are a great tactic to use too, you deal double damage whilst the machine is in frozen status.

Freeze bombs and then sticky bombs. Down in 10 seconds.

That simple?? I've got the sticky bombs with my sling but how do I get the freeze bombs??
Sling will give you access to freeze bombs. Blast slings are the one with sticky bombs. Check the sling before buying to see if it has freeze bomb ammo.

Fair enough. I only bought the expensive one, but will get a basic one too. Blast sling is immense though, so helpful when taking down the elite human enemies.
