Southgate is such an idiot for selecting players who have been abysmal this season and then exposing them to boobirds. If the national manager has any judgment, there is no way that Maguire should be with England now. Fans are not blind, you know.
This is why I feel England will not win anything under him as he is going back to old England mistakes which consisted of playing players on reputation not form

I knew this thread would be a train wreck before I opened it so really I’ve nobody to blame but myself. Still though. Fecking hell.
Go to the how to sell Maguire thread and some poster hopes he is booed on Saturday by both United and Leicester fans. We have so many idiots among our fan base!

Especially when he dropped Rashford and Sancho for the same reason

You can understand how leaders like Putin are allowed to get power when most football fans are no better.

There you go. Double standards (with perhaps a smudge of subconscious or conscious racism, you decide it) are in full display.
Some people just don’t want to get it. Maguire has performed much better for England in recent times / for a longer period than Rashford and Sancho.

Maguire and Stones are England’s best CB pairing and it’s not even close. Some CB playing well in Italy doesn’t change this. Same way Sterling could hardly perform well or play much for City for the next few months and Abraham or some other attacker could score 20 goals in the same period and they will still not get picked ahead of Sterling. Southgate is not dropping players who he can trust and who perform well for him.
And Maguire‘s England teammates are not just writing support messages because they are such nice people. I would assume they know he is together with Stones their best CB, so they need him. Him getting booed isn’t going to help anyone.

I don’t think any player thinks oh maguire and stones is our best pairing. That’s what you think and fair enough.

England is a good team based on their broad list of attacking players. Not the defense.

Customarily dim from Le Tiss, who has had some horrific posts in the past.

The "pay your money, say what you want" argument is always a bit loathsome, as some take it to the full extent of the law and think it includes abusing someone.

"I pay your wages", says a guy who perhaps pays for about 23seconds of one week of Maguire's wage.
Since when was booing considered as abuse?

Joke of fans booing him for England.

He’s clearly a confidence player - I can’t see this helping him in any way for the rest of the season.

He can't handle the pressure of playing for and being captain of united. He needs to be sold in my opinion

So Maguire by all accounts had yet another good game yet is discussed endlessly by people wanting to put him down.

Some people really need to let go of their agendas against this guy. It's pathetic and embarrassing now.

Replaced them with Stirling, Bellingham Watkins etc. I’d you’re gonna pull that shite try a position where you can back it up. They were dropped for being shite, Harry has played well for England and theyre not as stacked In central defensive areas.

Even if Maguire and Stones are the best of the worst then they're still the best they got.

Jesus. Why do some people find football so difficult to understand. Rashford’s poor club form has been replicated for England. Maguire has consistently played well for England. Sancho has not yet established himself as an English player and both him and Rashford are competing to play in positions where England are absolutely stacked with world class players while Maguire is competing against the likes of Conor Cody and Tyrone fecking Mings.

Racism ffs. Have a word with yourself.

while Maguire is competing against the likes of Conor Cody and Tyrone fecking Mings.

Ben White and Fiyako Tomori do better this season than Maguire does this season. Whose problem is that for not thinking about preparing contingency options with Maguire's poor club form? And Eric Dier seems to maintain a good reputation with England somehow. Why not play him? I don't trust that idiot of a manager for anything, especially since he's wasting an interesting pool of players.

White fecking played in both games! Interesting you mention Dier. Why isn’t Southgate the racist picking him ahead of Mings?

Anyway. I’ve very little interest in defending Southgate. I just find it ridiculous the way supposed United fans who have even a passing interest in the England team are apparently unable to appreciate that Maguire has been an important player for England who generally plays well for them and has done nothing to deserve being dropped.

Drown out the noise and the suggestion that Maguire doesn’t deserve to be playing for England is also nonsensical. He has a serious body of work here. These have been the Harry-Harry-Razza years, the rump of the team in those glorious twin tournament runs. Maguire has played 14 England games since October 2020, with 12 wins, no defeats, 10 clean sheets and also six (yes really: six) England goals. Really? You want to drop this guy?

So Maguire by all accounts had yet another good game yet is discussed endlessly by people wanting to put him down.

Ivory Coast didn't offer much with 11 or 10 men on the pitch but Maguire did start the moves for both goals. The first one with a run into midfield and the second with a good pass into Watkins.

Have you ever had thousands booing you? How do you suppose it feels?

The funniest thing out of this is that it's only abuse when the boos come from your own fans.
Isn't that weird? why don't they just ban every boos then

Yeah, it tells me all 3 of those managers are clowns. You don't need to be a football genius to know Maguire has needed dropping this season. Just look at the current selection of ex-footballers/managers that are now pundits, it's clear that being in the game doesn't mean shite. In fact, most of the time they are bigger idiots than the ones outside.

So the current England manager (our most successful since Sir Alf, lest we forget) and both of the last two United managers are complete clowns but LUHGMike off Twitter and the footballing superbrains of the likes of Paul Merson (sacked by Walsall) and Paul Scholes (generally lasts about three games per club) are telling the real truths....?

Sure.

You can understand how leaders like Putin are allowed to get power when most football fans are no better.

Not sure how its relevant but given the country and nationality involved, perhaps, Boris is a better example.

Not sure what your point is. One human doesn't mind being booed by thousands so all humans should be ok with it?

Or because Ramos has no problem that's the greenlight for any group of spectators to behave like kids at a pantomine.

I think it shows the mentality needed to be the captain of one of the biggest club in the world which Maguire does not have. That ear cupping incident was just shameful.

Here the context is different. Every sane person (especially his England team mates and manager) can just not understand how someone who has played so well for England is being booed while playing for England.
Imagine if he actually had made mistakes or missed his pen at the Euros or did not have the courage to take the pen, what the abuse would be like if he is already being booed for playing well for England.
It‘s hard to understand for a lot of Maguire haters aka United fans but England players do not want to go back to the times when most players didn’t enjoy playing for England and the likes of Becks, Neville, Rooney, Lampard being booed or abused by their own fans.

How do you know what Maguire thinks of beeing booed?

Henderson we know doesn't like it and he's a leader of a very successful team. So not sure your theory stacks up there.

But he hasnt been abysmal for England, he has been fine, he has been shockingly bad for us, but when Southgate calls him up, he delivers.

Let's look at the honest facts....

1/ Prior to this season Maguire has been good for us, occasional brainfart but he was overall very reliable. He always tries his best
2/ He was rightly named in team of tournament at the euros.
3/ Since the Euros his club form has deteriorated.
4/ The turning point was the Leicester game where he was rushed back and was arguably culpable for 2 goals. He's not recovered since then.
5/ Fans/ media have been scathing about him ranging from his performances, to his leadership and to the way he looks... MANY WANT HIM OUT
6/ No wonder the lad has zero confidence, being booed at Utd and being booed for his country. He does the read papers, he does see twitter, he does have a heart.

Fans need to remember he didnt choose his transfer fee.

Fans/ pundits also need to remember this persistent public bashing will have massive impact on this lad's mental health, he is our player and we are making the situation worse, what about supporting the player as opposed to slagging him off. Ive been on Rashford's case recently but there is a time to draw the line, he too is obviously shot of confidence..

Always seen Utd fans as one big family, true legends loved, but cult heroes were also created Diego Forlan ,John o Shea, Buttner, Rafael, even feckin Bebe.... respect !
In the modern social media dominated world it is all to easy to sit behind the keyboard and lose sight of what made us the greatest club in the world with the greatest fans.

We need to support our players and remember these are human beings.
I hope Maguire comes back stronger, i hope he gets the help and support needed.

Some man to run the show v ten man Ivory Coast

Regarding the boo’s, not suprising, most elite players ignore them

Engerlund have always had support from imbeciles & far better United players used get terrible treatment off them
Once they boo’d all United players at Wembley while scholes score a hat trick
Absolute imbeciles

England concede a lot of goals then, do they ?

Agreed. It's clear that recent international form is taken into consideration as much as club form. Maguire seems to always perform for England, so dropping him would be harsh, whereas Rashford and Sancho getting dropped makes some sense because they haven't performed consistently well for England in a while.

Southgate is such an idiot for selecting players who have been abysmal this season and then exposing them to boobirds. If the national manager has any judgment, there is no way that Maguire should be with England now. Fans are not blind, you know.

And yet he played well the other night.

As much as people don't like this, Southgate's job isn't to pick a squad for the World Cup compiled of the 23 best performing players at club level, it's to pick a 23 that he thinks gives him the best chance to lift the trophy.

Regardless of Maguire's Utd form, he has generally performed well for England and is proven in the national team setup. Southgate knows he will get a different level of performance out of Maguire in his England side compared to the one we're seeing currently at Utd, hence why he will continue to pick him.

He will 100% perform better for England than us no debate about it. The reason is in international football no team press like mad dogs unlike in club football. International teams set up their tactic in a more conservative way because it is impossible to play a high tempo pressing game with the limited amount they met and trained per year. As we can see with our team, pressing is not something that can be coached and implemented quickly into a team so a lot of national teams dont play that style. Plus playing high tempo pressing football with tournament format where games are played very close to each other is suicide. Basically international football style of play mitigate one of his biggest weakness.

Playing for a stacked England against minnows in friendlies with absolutely no value or intensity is different from the Premier League, yes. Huge difference. Even Tyrone Mings looks good for England, as he does for Villa most of the time, but obviously some concentration issues separates him for playing higher up. The same goes for Maguire, he never should have gotten the transfer at all but here we are.

What about his performances in the Euros vs the likes of Germany and Italy, or in a semi-final against a Danish side in top form?

No matter what, if he is so deeply affected by being booing, it just proved again that he is no where near captain material.
