He's a decent example of why most managers don't select players while they're injured.
Completely stops and moves away from the ball and player.. then proceeds to jog back only to lose track of his man again. World class pointing though.
He's just not right at this time. It's to grind on a player if he's not healthy. He's a decent example of why most managers don't select players while they're injured.
What do people even mean when they say this? Why would him playing in the euros justify him performing poorly in November? Is every player who played in the euros playing to a Sunday league standard? What’s happened to him. Fallen off a cliff. Putting in some of the worst performances I’ve ever seen this season. Must be a Euro hangover surely?
Yeah I don't get it either. Most the England squad seem to be doing OK. Declan Rice and Mason Mount are having fantastic seasons for starters. What do people even mean when they say this? I'm not his biggest fan, but he did fine in the clip you've posted, mate..

I'm serious, see my previous post.you're joking right?
Joke of a player, even more of a joke is that winners like Ronaldo and Varane have to call this guy captain.
He didn't attack the ball carrying player before he didn't intercept / block the pass before he didn't block the shot or attack the receiving player. Other than that he was fine.I've watched it a few times and he does fine. We've over-committed in attack and Atalanta are countering us in a 2v2 with Bailly getting attracted to the ball, hence Maguire points towards Bailly's defensive zone which has been left unattended. Bailly then retreats and fills the void, whilst Maguire positions himself in his defensive half space which forces Muriel to
shoot from a tight angle which de Gea easily saves.
There was many things to criticise Maguire over, but the clip you posted where we were chasing the game in a high defensive line wasn't one of those things.
Attacking the ball player high up the pitch in a 2v2 scenario would've been silly due to his lack of acceleration. He actually played that passage of play well and even directed Bailly to get back into position after Bailly had vacated his defensive zone. Maguire retreated to his defensive half space on the left and cut off Muriel's path centrally and forced him wide, which meant the angle towards goal was difficult and the resulting tame effort by Muriel was easily gathered by de Gea.He didn't attack the ball playing player before he didn't intercept / block the pass before he didn't block the shot or attack the receiving player. Honestly think we'll need to agree to disagree on this. To me he got lucky that Muriel's shot was a feeble effort.Attacking the ball player high up the pitch in a 2v2 scenario would've been silly due to his lack of acceleration. In that passage of play, we had sacrificed defensive stability for goals and Maguire did well. There's many other things in the game which Maguire can/should be criticised for, but the passage of play in question isn't one of those.
I do agree with you that the shot was a feeble effort. But you have to take into consideration how high our defensive block was, which meant the opportunity to break for the opposition was a very real threat. And then you have to remember that Maguire isn't best suited to defending space in 1v1 scenarios, so limiting the opposition to a shot from a angle where you'd back your keeper to come out on top, was a good result IMO.Honestly think we'll need to agree to disagree on this. This is so true. I notice this even in his interviews from last season. Such an inappropriate captain choice. He just exudes despair and anxiety. Thinking back on Krkić & the likes (I'm sure there are dozens if not hundreds more), I really hope that he gets some help, he just looks completely broken down and I'm not sure if he's capable of breaking the cycle on his own.
Bailly looked like a man playing with a point to prove last night. The difference in their defending was so startling there should be no excuse for Maguire still being ahead of him in the pecking order.
When Bailly was going in to tackles, making blocks and clearances it was all so sharp and quick, like he believes he is winning the ball every time and will do whatever he has to to make it. With Maguire it's all so slow, so soft, so weak for such a big lad. I imagine him as the sort of guy will apologise to a striker if be steps on his toe a little bit by accident.
Time and time again he is caught out on the ball and it looked like Atalanta had identified this and rushed to press him every time knowing 'he'll give you it'. Whatever excuses are made for him just coming back from injury or whatever I just don't buy, was he even out that long?
He needs a period out of the team and then to prove himself to earn a spot again but unfortunately I don't think Ole has that in him.
All in the name of banter eh. Nothing said about Bailly's part in the goal.
