I want us to get Maguire but not at the prices quoted. Talk about silly season. 80M+ for him, 70M for AWB. I know United usually get reamed in the transfer market but this is ridiculous.
 
Enough is enough for spending huge amount of money on mediocre players on either fees or contracts. I can't see how Maguire will command a world record fee for a defender when he is not even in the top ten in his position. If Woodward triggers this transfer then he will prove that not only is he clueless about football, but also with economics.

Exactly what was said about VVD on this forum....
 
Leicester conceded more goals then Everton and Wolves. They conceded as many goals as Newcastle and 2 less goals then West Ham

but if you watched VVD and Maguire defend you could see that VVD was a far more accomplished defender

Undeniably if Maguire wasn't English he'd be worth a lot less

I think hes probably better than Smalling/Jones but from a defensive standpoint I wouldn't say hes particularly better than Lindelof

if we make him the most expensive defender in the World we need our heads checked

He is now – and hindsight is a wonderful thing.

£75m for VVD before Liverpool signed him was crazy money apparently for many on here.

People are casting doubt about someone who is a highly rated player and has been for some time. Why do you think Pep is in for him?

They also had claud Puel as manager for half the season. His tactics were awful and invited pressure. So you cant use that statistic to bash Maguire and their defence.

Actually they were the 6th worst defence the year before that and the 7th worst defence in 2016-2017

Just get the deals done. Who cares if you pay more than other clubs? You can afford it and then some.

This argument has been debunked many times on here. There was a list of top defenders that played in awful defences before they got their big transfer and it included some of the biggest names in the game. Think Skinrar was on there too.
 
What Maguire does have though is Leadership qualities - something we have clearly been missing for some time - therefore if you factor that cost in then the fee becomes more pallitable....we need someone that can command the team - not sulk and give up when the chips are down

Or look lost. Lindelof and Maguire could be a great combo.

Inter conceded just 33 goals last season, 3 goals more to Juventus who have the best squad in the Serie A

I think he would probably win it here if things don't go perfectly in attack as he has the character and an adventurous skill set that fans like.

Wan Bissaka just won the player of the season at palace aswell. Dismiss it as much as you like.

Under Claud Puel by any chance?

He joined them in October 2017, and it was poor from then onwards. From 31st January 2018, half way through the season, until the end of the season, Leicester recorded only three wins from 14 league games. Puel was a Fraud.

Leicesters current defence with Chilwell, Jonny Evans, Maguire and Ricardo Pereira, is very good on paper and hasn't had time to gel so again, you cant use Leicesters defensive record in recent years to bash Maguire.


Maguire is a very good defender. £80m worth? Absolutely not. £50-60m max imo

Not really. Skriniar was 20 years old. Players of that age barely ever play let alone lead defences. Maguire is 26 and the leader of a defence that seem to leak more then the titanic.

Also samp were 11th place in terms of goal conceded. Which isn't bad in a league of 20 teams

He definitely would as he's better than our lot but negativity is mostly down to the ridiculous price tag. If he was around 50 mil everyone would be on board but 80 mil for a good player is just stupid, for that price one expects a WC talent not a good player.
 
I like Maguire but 50 million would be more like what he is worth. I would go for Milenkovic for 45 million.

It's Utd (there will always be a premium), he's English, he's proven in the Prem, he's 26 and an international – he'd never go for £50 million.

VVD’s Southampton conceded as many goals and was in similar position in defensive table.

No, the point does remain the same that your argument has been debunked on here before.

Even at 20 he was playing in the 30th ranked league in Europe FFS. At the same age Maguire made PFA team of the year 3 times in a row in League One which is at least the same level as the Slovak league.

And what?. Your argument still doesn't stand. Your stat for the 16-17 season shows they were poor. That's not up for debate but Maguire only signed in June 2017.!

If you dont like Maguire that's fine just say that. Your entitled to your opinion. Alot on here think hes a poor player. But Leicester have had a turbulent time and Maguire has probably struggled with the poor quality tactics as have all the other Leicester players.

That's fair enough but the two seasons after Leicesters defence was still leaking alot of goals. Which is kind of a problem considering he is an 80m rated leader
