Hector Herrera

If you stop short of the player you're not actually going to be there to tackle him. Do you have a problem with distances?

Its pretty obvious theres something wrong with his approach hence me mentioning it. Its only 45 mins of football but in that 45 mins he was just closing down for the sake of it, not closing down like he's going to win the ball. Its something you expect from an attacker because they arent too interested in defending.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

Mexican club say they've met with Manchester United regarding Héctor Herrera transfer

Manchester United's summer spending may not be over just yet as links with the Premier League side and Héctor Herrera continue to grow by the day. It started off as small reports in the Mexican press about a week ago and has built from there to being a main story in that country and also getting picked up by the media here.

Now his club, Pachuca, want Manchester United to follow up on their initial interest and make a bid for the player.

Andres Fassi is quoted by Medio Tiempo as saying "There is interest in Manchester that we have been dealing with for a while, they confirmed their interest after Mexico won the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics, but we have not yet received a formal proposal in terms of finances."

Fassi is Pachuca's vice president and it was he who first revealed the interest when he claimed both Manchester United and Liverpool had sent scouts to watch the player in the past, and that interest had built because of his performances for Mexico in the 2012 Olympics.

The vice president also confirmed to Medio Tiempo that Pachuca director Marco Garces has spoken to Manchester United about the situation "They have spoken to us, including Marco Garces who was in Manchester and met with them, but all that has not been made official, we haven't received a formal offer."

Héctor Herrera is currently recovering from an injury he picked up during the Olympics and won't be fit until next month.

Looks like we just enquired about the player. We do that quite often, dont we?
It looks the his club are keen to make it public.. Wouldnt be surprised if we didnt follow up on it...

I get the impression we have a number of options, i would say the shortlist is Dembele,Witsel and Herrera.

Didn't we once agree to sign the spanish midfielder Senna and used him to buy Hargreaves?

Witsel is most likely not on the short list, his price is considerably higher than the other 2. Honestly we'd probably be better off trying to get Dembele than this Mexican lad, at least he has good Prem experience.

Yep thats it, disagree with what I've said having not bothered to watch the match for yourself.

You absolute weapon. I'm not disagreeing with how he performed in that game. I'm disagreeing with your bizarre suggestion that slowing down as you approach an opposition player in possession is somehow a bad thing. A point that everyone else who commented on it found equally bemusing. You've tried to explain yourself. You're still not making any sense. I've been through this sort of shit with you before, so the only possible response is a houllier smilie or I'll still be here three hours later on the verge of throwing my lap-top out the window. Now piss off and have a nice evening.

I think what he's trying to describe is when you see a player going to close a player down but they lack conviction and never actually look like they are going to make the tackle so it just looks like a token gesture so it doesnt look like they are lazy and seems like they are making an effort which you often see from strikers really slowly closing down defenders. I think this is what he means but I could be wrong

Edit: jb(numbers) has already made the point.

I've noticed that with some players - they make a kind of token gesture but stop too far away from the player to limit his options. All they really do is prevent him passing through the space they are physically occupying.

Boss is sitting in front of his PC somewhere shouting "HE'S DEFENDING THE SPACE, YOU MUGS!"

The idea is to win the ball or limit the opposition player from being creative. Slowing down or going in faster for challenges depends on each individual situation. There is no simple rule, it comes naturally with experience by playing.

Back to insulting people eh. Its very easy to understand you were just trying to be cheeky. Either that or you dont understand how closing people down and tackling works, but I'll give you some credit

This is what I mean but with this guy he was visibly slowing down before he got to his man to save some energy. And with him supposedly being a box to box player I was dissappionted because as far as I'm concerned closing down would have been why hes in the team... Unless I've missed some great flair and ability somewhere in his other videos.

Again its just the one game posted on here and I only sat through 45 minutes so if we sign him I hope it was just a bit of a lazy day, but I thought I'd share what I had seen as it seems nobody else can be bothered to watch it. I didnt realise I'd offend Pogue by suggesting that slowing down before you get to the person you are closing down can be a bad thing.

So what is this lad like? He's got even less youtube videos of Buttner? Hopefully this isn't just a post-tournament signing, those don't usually work to well for us...

We could probably get Dembele for that price mind...

I know Rooney didn't have the best game on Monday, but...

Hehe.

Re: the he runs slow debate. This is a comment on a youtube video series (about Mexican candidates for 2014 WC), so obviously not gospel and quite potentially bullshit, but I thought it was kind of relevant.

He is pretty good, he shows a lot of promise thats why i think Man Utd and Liverpool are trying to get him. He was the player of the tournament in the Toulon Tournament. He has great dribbling skills, and one thing that makes him even better is he gives it over 100 percent on the field. Me and my brother call him the fastest slowest person, bcus he looks like he isnt even running and he starts passing people like nothing.

Dunno really since its youtube comments, but take it as you will.

The video (its shit)

Nice assist from him here.

I'm scraping the fecking bottom of the muppet barrel here:lol:, why can't I just go to sleep..

Is he potentially capable of being better than Carrick considering he's young? How old is he?

Continued the game as if nothing happened. Can do it on a cold snowy night in Stoke.

Some of you think this club is run by incompetent fools by some of the remarks.

What type of midfielder is he?

Did some stalking on google and came up with this forum:

The fun starts around page 18 (which I've linked you to), when the first rumors surface

random mexican (I assume) poster: "what they need a box to box that can put on the overalls, yet put in the silky pass, and Herrera offers just that. Not just because he's mexican, but just because he totally fits the profile of what they need desperately.

Also unlike chicharo, he can actually ball and he doesn't rely so much on his speed or have to worry about playing to just one strength because hes pretty complete."

Some not as enthuiastic, but mostly very positive comments.
