think i would rather have Johnny Evans back than waste 80m to 90m on Harry Maguire.

So
Jones is a good player for a middling club.

His brainfarts are overblown but he is certainly not top class.
So why would a club with serious ambition to challenge the top 6 entertain him?

Re Harry and the transfer speculation, lots of people are too focused on the who you are instead of the where you are currently and the market forces coupled with supply and demand.

£80 mil plus is crazy money but as stated numerous times, by many on here, we don't want too or have to sell, so anyone thinking we will be negotiated down or accept a cast off because you want rid is barking up the wrong tree.

It looks like we're about to set a time limit now to accompany our 'this is the fee, pay up or move on' stance.

It will be interesting how this unfolds, Iam confident though it will be a deal totally on our terms.

That ITK x/simon says it was a done deal. Brendan just said evaluation not met. So he's no longer a reliable source.

so how did juventus get de ligt for only 67m and not over 100m surely ajax could of demanded more.

You should direct this very interesting question to Raiola.

There was never a cat-in-hell's-chance that de Ligt would be coming to OT unless Pogba went to Turin or Madrid.

But ' only ' € 67 million will raise lots of eyebrows in Manchester, Madrid and Barcelona.

Looks like now, it's off, this transfer is not happening, Maguire is not pushing enough to move, looks like Utd won't up there offer.

City won't up there's? But who knows perhaps that's what he's waiting for?

Look else where or go with what we have, maybe strengthen the CM instead is a option . Tuenazabe makes a step up.

Shame really think Maguire would have been a hit at OT. Looks like the foxes have also gone back on there gentleman's agreement as well. It's all up to Maguire now I think?

Ajax is a selling club and had set the valuation for De Ligt at around 70mil if he wanted to leave. As it happened, Juve got an agreement with De Ligt/Raiola and then tried to short change Ajax out of millions from their valuation by initially offering around 55mil and now finally 67mil.

Have we been all taken for a ride by Ed ?!

Only 2 players coming in this summer Transfer ?

Konate or Tah. Both are strong, quick and comfortable with the ball at their feet. Either would cost less than Maguire (indeed you could probably have a combination of one of them plus Alderweireld for the kind of fee necessary to get Maguire).
I like Jonathan Tah aswell. Either would be a great choice IMO.

Another two under 20s with talent playing in other leagues. That worked out well for us. Plus both those are going to be 50m

Apparently a gentleman agreement to not price him out of a move.

They have not gone back on any alleged gentlemans agreement, our owner has clearly stated that they will not stand in Harrys way as long as an acceptable bid has been received and he wants to make that move.

This gentlemans agreement stuff is being trotted out far too much though, if they are that binding why bother with contracts,as they appear to be usurped, based on your comment?

People getting carried away with tweets and nobodies on social media. Boredom does this to people. I’m pretty sure we are done with the transfers now. Club is not attractive to the right caliber of player atm/no value in the market etc. Time for the football to start so this nonsense can stop. I’d love it to be different mind I just dont see it.

Not sure what point you're trying to make. But I do believe both Konate and Tah would be much better value at 50m than Maguire is at £80m.

And like I already said, I don't think he's been as bad as is made out. He can't release the ball quickly, why do you think that is? He also doesn't have 'bang average' ball playing ability, he's actually a good passer of the ball. I personally wouldn't prioritise a Matic replacement over upgrading the defence.
I don't know why he can't release the ball quickly but it doesn't suit our high tempo style of play especially cause he usually has options before releasing it.
His ball playing ability compared to Carrick is very bang average no arguments there
Matic is the type of player who should be the core in a well set up team not the one to build your team around like a Pogba fact that there's so many ifs and buts shows how poor he is

No, I don't meant why are you bored, I mean why won't it happen? You seem so certain.

They are definitely trying to prove a point playing him in the friendly - potentially risking injury etc

Guess Simon may not be so on the ball with his predictions

I absolutely hate the term ‘no value in the market’. That phrase is one of SAF’s worst legacies. There’s no such thing as value in the market. Just prices set by selling clubs and paid by buying clubs. Such a rubbish phrase that describes nothing but rolled out time and time again to describe nothing.

I think it's more accurate to say that higher ups at the club are convinced enough that a deal will be done to green light projects related to Maguire joining. Those employees who are briefed inform people outside the club that "a deal is done" when technically there isn't an ironclad agreement yet.

We'll see about that.

I wonder how much control Brendan have over transfers over there. He probably put the wrong names in the envelope like 'Next summer, one of you wee bit of lads are going to get a transfer to a bigger club, for one hundred million pounds.' It certainly isn't beyond reasonable doubt, and that is why this deal is stalling.

It does not seem like Leicester are happy to sell within a week or so before the window closes. It is about time that we table our final offer and move on.

If we're going to get him it better be soon. Too much time is being wasting- the longer these players play together the better.

Hello. Lifelong Leicester fan here. Been reading for the last few days with interest but thought I’d sign up to share some input from our side.

First off - the newspapers are an absolute disgrace. They were desperate for Mahrez to leave and now they’re desperate to sell Maguire too. I like to think they’re bitter for us showing them up in 2016. But whatevs. With Leicester City news the only reporters I trust is John Percy from the Telegraph and *sometimes* Martin Samuel from the Mail. So it’s been quite funny watching some United fans as well as Leicester fans losing their minds over The Sun’s daily revelations.

From what I understand:
  1. We have our valuation of Maguire and we won’t budge on it.
  2. United have entered a bid that’s nowhere near.
  3. Maguire is open to a move, but is respectful and professional so won’t kick up a fuss.
I read every day things like “he’s not worth £40m let alone the £90m Leicester want” or “Leicester should sell at that”.

Two very important things to understand:
  1. We’re not Little Leicester City any more.
  2. We don’t need the money.
Leicester can’t be bullied any more. We don’t have to sell players to fund our transfer activities any more. We’re extremely ambitious and have the means to achieve them.

With what’s happening at Old Trafford, Arsenal and Chelsea, I firmly believe that Leicester can finish in the top 6 this season. I think this is what the club believes too. So for that matter I can’t see us making it easy for a rival club to buy one of our biggest assets.

Personally, I can’t see this deal going through. Especially the longer it goes on. I can see the valuation increasing the closer we get to the deadline - more or less confirmed by Brendan yesterday. The newspapers keep saying we’re after Dunk as a replacement at £45m - when really we’ve got two promising youngsters who can step up instead, so I can’t see that happening. The papers pushing us needing a replacement works in our favour, IMO.

I think Khun Top, taking after his dad, will add another £10m per week from now on, and even refusing to sell point blank 10 days or so from the deadline. Let’s face it, he learnt from the best.

Agree totally. Bid the £80 million and be done with it.It is a ridiculous amount and way above his true value, but he immediately improves our central defence and becomes a starter. Haggling over the £5 million is pure Woodward.

This is taking so long. It seems Woody is waiting for some sales before increasing the bid for this one. Why no bids for Darmian or Rojo?

I don't dispute what urbanspacefox is saying either. I mean this saga is going on longer than De Ligt so you can imagine that Leicester is standing firm. What he's worth in the general market is one thing. What he's "worth" to Leicester is another. You either pay that amount or you do not. I'm not particularly concerned if we do not get him, but we do need a proper CB. What Leicester is going through with all of these rumors is what happens to United too with the likes of Pogba, and anyone who's having a decent spell...all of a sudden it's Barca/Madrid interested in "NAME". I remember it even with that one kid Januzaj after like three games :wenger:

Agree that it is beginning to get a little tiresome now.

If Ole really wants him then just match the asking price and get it over and done with. So we can move onto other areas that need addressed i.e. midfield.

Leicester ain’t going to budge as they don’t desperately need to sell.

What I love is the fact that you go on a rant about how it is to expensive and how no one will pay that money for him, how no one will pay the money for Varane and Upamecano, thanks for stating the blatantly obvious!

I don't think anyone thinks Maguire is worth 80M quid, I personally think he is a level above anything we have but not at the level of the top elite CBs in world football, he ticks pretty much every single box that we are looking for in a CB this summer.

If you could do me one favour, after you have stopped your rant, you have not actually mentioned any CBs who are available for a decent price this summer, any chance of a few names?

Alderweireld would have been my first choice but going to Roma.

Mangolas is not any better than what we have, already gone to Napoli

Koulibaly/Varane/Skirner/De Ligt non-starters

Romagnoli won't leave for less than what 60M? Not overly convinced he is the answer for that amount of money.

Dias looks a very good CB but for 60M again would he come in and improve us instantly like Maguire would, would he need a season to adjust like Lindelof? Probably.

Milenkovic, 50M for an unproven CB who again would need time to adjust.

With all those options, Maguire for 60M plus 20M in add ons does not sound all that bad.

I do however, look forward to your list and your expert opinion seeing as your so quick to shoot down anyone else's opinion, roll on roll on

How is Skriniar impossible? Inter is in worst chape than us, we could easily convince him to join us.

Romagnoli not for less than 60M? I think you are taking the transfer amounts way to easy, consider that the most expensive defender in history is VVD for 75M, the second most expensive is Lucas Hernandez this summer for 68M. The third one is Laporte for 57M.

Not every player is above 60M, you make it sound like its peanuts. The truth is many clubs buy good defenders for way less, Barca got Lenglet for 35, Madrid got Militao for 42M, Bayern got Pavard for 35M, Milan got Bonucci for 35M and then Juve got it back for the same amount.

You make it sound like there are no options and the only way to get a decent defender is to spend 80M in someone like Maguire. Breaking the record fee for him would be like breaking the world record fee for Kane or Sterling, are they good players? yes of course they are, are they going to break the record fee when they move? of course not.

Im not saying that Maguire is a bad player, but he's definately not worth 80M.

Any way here's the list of the players I think we could get for less than 80M that would've been better or at least on the same level:

Jose Maria Gimenez
Upamecano
Hermoso
Alderweireld
Skrianiar
Umtiti

Not better, but not far away and way cheaper than 80M:

Diop
Rugani
Konate
Akanji
Yeray
Ake
Romagnoli
Dias
