Nice to see the Rooney crowd jumping on the perceived threat to his position.

Mkhitaryan was crap today but the idea that he didn't try or wasn't interested is seriously stupid.

Looked really off the pace. He never got to the tempo of the game. Disappointing.

Over the top here, it's tough because its the derby and we lost it in that first 40 but I don't think much can be read into his performance.

He was poor, but I still think he was trying the right things. If his touch had of been better or his head had of been in it, then I'm sure it would be a different story.

Hope he starts the next game to show what he can do, today's showing doesn't make him a liability in the big games, or incapable of playing on the right, that's knee jerk.

Though I would rather him in the middle all day long.

They were in Martial and Mata threads last few weeks, and now when they are dropped they've found a new victim. Many of them are bigger fans of Rooney than all of our other players combined, or even the club itself. As long as Rooney is playing everything is great.

Has to get used to the pace? :wenger:

[x] played several years in Bundesliga, a very intense and pressing obsessed league
[x] played three years at Dortmund, one of the quickest teams in Europe
[x] played two years under Klopp, one of the biggest names in Europe when it comes to fast paced football
[x] played like ten games against a Guardiola team that was several steps ahead of the current City in terms of development into a Pep team.
This is a good point. It's strange how poor he performed today considering that he should be used to it

I hope he learns from this, sort of like Vidic and Evra back in the day. He wanted too much time on the ball and lacked intensity today.

Everyone should just ignore @nick2004 posts about players who are competition to his hero Rooney, he can't wait for any of Mata, Ibra, Mkhi or Martial to have poor game just so he can use it as an argument to praise Rooney.

He was poor today, but then again, it was a bizzare decision to give him his first start today, considering he hasn't started any game for us & he picked up a knock on international duty. Wonder what Jose was thinking.

It wasn't a bizarre decision. He was one of our most rested players, and he had played against Pep in Germany last year and knew what to expect.

It was unexpected that he was shit in the game.

I'm not gonna be rash and start slating him. It's 4 games into the season. There's 34 left. You need to give some of these players time.

I honestly cringe when people start slagging off Pogba already. He's played 3 matches... and people forget he's still young aswell.

I hope Mkhitaryan is not gonna be another Kagawa. A player who comes in with a good reputation from Dortmund and can't replicate it at United. I think Rooney was partially responsible for Kagawa not hitting the ground running at United. Because Rooney was undroppable, Kagawa was shifted out wide. Mkhitaryan played most of last season as a RW and thats kinda the position I associate him with now. But he is naturally a CAM I think. And as long as Rooney's occupying that position, I fear we won't see the best of him in the Premier League :(

Strange performance, looked massively uncomfortable taking the ball with his back to a defender, losing it countless times.

Refusing to close down their defender in the corner indirectly let to their first goal as well, Rooney was fuming

But all in all one to forget today, the moment that summed his game up was when Pogba beat about 5 players, played it to Miki, and it just smashed off him like a concrete wall, wrecking the move.

Better than Lingard though

Hmmm everyone is saying he shouldn't have started post match. I could have sworn that nearly everyone was enamoured with his cameo vs Hull and were pushing for him to start vs City... So much so that there was a small meltdown when he was taken off for Armenia... But I see zero people saying they wanted him to start but seems like it was too much too soon, instead it was a massive mistake from Mourinho etc etc.

Hindsight is such heavenly bliss.

Yeah i'm one of the most pro rooney posters on here but don't like being aligned with him.

If you don't like my posts, ignore me, don't tag me! :wenger:

Now, we all know that this game was special. Jose vs Pep, first time in England.

Of course, my personal opinion and my hope is that Miki will prove to be a great player for us and that he will get more chances to show that he can help us win the premiership.

But I don't make the decisions. And beyond my personal preferences there is an objective reality. The reality is that Jose isn't happy and I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see Miki for a while.

Based on his sub appearances I thought he deserved his start. He was shockingly bad though today, terrible in fact, worse even, gave us nothing.

Without ever showing something in these games, though.
People shouldn't forget it took Mkhi 2 full seasons and a horse whisperer type of coach to get him on track. So, he's kind of a slow burner

Start him in the Europa game at the no.10 position with RAshford ahead and Martial and whomever. The worst thing Jose can do is make the guy feel isolated and lose confidence. Today was shit, but Jose can't have Miki dwelling on this. Too early in the season to have the confidence plunge. Mourinho must remember why we bought him for him (Jose) and try to get the best out of him. Same thing with Martial.
Play them in their right positions and give them some of the same patience shown to Rooney.

this, his form is up and down like a whore's knickers yet he's undroppable

But you can't simply ignore the fact that he hasn't started any game this season & he picked up a knock recently. It was going to be a high intensity game, that lack of sharpness (mentally & physically) was evident. This was not the game to give him his first start.

Hero to zero in the space of two halves of football..

He just needs to play in behind Zlatan week in week out and he will come good, not alot of chance of it happening thanks to the great undroppable, but I live in hope...

Most of the time, these "injuries" are just mind games, especially if the player starts in the next game. My guess is that Miki wasn't injured either. Otherwise, why start him? We had options because we did not have any other injuries. So, either we don't have a good medical team, or Mourinho is a fool to start an injured player. These explanations seem to me less reasonable than to accept that Miki isn't good enough when it comes to big games. Some players perform well against small teams but not against top teams.

And even under Tuchel he was truely underwhelming in almost all big games. He was a huge flattrack bully last season. It's not surprising at all that he was shit today.

Most rested

If by most rested you mean hasn't started a game all season, then yeah. Not the best circumstances to make your derby debut really is it?

Reminded me of Evra on his debut, totally at sea in such a big game.

He will bounce back and improve, he will certainly need to be sharper on the ball.

Giving Miki and Pogba a pass today....both stilll fitting in with the team.....they had a bad game...no worries...will be much better the next time we play Citeh.
