The trouble is, I remember when this forum was well-policed and it was largely veteran members, people who actually go to games, people who actually play football. People didn't always agree, but arguments were presented logically and there was a general base level of understanding. Since it opened up and became more accessible to anybody, there are 10 idiot opinions shouting down anything and everything else.
Go yell at the cloud while you’re at it. I was a long time lurker on this forum & only joined due to lockdown. This forum, as with most others, has always had meaningless back & forths. You’re one of the worst offenders.

I’m a big Maguire critic & even I’ve stepped back recently as it’s become a bit vitriolic but lad it’s a forum, your sign up date isn’t some badge of superiority. People honestly need to learn to tackle differing opinions better. For someone who longs for logical arguments you’ve just made an illogical one.

To me and you it is yeah, and really there's no need to plead a case with me i'm 100% in agreement with you. But if we're being honest with ourselves it just doesn't work out like that does it, you think the likes of Rangnick etc isn't seeing the things we are seeing on the pitch? Lindelof should absolutely be playing ahead of him.
I agree with this.

It’s horrifyingly obvious that Maguire playing is a liability to the team every game. He’s completely shot of confidence and is being exposed every game. But Ragnick certainly wouldn’t have dropped him because of the pressure it would invite. Every press conference would be about Maguire and his captain being dropped. I can see ragnick Potentially dropping him near the end of season where he knows he won’t be managed anyway.

He be suited to someone like West Ham under Moyes. Their CB's sitting on the edge of their own box and hoofing it clear to counter.

This is just 100% wrong though, on every level. You can't argue with it, it's like me popping up and going 'my car runs on jam' or 'the moon is made of cheese'. It's just so wrong, you don't even know where to start.

All of the reasonable, nuanced discussion has been lost and it now the threads just resemble the comments under your average Twitter post.

If you watched that game tonight and concluded Maguire was the reason we lost/didn't win, I think you ought to take up snooker or darts or skittles or anything else.
Tbh yours and @SadlerMUFC posts in this thread are just plain embarrassing now. You’ve both gone so deep into defending Maguire it’s actually becoming cringe.

If you are struggling to see how bad this guy is and continuously defending him like he ain’t a major problem, you’re either deluded with your own arguments or just talking utter bollocks. The majority of people who have any understanding of football can see this guy is clearly not good enough and should not be anywhere near a team aspiring to be at the top.

Stop embarrassing yourselves.

I don’t think he recovers from this to be honest, the reaction from the fans to when he went off and gave up the armband was excruciating. Even if he doesn’t leave in the summer there’s no way he can remain captain, he has zero authority

No not his fault at all, our team in general is completely shit.

But when you sign a defender for 80m and make him your captain you kind of expect more criticism than say Elanga for example.

And that's the problem. Players performance should be based on things they are in control of. Maguire didn't make himself captain or set his price. Everyone should be judged equally. Unfortunately they aren't. For Maguire to get a 6/10 he has to put in an 8. For Elanga to get a 6 he has to put in a 4. That's just not right

So we are embarrassing ourself yet you are blaming Maguire for a goal that came from a cross that to far post and neither of those players were Maguire's man. And let me guess...you're not scapegoating him right?

I’m not blaming him for the goal. I’m blaming him because he is pretty shit and not good enough for Utd. But you and a few other clueless idiots have deluded yourselves into thinking he’s good enough and not the problem. It’s blatantly obvious he’s shocking.

I mean you already embarrassed yourself enough with the whole “Fred should have played off Maguire’s pass into space” bollocks.

I don't like it and it's not nice to see but he does have some serious criticism that could be thrown at him (Varane too by the way). Varane did it a few weeks ago, and Maguire tonight: if you're gonna make that move to intercept high up then you have to get it right otherwise you're in big trouble. I mean, Dalot was looking round almost to say 'Help me, I don't know who to pick up" as the entire defence was thrown into chaos.

Also, that moment when he turned twice in the second half to try and lose the pressing player in his own half was just so awkward to see. He turns so slowly, my god!!!

I just hate the circus surrounding him at the moment and I hate seeing him get such stick but i also kinda don't like seeing him start anymore. Leicester absolutely took us to the cleaners with that price (not his fault) and making him captain after a few months was just ridiculous (again, not his fault).

So Dalot doesn't know who to pick up because the LCB stepped forward? Are you listening to yourself? I was screaming at the TV for Dalot to pick up far post before the cross came in. Or at least adjust his body so he could see him. He had his back to him and he got a free header but that is some how Maguire's fault??? It's plain to see that people are just looking for reasons to blame Maguire now

Enough, yes other players make mistakes and did tonite but he had been in really poor form. He is not being used in his best position in a back three with a low block and a defensive screen infront of him. He is the captain of Man utd he gets abuse because he is not good enough, his positioning is shocking, his touch is poor he takes several touches and telegraph's where he is going to pass. He is a complete hospital pass merchant and we need a better leader. We don't need a person who has too have excuses, he needs a better partner (he got that in Varane has he got any better) then he needs a better defensive yes we all agree but he won't get any better.

Holy f***, yu guys are seriously blaming Maguire for a goal scored from a cross from a wide player, to the far post of another wide player and then trying to say you aren't scapegoating Maguire? Give your head a shake. People are just looking for reasons to blame him now

Don't know how many saw but the way he headbutted Ronaldo summed this season for him. He is not the brightest footballer either. £80m down the drain.

prediction: he'll leave us on a free, go to someone like West Ham or Leicester and look class

I didn't think he was too bad today (not great either), but he is so damn nervy now he just needs to be dropped for a bit - take him out of the firing line

look where Maguire is, if Dalot here is marking the man behind them then the guy he had to go to because Maguire rushed out will be absolutely free 1v1 with the keeper. Elanga should have ran back and he should have been there to cover the man at the back. Honestly this is Maguire’s fault for rushing out into no mans land meaning that Dalot had to push to their guy in the middle if the picture here

I go to the games, I went tonight and I joined the Caf in 2014… is that ok?

Maguire was shite tonight and I don’t know how to nuance that… he simply was. At times, he looked like he might fall over the football or his feet, it was awful.

Yes, he’s had good games and plenty of bad ones. He pushes 20 yards up to try and win a ball in the middle which ruins our defensive line and shape… hold your line!

He was by no means the only bad player tonight, but he was shite.

he was pushed to be fair

he head-butted Ronaldo by getting pushed backwards so obviously he couldn't see what was behind him or really do much to prevent it

Verane should have Dalot's man and Dalot should have far post. But go on, tell me again how it's the LCB's fault for not picking up one of the two guys on our right

I would blame the midfield for not tracking the runners rather than Maguire personally

I think he has to follow his man there, you can't just let a player receive the ball unchallenged in that area of the pitch

it's a brilliant goal to be fair, as well

Perhaps if he’d been able to get anywhere near breaking up the play you could make an excuse for him. But how many times has he done this and how many times has it cost us. Brainless.

He should but he doesn’t, so Dalot has to cover, the reality is it’s still a problem caused by Maguire rushing out. Whether you blame him for the end result or not is irrelevant, it’s still started by that. I know you think he is never at fault for anything but it’s not just coincidence that whenever these incidents pop up Maguire seems to be in the conversation because you can see he should be with your own two eyes

Have another look.

Maguire was not really pushed. He just does those feint to create a gap between his marker and himself. Set piece attacking players do that all the time after pushing opposition player.

The issue here is that he doesn't feel Ronaldo hands. This is very basic schoolboy stuff really. In this kind of situation, it's your teammate way to communicate to you about his presence behind your back without opposition knowing the true intention. No opposing players would defend a corner by staying behind your back (wrong side) and put his hands on you and risk a soft penalty.

So don't back all of the sudden, and bump into your teammate.

So Athletico score a goal that is crossed from one wing back to the other wing back and it's Maguire's fault. Got it...:lol::lol:

How hard is this for you to figure out? You must be almost as thick as Maguire looks.

Maguire goes down the road. Varane has to do Maguire's job. Dalot has to do Varane's job. There's nobody left to do Dalot's job. Because Maguire has gone down the fecking road.

WIng back to wing back and you want to blame Maguire while Verane is marking nobody. This is nothing more than a witch hunt. It's gotten so bad that as long as he's on the field, people will try and find a way to blame him if they score.

The real embarrassment is how he keeps on making things hard for everyone instead of doing a better effort to keep things simple. I can't tell you how many times he made me cringe whenever he tried to be too cute and too clever with the ball instead of propelling the attack/counterattack forward. And on the Atletico goal, the entire back line discombulated when he pushed forward over a nothing ball and then did not get back in position. No wonder why the crowd gave him the Bronx cheer when he came off, and it was a long time coming.

He earned his nickname as Captain Fatfeck (Ben Roethlisberger was called as such by Steelers fans and non-Steelers fans). If you ever expect an apology, take a seat because you will wait a really long time.

Atletico.

And yes. He stepped up the pitch inexplicably leaving us short of numbers at the back.

This is basic stuff. But above your pay grade obviously.

My god how fecking dumb are you dude. You are just a blinded idiot. You really have no clue as to why Varane has ended up in the LCB position because he’s had to cover the huge hole Maguire has left. And you’re expecting Varane to cover the guys near Dalot and abandon the guy he’s come across to cover.

With the greatest respect, you are an Amazon prime delivered Idiot.

Short numbers? THe picture above clearly shows 3 Athletico players and 3 United players. Problem is Verane is marking nobody. But let's blame Maguire for a wing back to wing back cross and then pretend we aren't scapegoating him...

I was at old Trafford, Maguire was utter dogshit all night. There's no defending it, no deflecting from the fact.
He can't head, can't pass, can't run, has zero vision, has the turning circle of an oil tanker and is seemingly thick as shit.
He also has a habit of marking and fouling teammates.
Honestly he's shite mate.
Whilst it's true he didn't pick his price or make himself captain but that doesn't excuse his complete inability to do the basics.

So Verane had to double team the one Atletico player and leave Dalot to mark 2 guys? Yeah, I'm the idiot and you aren't scapegoating at all

I don't care if you were at the game or watched it at home. I also don't care if you don't like the player. I personally think he's going to have to leave because our muppet fan base has made him the scapegoat and there doesn't seem to be a return for him. BUt to blame him for today's result is utter horse sh*t. The goal was scored on a cross from one wing back to another. Neither of them are his man or his fault. But people are now looking for reason to make it his fault...

Forget the goal. He heads every lofted ball straight to the opposition multiple times a game.

Chest the ball and make a pass or head the ball to a red shirt. Jesus christ.

I think everybody else in this thread gets banned if you have said to you what you deserve to have said to you.

why do you insist on spelling Varane like this? you've been doing it for months in this thread

I get the feeling there's gonna be no reasoning here.
You've picked a strange hill to die on.
