I think he was probably booked for the reaction (which was, of course, understandable as it was never a foul).
He was totally right to go nuts about the decision…..a decision which was utterly fecking disgraceful from Oliver, who was stood about 5 yards away from the tackle.

Very good, well played Harry.

Good performance from Harry today. I won't criticise him for the miss at the end cos it was a shocking pass.

Got booked for tackling Salah which of course you're not allowed do at Anfield.

So close to attaining cult hero status there, but never mind, great performance.

There is still a large element that don't want to admit they were wrong on him.

Wrong about what? Are we supposed to pretend that he didnt have atrocious moments, games and seasons because he does quite well now?

There was a moment (during the meme years) that i would rather have kept Lindelof than Maguire. Now im quite pleased that his contract got extended by a year. However that doesnt mean i think he should/can be a starter in a team that wants to win big things.

You said it there yourself 'the meme years'. You allowed yourself to be influenced by such nonsense when some of us were saying how overblown it was. Lindelof was never at any point a better player than Maguire it was laughable.

It would’ve been incredible if he’d scored that last-minute chance. Honestly, it might’ve even been better than O’Shea’s winner at Anfield back in the day. But hey, close enough, right?

You have to give him credit for how far he’s come. He went from being almost forgotten in the squad to now being one of the first names on the team sheet. It’s not often you see a player turn things around like that. Great performance today—he’s proving his value game after game.

Just because he’s recovered his form now, doesn’t mean he wasn’t well below par for far too long.

It's nothing to do with form and everything to do with attributes, and age.

We've built a selection of the world's slowest centre backs and we will continue to suffer from our lack of atheleticism. That doesn't mean he'll never have a good game, but if we're ever going to be a league and CL winning team we need players who can be first to a ball played in behind the defence, into the channels, can win 1v1 duels against attackers running at them like Liverpool's and Arsenal's centre backs are capable of.

He's also got a habit of passing the ball directly out of play despite having a reputation as a good ball player.

He's also going to be 32 next season so we're not even getting a prime version of him.

Fantastic today though.

Watching Harry stepping out and being proactively aggressive today is one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen on the football pitch in years.

Brought a tear to my eye.

Bellissima

Middle of a three suits him very well. He can sit off a bit and push forward only when he wants to, covering the other two the rest of the time. We probably don't have anybody else who fits that position.

The chance at the end; if Van Nistelrooy missed that you'd have something to say. Maguire can't be expected to finish those.

Was superb today. Well done, Harry! I loved his reaction to Oliver giving a free kick after he won the ball. We need more of that from this team.

Good post. I’ll ignore your tagline

His role is important, including pushing to midfield to stop their counter when we lose ball in upper third.

Nobody is wrong about him. Everyone has watched him for 6 years and there's been enough proof that he's not of the required quality to play for a team that want to be a top side and play on the front foot.

But he's definitely got his qualities defensively and he was great today along with most of the team.

Watched the highlights, honestly still can't believe that cnut Oliver booked him for winning the ball right under his nose with a great tackle.

He’s got weaknesses which if exposed, (like they were under Ole when we decided to go from playing off the back foot to playing on the half way line) then yeah he’ll look poor.

In a 3, his weaknesses (pace, defending the channels, passing, being pressed) are covered up due to having 2 quick partners either side of him. Instead he can be the anchor and defend his box, and leave Yoro to rush out and defend in the channels, and leave Martinez to play the line splitting passes.

He’s always been great at being a pure box defender. Wouldn’t bother me at all if he started every week.

Would have sealed Harry’s redemption at Utd if that had gone in.

Needs to be said, that O’Shea displayed some real class and composure with some of his goals over the years - chip at Highbury. Never feel he gets the credit he truly deserves: going in goal v spurs or midfield partnership with giggs at end of 04/05 when scholes had his eye issue. Fantastic servant to the club.

100% agree. He looks more comfortable in a back 3. It's good to know that we have competent/good/great players there.

He's an incredible professional.

It's not easy to rebound from what he's gone through.

Credit to him.

I thought he was excellent today.

I'm not sure he will ever forgive Zirkzee for that bobbled pass to him right at the end of the match.

Those "Harry Maguire" memes (that take the mickey out of him) would have finally been replaced with a Harry Maguire meme of him scoring a 97th minute winner at Anfield - remembered for years to come by us United fans, and all Zirkzee had to do was play the ball along the floor to him and he would have had an unbelievable chance to hit the back of the net. Instead Zirkzee tried to be too cute and bounced the ball to him - even a striker wouldn't have been best pleased with a pass like that.

Surprised Oliver didn't immediately brandish a second yellow considering Dalot last season

He was excellent today. Don’t listen to crap work hard does all his talking on the pitch with amazing performances. Probably on a high with his new contract but the belief the manager showed to him helping him.

Long may it last. Keep it up Harry

He's playing well.

It can't be underestimated particularly from a defensive perspective how important his ability in the air is.

Oh, for feck's sake! There was only one CB who was excellent in that game today, and his name, unfortunately, was VVD.

Maguire's positional awareness is usually horrible. Maguire is a low-IQ defender who is all physicality, zero brains. He compensates some of his shortcomings with desire, work ethic and effort, but calling him "excellent" is offensive to the defenders who are actually excellent.
