Gaming Horizon: Zero Dawn (PS4)

After not getting this game for Christmas, I've ordered it online and it will arrive on the 2nd.

Just as I go back to work.

Okay, so having played for a few hours

I'm really enjoying it. The voice acting is obviously a bit poor, but I guess we're all a bit spoiled these days. Likewise the side quests seem really low quality... go there, do this, find that. I didn't expect the game to be so Laura Crofty either, I feel like those are the only games I play these days.

Aside from that, absolutely loving it. It's a bit easy to just keep dodging out the way all the time of the beasties, although not sure what else there is game play wise.

Is there any point in hunting boar or turkeys or foxes?

Good stuff

I'm playing on hard but feel like I should be playing on harder

I found it takes a few hours to really get going.

Also hunting the wildlife is mainly useful for crafting items that increase how much ammo you can carry so pretty useful.

You poor soul. You're still in the tutorial phase basically.

Yeah like many great OWG's you really need to give it a good few hours until it properly opens up and new stuff becomes available.

@rcoobc you’re going to shit a brick when you encounter a Rockbreaker.
Just got past the heartmother bit last night where you do the proving and kill a load of guys and all your friends die and then get attacked by a big robot spider.

So good.

Im not sure what my main quest is now, so i guess ive got a fair bit of open worldness to go before thr next bit.

Do the monsters level up with aloy?

Ive found the trip trap a bit annoying. Half the time they run right through it

So what kinda game is this? RPG? Is it worth getting?

Its got a few RPG Elements but its got most in common with an action game/3rd person shooter. Absolutely, Game of the Year for me and only Breath of the Wild and maybe Resi VR come close. Easily this years standout PS4 exclusive in a year where PS had all the good exclusives.

Wow that sounds fabulous, so kinda Mass Effect kinda game?

I might wait for it to come on sale on the PS store then.

Probably controls more like the new Tomb Raider reboots and Uncharted then Mass Effect but yeah its like Guerilla Games sat down and took the best features from everygame and rolled it into one package that works.

Do all the side missions and errands. It will level up your character, you will definitely need it.

@rcoobc I'm very jealous of your next 30 hours of gameplay!

You're still very much inside the training area. Once you start modding weapons, levelling up skills and strengths, meeting real machines and getting out into the real world you're going to have so much fun!

Do the side missions (they get much better as you progress), spend time to interact with the characters and hunt for as many skins, bones, meats and machine parts as you can.

The payoff will be great. You haven't even started yet!

It was on sale on ps store a few days ago unfortunately.

Get the complete edition fron tesco or amazon from £32 and then sell it when finished. Should get most of it back

Hmm not a bad idea!

Thanks!

First ~10 hrs were meh but after that it is a great game. I loved it so much that I managed to finish it 100% which is only the 2nd game (other one is Witcher 3) I managed to do it :)

A good few hours into The Frozen Wilds now, I can safely say this is a worthwile addition. Visually they seem to have managed the impossible and improved upon the already ridiculous looking base game. The lighting and snow effects are stunning, especially when you get the heaviest snowfall combined with strong winds. Virtual winter has never looked better.

The rest is excellent as well. The new robots are terrifying (I'm glad I went into this with my endgame Aloy), the Banuk are a fascinating tribe and side quests seem a little more fleshed out. A lot of effort went into it, as far as DLC goes it doesn't get much better than this.

Bit unsure about what i should be doing. Should i just ignore not robots i come across

I know it's been said a few times already in this thread, but... Fireclaw. Feck me. That was the single hardest fight in the entire game. Thunderjaws and Stormbirds are a walk in the park compared to this relentless bastard.

And then you get a quest to go and kill 5 more.

You probably need to make your way across to meridian right now. Do the side quests along the way if you want.

Have you reached the first hunting grounds yet?

If not I found that a good practise ground for sharpening up combat skills before going out into the big bad world.

It'll seem very hard to match those times at first but keep at it and you'll be glad you did later.

If you go to the in-game menu you'll have Notebook on the far right. One of the sub menus here lists your completed activities as well as a global completion percentage.

Cheers.

Found the combat tough at the start but once I got to grips with it, i'm jumping rolling flying all over the place!

Just about to do the proving, graphics are amazing! Story is superb, and gameplay is fun so far.

I had zero interest in this when it was announced and zero when it was released.

Cant believe how good it is.

I know comfortably beat things like shell walkers and saw tooths and those fire throwers if they only have a couple of friends. But when they have two.or three of them together, then its a bit hard

Had you seen any game play footage of it before it was released?

On paper it's the kinda game I don't care for, but so far it's fabulous.
