Have we signed anyone yet? | Yes, with stupid tax

so it's not useful to point out the top two clubs in the country have done major business by July 13 and the club which scrapped sixth spot has done nothing...? this is exactly why we are where we are
Yes it isn't useful, players haven't even had their holidays yet and people are here crying we haven't made any signings. As long as we have some in before our pre season tour it's all good.

These things can take time, and it can be any number of things holding things up that the club have no control of.

Great to see th best teams getting stronger meanwhile we are about 2-3 signings away from only having the equivalent squad as the start of last season

prepare to be attacked by some on here for having the temerity to point this out! New suits at the club, same old practice

Is there a race I'm not aware of? Players like Haaland and Tchouameni are first come, first serve ?

Sorry but it should be clear as day for everyone to see by now that there is massive problems in that dressing room and those problems (that will have been identified by Ralf which is why he was important) need to go first and foremost. Should not just be about new signings or playing well that will come with time and patience.

Most of them already showed how toxic they were with an utter lack of passion accountability fight desire or any regard at all for the fans and for me i would start with binning Rashford and Mr "i can't be that bad if managers keep picking me".

Really is just a genuine disgrace that Hannibal would come on for 10 minutes at Anfield and instantly get motm for running about a bit, it shows how peak it is right now no matter how bad this team was they would always show up and give the dippers especially a fight. Look at it this way as well, birdshit boy is a better full back and captain than anyone currently at the club we all know it.

Edit: Seriously who the feck wasn't excited that it felt like we had an actual plan in place with Ralf and his football knowledge moving to the back and ruffling some feathers? Facilitating a clearout of the rotting core of the team while helping us spot the talented and hungry Mane's, Upamecano and Tchoumeni's etc too?

And now he gets booted from the job before even starting and this summer's MO all feels so familiar. We all know the FDJ transfer is going to be a summer long saga if it even happens at all and at the end of the day he is a player that just doesn't want to be here. Just watch us start scrambling in the last 4 days of the window for players and we make all sorts of excuses for the lack of preseason, just what we do.

I think this window highlights exactly where we are and where the Board wants us to be. Rangnick declaring the club needs an overhaul? Slightly unrealistic maybe but quite right in what he was saying. Yet now hes gone and no business done despite the tour coming up in a few weeks, with ETH wanting to start pushing his new style on the team and get them up to scratch... worrying.

No, I can see this summer getting 1 or 2 in with maybe 1 or 2 sold and pushing for Top 4. Thats where the Board wants us and its clear to see.

Slightly unrealistic? 10 in is completely unrealistic.

The tour is about 3 weeks away, so the club have 3 weeks to do business. Alot of players are still playing and the season hasn't closed.

The club want to try and get De Jong as a crucial signing, if that can be done, it would mean we know what to do elsewhere, if we cannot, we need to move a different direction.

There is no point signing for sake of signing.

Our new XI next season is shaping up nicely

Ten Hag wouldn't take the job with no assurance that he will be backed on the transfer window. He's certainly looking for players that fit his style and will move to secondary targets if necessary, but this is not a problem. We neeed get used to that concept. Appart from the current version of "i-want-a-champions-league-without-Messi" Guardiola, the cruyffist and bielsist managers tend to sign system players, not exactly muppet material.

Some reasons why we’re shit at transfers (generally and then this season):

1. We have a finite budget and need to sign multiple first team players to get to where we want to be so need to negotiate hard on fees. We are the only club in world football in this position due to our underperformance coupled with our size, status and expectations.

2. We are not currently a top club but won’t accept that and try to sign world class players that really aren’t that keen on playing for us.

3. The people in charge of transfers are not as experienced as their counterparts at other clubs.

4. We just changed our manager so looks like planning only just started

I think we are going to do a one mega announcement with Antony , FDJ, Sangare, Timber and Eriksen all announced together. One grand picture with them holding the jersey

So frustrating

Clubs around us improving and we are just constantly stuck in the stages of "interest" or "in talks".

Absolute Jokers running our club.

Literally doesn't matter as long as the signing is completed before the day they would start training anyway. So if De Jong has another game tomorrow, then add 3 weeks off until he reports... So it doesn't make any difference as long as it's done by the start of July.

Wahey transfer window bingo, for the sake of signing/sake of it.

Every summer there's bootlickers who insist it's fine we take so long. Guarantee if we'd done business early it would be praised though.

The argument is getting the signings done before pre season actually starts is all "early". July is "normal". August is "late". So let's not overreact because we didn't do anything in the first 2 weeks of the window...

It makes plenty of difference because if he turns us down in 3 weeks then what? We're left in a struggle.

You get signings done early so that well scouted targets are secured quickly to avoid competition. You also benefit from knowing funds which is why some are making the opposite excuse that we have to sign FDJ then go elsewhere.

+ all the player linked are of people with low work rate and that can’t run enough

So seems that they have also wrong ideas of the United current context

We signed Sancho early last summer and he didn't have a great season. Ronaldo came in after we started the season and was the best signing of the three.

People need to relax. We always sign players. We always will.

well your mummy should have told you that if you haven't got anything useful to say, then keep quiet
Grown man throwing a tantrum because his club hasn’t bought a player yet hahaha. Grow up and go enjoy your life.

I just hope for once we sign the right players rather than some players.
Remember the summer we spent 90 million on Donny Van de Beek, Diallo and Pellistri?

I think people are hurting because of the season we've just had and the fact we've been usurped by our two bitterest rivals. It's not as if it's Arsenal or Chelsea who've taken advantage of our downfall (okay, maybe Chelsea a bit at times), it's Liverpool and Manchester City. People wanted to see signs that the club was finally getting its act together right from the last kick of the season, which may well be unrealistic, but so far they've seen City sign a striker with the potential to be one of the greatest ever produced, and then they've seen Liverpool sign a striker we were keen on. Obviously it remains to be seen how good Nunez really is, but missing out on him to Liverpool does hurt. We've also just seen Ryan Gravenberch turn us down to go to Bayern Munich - a logical decision for him, but another kick in the nuts for us.

Meanwhile, we seem to be entering another merry dance, this time over Frenkie De Jong, a player who I'm not sure is all that keen on the move anyway. I agree that we were never really in a position to make early signings. Haaland was never going to come to us (I really, really wanted him to, but oh well), and Nunez and Gravenberch have gone to clubs that win trophies and offer stability. We were always going to have to be more patient. All I'm saying is I understand some posters' anxieties and frustrations. If all we end up with his is De Jong and maybe Antony,we'll have to hope that Ten Hag is going to get a tune out of some of our existing players, which might happen, but if not...

So far, everythings looks the same as previous years.
1. We are pursuing one superstar target, with 50-50 chances of success,
2. We are connected with 100 unnecessary players who in the end finish in our rivals,
3. We don't pursue players in positions that are vital at the moment
4. We will probably bring one player just to pay his salary (I am looking at you 5000 goalkeepers)
5. In the end manager will repeat some shit mantra like: "this team was 2nd just 2 seasons ago, players want to prove themselves for me again".
6. At least club is getting rid of some players

I have seen a few comments about how we need to finish the FDJ deal before we look at other players, so you mean a club the size of Manchester United cannot handle more than one negotiation on the go?

We interviewed ETH extensively, we knew what his plans were before we offered him the job so what is stopping us signing players, and i dont accept that players are on holiday or playing internationals, players do not negotiate transfers their agents do.

We are making the same excuses, considering the players that have left the club before we even said we needed a few players the urgency isn't enough

Signing players early isn't just about getting them out there by the time pre-season starts. It's a priority to have them settled in a new country and environment as swiftly as possible, and that extends to their families. You want them to be as adjusted as possible and then able to completely focus on their football, and wherever possible, not have that process spill into the season proper.

We have a new manager with a vastly different ideology to what has preceded him, and by the time the work starts, you want as few distractions for his newly signed players as there can be; with the amount of business we should be doing this window, you'd expect some signings to trickle through in June and not a deluge late in the window as that's just asking for trouble. Some may take to living in Manchester/Chester like ducks to water, others could have problems, both perfectly normal, but wherever that can be expedited, you do it.

We're already playing catch up to a host of clubs and a poorly constructed transfer window can only make that worse. There's a reason to shoot out the traps with signings done and dusted and it is obviously preferable whenever the opportunity presents itself; what you're left wondering with United is: has no work been done on tapping up/working on these targets before the window even opened? Why are they being 'convinced' in an ongoing process instead of sounded out and influenced a long, long time ago (as soon as ten Hag was going to become our manager - he would have dropped a list of targets immediately) especially so with a supposed 4+ bodies coming in this summer - not a single one already here is odd or leaves you wondering if they all still being buttered up.

I am not one to say its fine we take long. What's the point panicking after 1 week of the window?

If we get 2/3 before the start of the season and 2 by pre season, there is nothing wrong with that. Unless you are of the opinion transfers are like in football manager.

With OGS, players didnt even got match fitness, forget proper training. Also Ronaldo shouldnt be compared for anyone. Getting a player before preseason is quite important when we have good coaches as manager.

IMO I think we are obviously haggling over the price for Frenkie, they want the lowest price possible with addons. Once we get that deal done at some point then we will see how much is left and then decide weather to go for either one of Timber or Antony. I don't see us getting both with the money we have to spend, maybe might get some cheap signing and that's it. We haven't sold anyone yet don't know if anyone is even interested in the players we are selling.

I think it's understandable to see that people are becoming frustrated. Of course it's early in the transfer window, but naturally people expected to see United being the ones to get someone in early after the season we've had and the number of players we are losing.

Let's not forget that we've had a season where we became a true laughing stock in English football. A banter club for journalists, rivals and even our own fans to poke fun at. Quite the dramatic fall from the all-conquering sides many were used to after SAF (thankfully I still have the memories of Big Ron to keep me grounded).

The club has been horrendously mismanaged and on top of that, had a group of players who seemed far more interested in being members of the 'in crowd' and getting their own way, than playing for the shirt.

Add to that the fact that we've lost a good few players, even if they're mostly squad players, and you can see why people are concerned. We finished the season in humiliating fashion, in a poor League position, with a squad making the headlines for all the wrong reasons and we are now considerably weaker than we were then. Fans will surely have been hoping for a positive start to the summer but instead we're seeing top players shy away from the club, penny pinching from the owners and United looking like spending another summer exclusively courting one superstar player who according to reports, doesn't particularly fancy us.

It's a very worrying time to be a United fan. I think there's a positive feeling around Ten Hag, but a very real concern that he might have let himself be convinced by conmen that real change would be coming. Only time will tell though.

We're being taken for a ride again this year.

In two weeks time some of our players will be returning to start their pre-season training and ETH still doesn't know who will be in our team this season.

I thought that things might change this year but it seems that it's more of the same.

3 of the top 4 have come into the summer prepared and significantly strengthened their squads already. We instead have a bucket of turds still internally discussing players despite being the club with the most to do. The upcoming season might tricky be a relegation battle if recruitment doesn’t improve soon and we go back to flapping around aimlessly before signing the likes of Cavani on deadline day.

Very true the club is not diligent at transfers negotiations. It's due to having individuals who are inferior in the role that is required to do this efficiently.

De Jong is a good example the Romero source has said that John Murtough has been in discussion with Barcelona for a few months. If that's true we can already categorise his sufficiency to deal with incomings.

3 weeks to get all signings done and the club have a one signing per player policy, in a situation where as many as four positions need supplication. It's almost a guarantee that the club is going to be behind this summer. The signs and what the media is reporting is clearly creating the same narrative. All of this is dependent on how accurate reports are but I'd have more cognition to believe nothings change as opposed to one man revolutionising everything.

Not exactly the start Murtough would've wanted to showcase his ability as a DOF. I think we're struggling to work out how to sign players on a limited budget as we're used to just spunking money on players.

It's been 4 days since the market opened.

Why are you all so jumpy?
Let's play devil's advocate: it's been 4 days since the market opened and yet teams who are already well oiled machines have already got key signings under their belt. Given we were playing catch up to the iterations just gone, is it prudent to bring players in later than numerous sides already ahead of us?

The fact deals are going through before the market even opened makes it clear that it isn't a great marker, but even if it was, the more settled the side, the farther into the window they can afford to conclude business. A side and club in absolute disarray need more time than everyone else to bed signings and try and get up to speed to even meet the bar to compete against teams they are already some distance behind.

Nice to see Spurs Liverpool and City really improving this summer.

They are really doing their best to leave us in the dust who are doing next to nothing despite needing the most

It's less than a month until the team leaves the UK. I think people just wanted this window to be smooth and slick, get players in and give them and us the best possible chance of doing well. I'm guessing we're about 2 weeks off training again, so ideally we want the vast majority together for that first session.

Yeah I think this is a bit hasty.

City obviously did a superb bit of business getting the Haaland deal sorted so early but this is not the norm, and seemingly they have been working on this for the best part of a year.

Fair play that Liverpool have also moved quickly on Nunez.

Spurs have only signed free agents which obviously is easier/quicker, and neither Chelsea (somewhat held back by the takeover situation admittedly) or Arsenal have done any (significant) business.

I might be wrong but historically when a new manager comes in I think it's rare to see signings this early.

What I'd be more worried about is the fact that United don't appear to have their recruitment team/strategy really in place yet though, with Rangnick's consultancy role being binned, Judge leaving rather unexpectedly and this deputy football director vacancy still open it seems from the outside that there's still work to do here.
