Harry Maguire | Signed

to be fair I misread your post as Big Time not Big Team

That's it - the semi was great, but if he really wanted to make what most people would agree was a step up - probably limited to only 6 teams in England (would you agree?) he's vastly hindered himself with that deal.

But then I guess 99.9% of us would take a massive pay hike to stay where we were job wise - with no certain guarantee that a move would come about again?

I wonder if anyone at our club was savvy/cynical enough to try and stop him signing - with the promise of coming back. Probably not then!!

he doubled his money and I would expect he will do so again if he is still here, the question is, will he be able to convince the club to give him a buy out clause, something they are very reluctant to do after losing Kante so cheaply

I have a feeling Brenden Rogers is the stopping block in this deal being an Ex-Liverpool manager.

Simple question.

Man utd cannot afford maguire.

Dunk supposedly available for 45 million.

Why dont you guys just sign Dunk?

That’s just a crazy suggestion. We could afford to buy Leicester City Football Club if the rules allowed it. The issue is value for money. Your valuation puts him at around 25% of the entire value of the club. Naturally we don’t agree with that assessment.

Car crash from start to finish. Jones and Smalling are miles better than Dunk as well.

After they kicked him out, I doubt he's got much loyalty to them.
He's not Rafa, who carried on living there for years, and constantly hankering over them.

They don't have to sell him so they can value him at whatever they want. That's the problem. They also have a pretty decent team and have become ambitious since their league win, so more than likely aren't resigned to definitely losing him.

We don't really hold any cards here. We either need a cebtreback or we don't. If it's the former we're being pretty daft as we'll end up paying the asking price or getting no one.

The thing is we know the idiotic way we operate with these things as Woodward insists on constantly informing the media every year. We won't go over our own evaluation even though last year we were prepared to offer 100m for Varane and could have gotten Maguire for what we value him at now.

The fact we haven't signed him yet suggests we aren't going to. Leicester have no reason to budge and we could have at any point over the last two months, yet apparently haven't

That's like saying many steps down the merry go round sequence, why don't we buy whoever Cockfosters United are buying off Shthouse Lane for 2 bags of crisps, to replace whoever they're selling to Scarborough, to replace who they're selling to Oxford as they look to replace xxx who goes to Bristol City, who goes to Brighton to replace Dunk, who goes to Leicester to replace Maguire...

I know we criminally underrate our players, but Dunk wouldn't be in our top 4 centre backs!

Kaveh Solhekol on SSN saying he's heard unconfirmed reports United have made a new bid for Maguire. £80M.

yeah he went on about how they always confirm it from multiple sources yet said it anyway despite not doing that
Why don’t they confirm them first then? Sky are a joke.
desperation for clicks, twitter mentions and viewers I'd guess

Eh, you mean like we did with Pogba?

Wait, no.

Clubs have to put a price on players, they can't just go "oh he's worth like a billion so feck off!". It sets a terrible precedent. Leicester stuck a price tag on Maguire that they assumed nobody would possibly cough up for, same as us with Pogba, but it turns out we apparently want him so bad that we are actually willing to go close to their ludicrous offer, so now they basically can't budge and have to politely tell us to get fecked.

We offered £70m which was already obscene for Maguire and they flat out refused and said to stump up the £90m. They won't negotiate down from that at all because they know we won't pay their much, so they get to keep their player. I'd say it's a pretty good sign of ambition
Exactly what I have been stating, it doesn't make sense for them to sell their best players, when they are going to want to build on last season and try to qualify for Europe.

Putting aside the sniping that has been going on , the above posts, imho, are pretty spot on.

Nothing to do with arrogance, disrespect or delusions of grandeur ,we as a club are extremely ambitious and wish to have a real pop at challenging the current established top 6.

We're not saying we will, though let's be honest how can any club succeed or progress by constantly selling their prized assets to the clubs they are trying to get closer too?

It's just business and I think we're playing this exactly right, if you do meet our valuation you will be getting a very good player and a consumate professional. If the transfer does not happen he will continue to be professional and give his best on the pitch, win win for us really.

If true...80million :wenger: I know we need a solid defender and it isn't our money. However he better well turn out to be our van dijk or the banter will be on us.

I feel a deep sense of dejavu! Leicester told us the price last summer; we ummed and ahhhed negotiated and ended up leaving it! Then this summer Leicester whack 20 odd million on top of the asking price and we spend weeks wasting time in the same way (apparently) Can’t wait till next summer when his price is £130 million and we’ll be repeating this nonsense again

I don’t know how to post tweets but just seen we have apparently tabled an £80M bid for Maguire.

Maguire or nobody.
Forget the fee - if you would genuinely rather Smalling/Jones/Lindelöf for this season than breaking the bank for Maguire, you deserve the misery to come.

Look, I'd rather us have looked elsewhere and actually had scouts doing their job. We seemingly are incapable of that. I am tired of our CBs letting us down every season - I think this will happen at the last minute and I'll accept it as necessary and vital to the season ahead.

Pretty much my thoughts. If he comes in and performs the fee will soon be forgotten.

They'd be fecking mental to turn that down if it's true.
If they've been holding out for £90m all window I doubt they're suddenly going to change their mind and accept £80m. I thought earlier in the day we may have gone off him but apparently not. I'll wait until Simon Stone confirms a bid.

If true I'd say that'll be it. Wish we'd done it a month ago as it was obvious that Leicester wouldn't reduce the price (unlike Crystal Palace with AWB where it did work).
Still apparently £10m short of their valuation.

If true Harry needs to tighten the screw now if he really wants the move.

Surely if his camp see this bid they have to put massive pressure on management to accept it.

They want 90m, we wanted 70m, everyone knows he wants to go, let’s get this deal sorted at the middle ground and all move on with their lives.

80m tops the VVD fee what more can they seriously want? They must know he's not even as good as VVD?

If they turn down 80m then they're pricing him out of a move altogether which would be a massive dick move on their behalf

Wasn't it £80m for most of the window? I feel like it's only been the last week or so where suddenly people have been talking about £90m, which I reckon came from talking about it in euros.

I’ve not seen the supposed new bid mentioned on sky sports news and clicking on the link in the tweet shows that Kaveh’s not mentioned it on twitter either.
