Hector Herrera

If he is a tidy midfielder who likes a tackle and shows some grit in a match I am happy.

When was the last time you signed an actual central midfielder?

Carrick in 2006? Anderson wasn't really one when he signed in 2007...

Hargreaves in 2007 - just after signing Anderson IIRC.

Since then we've come close with Jones and Kagawa arguably being midfielders (rather than a defender and a number 10) - while Powell is also a number 10 but will be a midfielder as he gets older and develops.

Have an update from a few of my old mexican players via facebook, He is much admired by the Pachuca faithful it seems, he is a box to box type more than a destroyer from what I gather. I personally havent seen much of him at all but they seem to like him. The United story is making the rounds over there and its supposed to be valid.

I like that you have "Mexican sources", Rams. It adds to your legend.

I have posted two clips on the previous page and you people are still speculating as to how good he is/what kind of a player he is. Start watching!

I was just about to watch them, until I was reminded why I didn't in the first place....

An hour and a half?! I might watch it before going to bed.

Mail reporting we are interested in signing this lad.

I'm surprised you lot haven't clocked on to how these things work yet.

A rumour is invented on twitter. The next day Goal.com and Caughtoffside report more on the story. The following day either the Mirror or the Mail report It as an exclusive. Whether or not the initial twitter rumour beared any foundation in reality is wholly irrelevant to the above sequence of events; basically, without exception, if some clonk makes something up on twitter, you can guarantee that the Daily Mail or the Mirror will be revealing the big scoop in their papers exactly two days later. What this essentially means is that your reporting on here that the Mail is reporting our interest in Herrera is just as pointless as those pointless gimps who report on here everything Agent21455 says on twitter. It's the same thing.

Just saying.

There are quotes from the Pachuca president.

Herrera is recovering from an ankle injury but United see him as a decent replacement for former transfer target Lucas Moura who moved to Paris St Germain.

Great little nugget of journalism in the Mail article.

Yeah that struck me and "United, who have also gained a work permit for Chilean striker Angelo Henriquez, are understood to be exploring the possibility of taking defender Phillipe Mexes on loan from AC Milan."

As if...

Brilliant, we need replacements for all our former transfer targets now. Lucas Moura was a good replacement for Alexis Sánchez and Kagawa was an OK one for Sneijder but neither is a target any more and I feel empty.

Watched half of the full match vs korea posted earlier (again as I saw the original)

Not an impressive 45. Runs about but slows down as he's about to get to someone who has the ball, just holds his position in front of Salcido who is protecting the defence. On the ball he picks out some half decent passes but from that video he looks like a £3 million version of Carrick or Fletcher. He won some headers though so there is that...

You say that like it's a bad thing?

What do you mean "stopping just short"?

You said he slowed down as he approached the player on the ball. That's what you're supposed to do. That's how you play football.

Some people just don't get this, they think you can just go charging in to every tackle. There's nothing better as a player than a Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime who comes in at you like that, you'll pass or run rings around him all day.

I coached in america for ten years and helped get about three dozen of them into college on full football scholarships so yes I do have "Mexican sources" smartarse.

Get you. I just said I liked it. Some people.

Bollocks Pogue, it's clear you've never played the game.

When playing football, particularly in a defensive capacity (I know, I was a centre-half in my day) the best thing to do is run at a player, and not even think of slowing down as you approach them. In fact, speed up, run even faster. Maybe even put your head down. This always, always works.

I don't want this guy if he's too stupid to know that a head down charge, as a defensive player, straight into an attacker is how football is played.

Slowing down, jockeying for possession, holding a player up rather than commit yourself to a headlong charge taking you out of position altogether?

Do not want.

Sounds like you want Scholes as a defensive midfielder...

If you stop short of the player you're not actually going to be there to tackle him. Do you have a problem with distances?

Its pretty obvious theres something wrong with his approach hence me mentioning it. Its only 45 mins of football but in that 45 mins he was just closing down for the sake of it, not closing down like he's going to win the ball. Its something you expect from an attacker because they arent too interested in defending.
