I'm sure that he will improve after playing some matches, but with performances like this one he doesn't deserve a second game in a row. I'd give him another chance against Feyenoord this week, as I think EL and the cup could be a good way to gain some form. But he can't start the next league game after this.

So if he has an absolute blinder against Feyenoord you'd then bench him for Watford?

Seems a little fazed by the speed and occasion.

Maybe now we know why Mourinho is choosing Mata and Rooney over him at the moment. Seems to need some time to settle.

He had, for Armenia. Should not have started the game.

He had no injury. He was recalled just in case. He had a full week to prepair for his starting debut. And he shat himself. Weak player, no heart.

Compare to Valencia who had to travel yesterday...

 yeah, if you think so.

He was substituted at half time. Cost Mourinho his first game against Pep.

I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't play for a long time... Lingard too.

Let's hope Mourinho doesn't over-react as much as this. He won't. 'Weak player, no heart'. Crazy stuff. A bit short of fitness, yes. Mistake to start him, yes. But give him a chance ffs.

He was fan-fecking tactic for Dortmund last season. Where did he go.

He had a coach there who put ultimate trust into him. Also he played within a well oiled machine that made it easy for him to flourish.
Still, he always appeared as mirror of the actual team performance. When things are going well, he shines. When things are going down the drain, he goes into hiding.
He didn't do jack in the games against us last season, and he activated his stealth mode in last years game against Pool, when Dortmund decided to give the game away.
I wouldn't write him off, but don't expect him to be the one who pulls your team out of the gutter

Some of these posts ffs. I think 90% of people wanted him to start this game after his performance against Hull. Thought he had a good cameo vs Southampton as well.

I think we've rushed him back. If he's fit he should be given Feyenoord to impress, I'm confident he'll come good but I guess we'll have to bear Kagawa comparisons in the mean time.

I don't think he does very well in bug games with a lot of pressure. He couldn't do anything right today.

Looked off the pace today.

Hopefully it's a case of taking time to settle rather than him struggling generally with the pace of the PL.

It was stupid of Mourinho to rush him into the game when it was clear that he was injured

He was good against Tottenham who were at home and they are the most high pressing team in the league. This is a serious case of mis-management by Mourinho.

Hope the shocker he had was just lack of fitness , and debut nerves.

I think that's what it was.
It was a huge game. Jose vs Pep. Effectively a top of the table clash.
To make a debut under such conditions would've been daunting for most.

Atleast he tried to attack unlike Lingard who looked like a Sunday league player

I'm guessing it's the same thing. I'm sure he would kick on from here!

How was hit clear he was injured? He ran with the ball no trouble at all. Yes he looked off the pace and daunted by the occasion, but injured no sorry not at all.
He's an excellent player and will only improve if he's given chances. I've no doubt in his ability, but it'll take time & he'll have poor games. Hopefully Jose isn't as 'stupid' as you're making out. Top class manager who knows how to motive his teams & very successful. How's your managerial career going by the way?

I'm allowed to critisice a manager right? Even Mourinho said he got it wrong

Debut? He's already made his debut. To be given his first start, a player of his ability, he should have performed better. Wish people would stop blaming everyone else for how he played. Fantastic player who let himself and the side down today. As did many others. But what a great game.

Calling Jose stupid for a player not performing? Very disrespectful & not at all logical. Just like you knowing a player deemed fit by medical experts, was in fact injured in your expert opinion.

He was out for 7-10 days and was rushed back to play the game

Come on, he wasn't injured. We had no other injuries, it makes no sense to play the only injured player. And to start him for the first time, too. It's silly. He didn't seem injured either. He seemed disinterested.

Has to get used to the pace? :wenger:

[x] played several years in Bundesliga, a very intense and pressing obsessed league
[x] played three years at Dortmund, one of the quickest teams in Europe
[x] played two years under Klopp, one of the biggest names in Europe when it comes to fast paced football
[x] played like ten games against a Guardiola team that was several steps ahead of the current City in terms of development into a Pep team.
