Gaming Horizon: Zero Dawn (PS4)

Yup, I only realised you could pick up the big dino's (deathmaw?) gun when you knock it off.

Also the ropecaster is a brilliant weapon too. Thats an original idea I would have thought. But maybe not?

Thunderjaw you heathen.

[Partridge voice]Stop getting robot dinosaurs wrong! [/Partridge voice]

Just finished this, very good game overall.

I think what it does well is the variation in the enemies and the tools given to take them down, hitting weak points is also quite fun and there aren't really any 'arrow sponge' enemies, well last deathbringer could class as one I guess.. Oh, and overriding a thunderjaw is fun.. Can't say many games give you that option!

Very rarely am I in awe of an enemy and at how fecking intimidating they are, especially after playing the Dark souls Trilogy & still need to finish bloodborne!
My first encounter with a thunderjaw had me running in the opposite direction, my second encounter.. Fighting two ravagers in quite a hilly/rocky area and the fecker jumps out at me and typically, I'm quite jumpy and dropped my controller.. -.- (Been playing PUBG with headphones.. I jump nearly every time I shoot my weapon by accident / in a red zone even when I know I'm in a redzone!)

Gameplay is fun, visuals are probably the best for a console game and certainly one of the best out there currently. Story is pretty damn good too IMO, I did like the ending and some of the characters were great. Sylens comes to mind.

I'd be all for a sequel,
9/10 for me!

Up next NIOH.

The way you have to aim at certain bits sometimes very small bits of the dino’s,

Im not sure they could have had the arrow aiming any differently. I find it very good
Yeah I agree with this. I think it'd would've been almost impossible to have fights like that if the arrow physics were "correct". The way it's done makes the game more fun for me so I'm willing to suspend belief in this case.

Just started this today and I'm loving it so far only hit to the part where she's grown up but looking forward to getting back on it.

When people talk about Platinum, is that achieving all of the trophies?

I wrapped all of that up yesterday, completed all of the hunting trials and the weapon tutorials but I'm still only at 94%.

Any ideas as to what else I might be missing? All the quests and things are done and I've discovered all the areas.

I didn't buy every outfit and haven't found all of the data points yet. Could those two things account for 6%?

Nope, only what's on the completion list page counts, so you are missing something there. Data points aren't counted, but metal flowers, banuk figures etc are.

You need all shadow weapons and outfits too.

Cheers!

Will get the rest of the shadow outfits so. Have all the collectable stuff so I wonder what else I've missed?

Oh well, any excuse to wander about bashing robots together. Especially now with these nice Lodge weapons!

@diarm Have you knocked over all of the Training dummies around the Nora Lands? there's 23 of them in there there's a bunch outside alloy/Rost's house and one or two in each settlement

Yeah I did that one last. Last two took me forever and it turns out they were in one of the first places I ever visited!

Have the All Trophies trophy and all of the collectables. I'm beginning to think I might have missed a side quest or two. I've done 21 of those and 13 errands?

yep you've missed a side quest and 1 or 2 errands.

they don't count, again, it's only what's on the completion screen that counts.

One that caught me out was that I'd swore i'd killed every type of machine and thought one of the trophies had glitched. turned out I hadnt killed a broadhead yet so that might count on the stats.

I hadn't played this game for a week or so. Spent the afternoon doing some story and it really is a quality game.

The boss battles are absolutely amazing.

One gripe though, all the merchants sell exactly the same weapons and armour. I kind of wish you could only get super rare items in one place.

Done!

I'd missed a couple in the Pitchcliff region in the middle of the map but they weren't much hassle once I managed to find them! I'll miss this but excited to start TLOU now!

Nice! I would give anything to be able to experience that fresh again. My personal GOAT game.

Wrapping this up today. Almost got the plat
All done earlier

Feel pretty spoilt having played Zelda and this in the space of a month. Zelda for me goes down as one of the best of all time and this goes just a level below as my favourite PS4 game so far. Great game

Alright Flagg. Well done getting the platinum. I'd fetch your blue peter badge for you.

But seriously how long did it take for you to complete? I'm near the end of Yakuza. But fancy going for a western open world game next. I got Nier and Persona 5 after that as well as Mass Effect. But I'm gonna wait a few weeks for ME, when they release a few more patches for it.

Took 49 hrs to be precise. Not sure where I get the time

Make sure you guys have signed up for playstation newsletters and receive those emails as you get a exclusive theme if you platinum this game.

Controversial, but I enjoyed it way more than TLOU. I still have bloodborne to go through which I'll probably enjoy more, but Horizon has been my favourite PS4 game I've gone through so far. Though I haven't played a whole bunch tbf, it just felt like a proper console game.

I have properly progressed with the story yesterday, wow I thought it was good before but it just keeps getting better. I think I am going to finish this at some point over the next two weeks.

I have brought difficulty down to Easy for a while, once you start encountering robots after robots while your character is still stuck at a relatively low level, you might be out of luck quickly. Now that I have bumped my level up I am going back to Medium.

Can't say I ever had to go down to easy. The key is definitely to get shadow weapons and armor as early as possible to open up your combat styles. That said I haven't done the last mission yet.

To be fair I wouldn't put it above TLOU, I suppose I consider that a PS3 game. I would have that in the level above as one of my all time favourites

I've still barely touched this  Going back to it today, hopefully I sort of remember the controls a bit. Got a couple days to burn till payday so I'll probably complete it.

I got all trophies earlier, took 47 hours. Fantastic game all in all.

Shield Weaver armor did make the last few missions and high level camps, corrupted zones a bit too easy though. If I ever play it again I won't use it.

I had done all activities and side quests before getttig the armor, so I only used it for the final mission, it was strange they put it in the game

Finished this. Brilliant game, still pretty early in the year but I can't see any other game being my favourite game this year.

On the story, in the OP I said it looked a bit bleh from the trailers but it didn't turn out that way. Definitely held my interest and was well acted too.

Especially Lance Reddick. Very interested to see where they go with the sequel/dlc since it seems Sylens is going to control Hades now. Also, with Aloy finding the globe at the end, I assume that's a sign she's going to travel to other parts of the world.

Anyway, awesome game and can't wait for Robot Dinosaur Apocalypse 2.

Sylens is as good a video game character as I've ever seen.

Helps that Reddick has such an amazing and distinctive voice but he was very well written too

The sequel should be all about him

I have never had an issue with putting my hands up and admitting I was wrong but...

What has happened?! I am in love with this game all of a sudden. It's just so moreish.

Love the story as well now I have given it more of a chance.

I keep going back to it even though I'm finished and have killed every possible machine in every possible way a hundred times over!

Just bought the Witcher 3 today though. I suspect that might help me move on!

I've started playing this a couple of days ago. Bit of a slow start and coming off The Last of Us and Left Behind it was hard for me to care for the characters initially. Now that I've started really getting to grips with the gameplay and progressed a bit further into the story, it's pretty good. I haven't even got out of the Embrace yet, so I'm excited to see what happens when it opens up a bit.

Gets much better when you leave that place. I found the early sections quite slow and cut scene heavy.

It's simplistic, the story is more than a little obvious, but something just works. I think playing it at the same time as an epic goat contender like Zelda actually made me appreciate it's different pace and just shear dumb fun.

I liked it, far more than a lot of recent gen games. I feel like I should dislike a lot of it but I guess it really is greater than the sum of it's parts. I really do look forward to seeing what they do next.

Finally got platinum for it last night, just 1 errand or side to complete for 100% completion; absolutely loved it. What game to play next, finish uncharted 4, rotr, infinite warfare, titanfall 2, bit of cod4 mp or do i finally buy wildlands?
Nier Automata!

Yeah this is about right. I still adore BOTW and haven't finished it - I am sipping on it like a fine wine.

This really does look beautiful on the Pro as well.

No idea why it took me so long to get this, but wow what a game. I've just done a couple of missions after reaching Miridian at level 22 and am having a blast exploring the world. Some of the machines are terrifying! I was expecting some crappy AI easy-to-dodge fodder but feck I've been obliterated a fair number of times and that's only on normal  Loving the stealth as well which is also surprising as usually I find it poorly done in games like these. Also this surely has raised the bar in terms of game environments / worlds, exceptional... Coming from Mass Effect Andromeda to this is one hell of a step up.

Since getting my PS with this game and finishing it, I've gone on to play TLOU, The Witcher 3 and Fallout 4. Obviously there are loads of great things about HZD but it seems to me that what really sets it apart from those games is the way she moves and responds to your controls.

Everything else feels kind of clunky or something whereas Aloy just moves so naturally and intuitively.
