Harry Maguire (Out): Chelsea eyeing a shock swoop for Harry Maguire | Utd say not for sale

This would be a terrible deal. What's the point in bringing in an injury prone winger? No thanks. If they want him they can buy him outright.

We would never get 60m from selling Maguire. At 29 years old, he will need to be replaced sooner than later, thus, the best situation will be cash in now if that offers actually come.

I'm shocked that you would rather chose to gain no cash and replace Maguire next year using the next year budget than get 20m + Pulisic to upgrade Elanga now and replace Maguire next year using the next year budget.
You speak of 29 like its 33, and you speak of replacing Elanga like you think he'll have a big role after we complete the Antony signing. Pulisic would only move to a club that will guarantee him game time, the link to him is only as an alternative to Antony and he's clearly behind Gapko going by the rumours from reputable sources and you can see how high we're willing to bid for Antony instead of taking that option.
It makes sense to buy a left footed winger, it also make sense to buy a number if Ronaldo departs. Pulisic nope, we shouldn't allow ourselves to be Chelsea dumping ground.

We’ve just gone and spent £20m on one teenaged midfielder from Villa, another £15m on another teenaged midfielder from Inter, £10m on a teenaged goalkeeper from MLS, and a couple more youngsters. Also heavily linked with 21 year olds Fofana and Anthony Gordon each for mega money.

I’d say Boehly is perhaps the most forward looking owner in Europe, mate! :D

Folks worried about Boehly should look at the Dodgers since he bought them. He is not shy about buying young talent or proven veterans. He is easily one of the most ambitious owners in baseball.

Seems strange that a better team are after him though eh?!

Not strange that a team that plays a completely different system and formation, and is desperate for more CBs, wants him.

The other thing people tend to not think about is not every player can work at every club at every moment in their career. He might be exactly what Chelsea need right now, and thrive there, and it doesn’t mean if he stays he will thrive here.

Maguire isn't as bad a player as his performances have been over the last 18m. Could see why Chelsea would fancy him...with bit more protection in their system & a bit confidence he could replicate his England form.

The backlash from chelsea fans is epic on Twitter, dear me the journalist should have just held it up till it was near finalising, now i fear it won't happen.

Yep for all the eagerness to ditch McTom and Maguire, people surely realise that we're already massively weak on defending set pieces, so would surely concede even sillier amounts without those 2.

Yeah but to defend set pieces they actually have to play games and take one on the starting spots in the team.

And besides we've had McT and Maguire for 2 years in the first team now and quite frankly our defending on set pieces is still awful.

There are more chances of us signing both Antony and Frenkie this window than the fridge moving to Chelsea.

Well said.

I don’t think HM is a bad player if he’s played in the right system just that we don’t play the system that would suit his attributes.
Would rather it was a straight buy than a swap for Pulisic and I think Ziyech would be the better option (worked very well under ETH)

I don't give a shit about how much he's won.

He was one of the best players at the Euros and was let down by clowns. He was our best player in that season we made it to the Europa final and was again let down by clowns

Pep and Tuchel are two of the best managers in the world. They both rate Maguire. I'm not shocked because he's good and will win stuff there whilst we repaint our retirement home for the new folk.
he was not one of our best players in 2021. He was decent

Let's hope there's some truth to this. Not UTD standard but will go on to do well anywhere else.

Yes please, I really don't like him as a player (although he has been good in the past, I don't like his style) and I fecking hate him as our captain.

I doubt this will happen.

Yes he has looked badly out of sorts for a long time. Yes he is a bit of a tanker. However, I remember him being our best player very often in his first couple of seasons here.

I’d like to see him at RCB behind a functioning midfield. If his form doesn’t improve then I’d be happy to see him replaced. It gets to a point where there’s no way back. I know many on this forum believe that time is long passed but I’d wait a little longer before writing him off.

I would have abdominal cramps if we manage to sell Maguire to Chelsea and manage to lure Fofana as his replacement. :D

With Bailly nearly out, i doubt this will happen. And i don't think that ETH has balls to allow that

I think ETH has the balls for anything he thinks is best. I don’t think he gives a feck for the consequences of any action he takes with his own conviction at heart. It is his best quality.

We thought Van Gaal was ballsy. We thought Mourinho was ballsy. Hell, we even thought Rangnick was ballsy because he didn't have the normal pressure of a permanent manager. So we cannot just assume it the way we want.

I’m all for selling him. But if we do we’d need to buy another defender. We can’t rely on Varane being fit.
Varane being unfit, Maguire being shit, what's the difference? Keeping/playing a shit player just because he is fit does not make any sense.

I can drive him to London.

It isn’t his only redeeming feature.
But it’s the one thing you mention as the reason we shouldn’t be selling him, if that’s the first thing you think of then that is a problem.

I think he is good in the air and does well on crosses etc. but he’s not got the ability nor speed to be a stand out in the system ETH wants.

If chelsea play him a back 3 they will be impenetrable, fat fk will not leave a single space behind in a back 3.

Nothing against you in particular but I'm so bored with the Maguire banter. Yes, he's been poor for a while but the monster pile on to keep humiliating him, with United fans also culpable in this, is so tedious, lazy and outright unnecessary. There was a time when we used to back our own and rally round but now we're out there making the atmosphere even more poisonous. Give him a break FFS.

Harry’s a good old fashioned CB, great with his head and belting the ball clear. But he isn’t going adapt to the modern progressive high line style of play ETH is striving for.
That said, there are plenty of teams who’d make use of him, and if Sheffield United are pushing for promotion this season then he’d surely be a target.

He’d have to be fit to get that run. Otherwise we’re stuck with someone playing awful for two games a month.

Surely you see the issue here.
I agree. My point was it still doesn't mean we can play someone who is awful every game just because he is fit.

If we were to do a search in the Pogba threads, can we expect a similar post from you in there too?

To be fair to Maguire, a lot of this is self-inflicted. His media and off-pitch demeanour are just as damaging as his tragic performances. With him, you can clearly see an entitlement and a refusal to own your own mistakes. The fact that he's a captain obviously amplifies all of that.
At the end of the day, the fans just don't want to see their team led by guy who has clearly crumbled under the pressure and is at the point of no return.

The biggest favour that the manager can do to him is to take away the armband and take away some of the focus on him. He will still be the 80m flop, but at least he won't be expected to be the guy that has to apologise after every shameful loss. Nevermind that it will be far easier to rightfully drop him.
