Gaming Horizon: Zero Dawn (PS4)

Since getting my PS with this game and finishing it, I've gone on to play TLOU, The Witcher 3 and Fallout 4. Obviously there are loads of great things about HZD but it seems to me that what really sets it apart from those games is the way she moves and responds to your controls.

Everything else feels kind of clunky or something whereas Aloy just moves so naturally and intuitively.
Spot the odd one out.

My favourite game on the PS4, beyond a doubt. I recommend anyone to play it on the hardest mode. I think the mechanics work quite well on that one.

The new DLC came out for this a few days ago. Yet to play it, but it still looks exceptionally pretty:

I finished the DLC on Sunday. It's a really good addition to the game, well worth the money imo

Started the whole game again.

It's so gorgeous, it makes me wish I had a PS Pro to experience the full scale of it.

So I brought the game months ago and still haven't opened it. Am I mental..

DLC was great, some of the best side quests I've seen in a while.
Hopefully a sequels in the works.

I started it, got probably like 10% in, it seems fecking massive tbh, but then things came up and I left it, never felt the urge to go back yet, but it's there somewhere. Just think I'm waiting for the time to start fresh again.

If TW3 was never released, this would be held to a much higher regard. Not that it isn’t already. Regardless though, it’s a fantactic game and the sequel will be a huge deal when announced.

Its deceptive, the map is large but there isnt really a massive amount to do in it.

Its no Red Dead Redemption thats for sure.

There definitely will be a sequel. Sony said they have plans for it to be their next big franchise like Uncharted.

Brillant, that's a game I'll preorder without hesitation. As long as Guerilla don't fall down the lootbox hole.

Funnily enough, lootboxes are actually in the game already.

You can buy gamblers boxes from traders that could have good stuff or crap like rocks.

Nothing wrong with that though because no microtransactions or real money in-game currency.

Oh yeah, haha forgot about them.

Yeah they were a fun little gimmick.

Didn't buy the DLC yet but the main game was absolutely brilliant, my GOTY of 2017 so far.

I'll definitely try to get the DLC once I can.

What's the cheapest it can be bought at the minute?

EDIT - Shopto are doing a preorder for the complete edition with the DLC for £32.86

https://www.shopto.net/video-games/ps4/PS4HO04-horizon-zero-dawn-complete-edition

That'll do.
Yeap just saw that, not a bad deal at all.

Yeah would certainly recommend it, I'm honestly tempted to newgame+ it but have so much too play at the moment.

Only problem is I'm short of money at the moment to buy anything. Once I can I'll get it.

So eager to return to this fantastic world again.

My god those gifs are fecking incredible. That's 4K on the Pro, right? I'm playing on a slim and it's still phenomenal but that's gorgeous on another level. Did the DLC and patch improve the visuals all over too?

Make sure you start with the commitment of finishing it. It's breathtaking. Sincerely one of the best games I've played. It's probably my favorite since Red Dead Redemption.

Comfortably my GotY - downloading the expansion now. Reviews are excellent as well.

Have to say the expansion is absolutely brilliant so far. The environment with the snow, weather changing and auroras are just magical. Honestly if we see a better looking game on the PS4 this gen I'd be surprised (perhaps only TLOU2 will have a chance). New machines are also great and there's plenty more loot / weapons / outfits to deck out. Still nothing to spend shards on mind but who cares. Can only urge anyone who played and enjoyed the main game to pick this up and play - easily worth 15 quid.

I've given this another proper go the last few weeks, after not really getting that far several months ago. It's much better than I initially gave it credit for. I thought it was fairly bland at first but now I'm deep into it, level 30 and I feel like I'm strategically taking down large robots with all of the tools available to me. It's actually incredibly exhilarating.

What still continues to surprise me is how brilliantly crafted this game is. If you look at CD Projekt Red, those guys used all of their experience from developing The Witcher 1 and 2 to craft their masterpiece The Wild Hunt. Guerrilla had no such experience, yet this feels like an incredibly accomplished open worlder. Their achievement in technical design can't be overstated and the world design is stunning as well. Not to mention the creativity that went into the robot dinosaurs. How the hell did they pull it off? Releasing this studio from their Killzone shackles may well have been one of Sony's best decisions.

Yeah, @Ainu. The most impressive thing of the game was the ripples the game made for Guerilla’s very first open world RPG. Still a bit to improve on - side quests, character development etc. but the world, the combat and the equipment system is all very polished. Graphically it’s so bloody gorgeous too.

Finished the DLC a few days ago. It's great. Doesn't do a whole lot different from the main game but there is cool new weapons, advanced bows and outfits and some new bastard hard machines. Really liked what the did with the animations for the talking head scenes too.

One of the few criticisms from the base game was they could be a bit lifeless but there's lot of new animations, face and body, that make those scenes stand out a little more.

Also, this game has the best snow ever. Odd thing to point out but it's really nice!

Had a chance to buy this for like 15 quid when it was on sale on ps store and never bought it :(

The detail in this game is incredible. They actually leave the tiniest scar above her eye from where the rock hit her as a kid and also a scar on the neck from where the guy was pressing the knife against her throat.

Love stuff like that.

Seriously, photo mode in this is like a mini-game.

And this is on a normal PS4. The Pro must make it look eye-meltingly good.
