I'm so sick of seeing him throwing his hands up every time he makes a mistake. His slower than an oil tanker turning ability and his years on the ball before making a pass. Especially the one where he dwells ages on the ball then turns back and plays it sideways to Varane before shoving his arm up to indicate "play it forward". He is the ultimate in passing the buck, yet he is our captain. Beggars belief. More than seeing him on the bench, I want to see him without the armband. Given his recent form, I can understand peoples desire for him to be benched, but I don’t think Burnley at home is the game to be dropping him. We’re likely to be defending a lot of balls up to Wood and unlikely to have the ball played in behind too often. Burnley’s style of play should be one that plays to Maguire’s strengths
Agree 100% with everything you said. And I would also add that Maguire was NEVER a proper Captain. Like he was also never worth the money we paid for him, but even when he played much better as a CB, as a captain he was always horrible.

I'm not condoning it, but I think its pretty amazing the difference in reaction between how Maguire's physical fitness and Shaw's are responded to on this forum. Shaw gets called names, Maguire gets a blind eye

Watching him I feel it's pretty obvious that he completely lacks confidence right now and doesn't commit to anything, which makes things actually worse. That bouncing ball, the Maguire that came here wouldn't have hesitated and just headed it forward. The Maguire we have now hesitates, notices there is another player around him, loses sight of the ball gets in the wrong position, ball bounces over him and the striker would have been through on goal if Bailly hadn't covered for him.
There are other incidents where he drops awfully deep and can't close the gap in time anymore. Same with the goal, he is so desperate to fall off and not commit that there is enough space for his opponent to simply shoot.
Somebody needs to find a way to get some aggressiveness and confidence back into him. Hire Ibra back as his motivational coach or something, he needs some of his attitude.
