He has had some utterly terrible performances under both Ole and Ten Hag. But in a back three under Amorim he has been absolutely fantastic and our best cb this season. Selling him would be madness.

I wouldn't go that far. Against Newcastle and Bournemouth he was all over the place (same as other defenders were).

What are people smoking? Clearly MOTM was the Altay who kept us alive. After that some major heroics by De Ligt on defense.

Maguire had a good/bad game. Used his slabhead well and passed well, except for the two goals of course. Not sure who's fault it is but stopping your GK from catching the cross which led to the goal isn't great defending last time I checked.

And then the 2nd goal, while it was a very soft penalty, not sure why Havertz decided to dive. He clearly had Maguire beat so if he had just kept going he would have been 1-1 with GK. Maguire's lack of mobility continues to be a major issue. De Ligt offers everything Maguire does but better and Maguire is a decent squad player right now for us.
2nd goal? Did you watch the right game?

I said it previously, even at his worse, he’s still a better defender than what people would have you believe.

He got made a scapegoat because he was trying to actually defend while Lindelof was doing his best invisible man impression while not getting any blame.

Maguire has been one of our better defenders under Amorim, it just goes to show, if you have the basics as a manager, players will shine.

There should be alot of players who should look at Maguire as a example / role model. Was an automatic starter under Ole and was mocked, Ten Hag dropped him and he had massive criticism from fans and unfair criticism from England fans booing him.

Instead, he has put his head down and worked hard, now you can see how the fans appreciate him.

Certain players (Rashford) should look at Maguire for inspiration, how to behave as a top level professional.

This.

Also, he’s actually most suited to a back three as well! Hoping we can extend his contract. Maybe at a lowered wage but keep him.
We’ve just activated the +1 on his contract

I've been his biggest critic and I still think we should move him on - but you have to give credit to that incredible performance.

Take it easy bud!

I'm all for giving credit where it's due but one game here and there isn't enough. He's part of a bottom half table defense and is paid handsomely for it.

We can't praise the higher paid players until we are top five in the table again. Sorry Harry, you are just going to have to wait.

If some of these lot loved their friends and family as much as they hate Harry Maguire then they wouldn't be as sad and bitter as they are in life.

Embrace Maguire, embrace love.

It’s just incredible to see this sort of development from someone you’d expect to be “dead” and “buried” by now after what have been some difficult years.

Just shows that sometimes all you need is confidence and someone that knows how to get the best out of you.

I’m so happy for him, keep this up!
Sometimes all you need is a run without having to look over and see your colleague is Lindelof

Totally agreed

Check my post history. I've nothing against Harry
A captain should ideally be a good performer and an inspiration. Maguire fails on both accounts. I say just rotate the band. Nobody is an obvious pick.

Maguire is the one with the most significant (negative) impact in my opinion. He is the worst that yet somehow is the captain and seems to be irreplacable. Other disappointing signings get benched and rotated.

Obviously this is in hindsight but it didn't sit right when we paid 80M for him at the time of signing either.

This is the best transfer we could hope for. I'd take the sale of Maguire over a striker purchase any day of the week.

Nice knowing we will be stuck with Maguire and Scott until 2026. For the fans mental health, exclude them from any social media and give them no minutes to play. Least they can do is let us forget about them, Maguire in particular.

Always respected Young and Fellaini for how they came back from the fans giving them shit, but the shit Maguire got from the entire football world the past 3 years has been unprecedented, absolutely amazing resilience the way he's come back.

Or also in his case Varane or Lisandro or Shaw. :)

Why change history now? Lindelof also had excellent performances. And complete shitshows. Same as Harry.

You could count Lindelofs ‘good’ performances on one hand

Harry looked good for the most part alongside Varane but baring in mind Varane-Martinez was first choice for a while

You don't like him and that's fine. I have also been critical of him but it doesn't take away his outstanding performance yesterday. Proper leader in the back.

Only disappointment is that he didn’t do a Hojlund style tweet about Havertz needing an Oscar.

Clearly you know absolutely zip about football. He was magnificent yesterday.

Good post. He has his limitations. But mental strength is not one of them. Yesterday was one of his best performances and he deserves great credit.

And that was never a penalty. Arsenal are a team of cheats and got what they deserved.

He has been terrific this season. His attitude has been great and he now looks like England's best centre half. He also has goals in him... Maguire gets chances (to score) in nearly every game, he's an offensive threat so hopefully that will also start to reap reward.
