Harry Kane

Not a single chance we would get Kane for £40m. We would need to be getting close to Di Maria figures for Kane, and he'd also need to hand in a transfer request.
This. I think £50m would get rejected never mind £40m (in no way saying that's his value).

These.

Which makes the rumors linking us to Bale a bit weird. Surely we wouldn't consider offer Spurs 60m?

There's more to it honestly. Valencia could constantly match, say, Rooney or Bale and he wouldn't be as marketable. Suarez could have a great season in Barca for the rest of his career and hje wouldn't be as marketable as Neymar. (And he wouldn't be close to Messi)
Thats fair enough. I do feel though one can better where am coming from with my argument.

Because he is a young, hard working, English local lad who has hit success. It could just as easily vanish if things went bad for him. After just one season someone can't realistically start telling us about his marketability when it is currently utterly unknown whether it is sustainable. Since he has had only 1 successful season to date.

More evidence of Kane's far greater marketability compared to Benteke re. the front cover of FIFA 16 game:

EA Sports has confirmed today that fans in the United Kingdom will be able to choose from four players for who they want to feature on the UK edition. With voting opening at midday today and set to close on 5 July, football fans will need to choose from one of the following:

•Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero
•Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois
•Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson
•Tottenham’s Harry Kane

If he was born or playing anywhere else on the continent, he would be leaving for £30m. Spurs will want double that. :wenger:

That's like saying I should learn how to drive before I can understand that speeding kills. My argument is this: a striker who is experiencing success at United would be super marketable unless he was an arsehole plus socially awkward. Right now Kane's only genuine advantage over a Benteke is he is English. Yet on a global scale I doubt that would matter much. That is why I'm skeptical of calling Kane more marketable. Especially when it is a total unknown if he can sustain the potential marketability that being young, hard working English and thus far a success, has given him
I wont delve much further, but let's just say that this isn't his only 'advantage' worldwide in 2015.
For the same price, and even the same goals output, Kane is quite a bit more marketable.

Correct, 1000 times more marketable.

we had to go past £30m for Berbatov years back, so the idea of getting the much younger, more prolific, England tax, Levy hates us more these day taxed, Kane for anywhere near £40m seems optimistic.

Even if it is an already ridiculous price.

How the ruddy ruck does Henderson, a fairly limited midfielder get anywhere near the list for this?!

Kane at United = marketable.

His personal sponsorship deals would shoot through the roof, along with his wages.

Understand the interest...however...with the extra games this season who is to say James Wilson wont more time and go on a similar trajectory? I mean both have performed well in the under 18 and under 21 set ups...perhaps if Wilson sees the same amount of time Kane did in the season before last we'll have our very own on our hands.

Jordan Henderson on that list. Says it all really. And no Rooney or Sterling, really?

That would be both preferable & wonderful, to have the kid fulfil his potential at United. I see Kane as far more developed physically & able to cope at the moment - Wilson struggled a bit in his admittedly few minutes, last season - I don't think LVG will take the risk & he'll buy big, unless RVP stays also.

Get what you're saying Noz, but Kane looked similar before this season to some degree. A good loan spell might be a real option for Willo to get him game time and then he'll be ready to go season after next. Hopefully.

I'd take Kane with no issue, but I can't wait to see how James Wilson could develop.

No chance of getting him this summer nor should we try, hes not proven enough.

If Spurs finish outside the top 4 again and he has another great season, even if he loves them, he may then get itchy feet.

Oh I agree, Wilson has got a tons of potential. I'd keep him around, at least till Dec/Jan. ;)

After watching the u-21 game tonight I've irrationally decided we shouldn't spent 60million on him, particuarly when James Wilson is the best young striker we've had coming through the system since... God knows when.

Giuseppe Rossi?

Signing him for £40m+ would be akin to the signing of Andy Carroll for £35m by Pool. Let's see if he can prove himself for longer than 6-7 months. I'm really hoping Levy rejects all our advances.

I agree. I think Kane might come good, but what's the harm in waiting a year to see?

Carroll didn't score 30 goals for a top 6 premier league side.
He scored 11 goals before Christmas in a poor Newcastle side when Liverpool bought him. Not tit for tat but not exactly too dissimilar. There was a lot of overrating of Carroll as well before he flopped at Pool.

I do think he'll prove to be better than Carroll but Spurs will tear us a new asshole when negotiating over him and I'd rather not spend that money on a overrated player like Kane when you could find players like him all over the continent and at half the price at that.

Wouldn't go that far. Kane is definitely one of the best prospect of his age bracket around -- who else is there? Lacazette and Dybala come to mind. But for £40m or whatever it is that Levy will demand, I think we have nothing to lose by waiting a year to see how his second season goes. If he scores 10 goals next season, how many here would want him? It's just best to wait.

Why don't you list those players then?

We absolutely have to wait at least another year on him. We could get screwed by Levy on a one season wonder if were not careful.

Hes obviously better than Carroll but i dont like the way he was completely out of the game against us. The best players force themselves into a game.

I'm not talking about age group. I'm saying you could find better players/strikers which would suit us better for less. I mean we could buy Benzema or Lewandownski for less than we'd pay for Kane.

The young players you've mentioned of equal or better talent (Aubameyang, Icardi, Lacazette, Dybala, Vietto, Firmino) than Kane are going for £20-£25m whereas we're worrying about whether £40m is a good enough offer to buy Kane's left leg.

Why don't you list those players then?

No, ta. I've listed some but there's a lot better strikers than Kane who'd cost less than him. Not sure he's even that much better than Benteke.

So what you're saying is that you can't think of anyone to back up your claim?

Benkeke is a target man type striker, Kane's all round game is much better than his, and his 31 goals is something Benteke has never reached. Kane is also 3/4 years younger than him.

Dybala is the only striker his age I would prefer over him and he has already transferred to Juventus.

Besides the six I've already mentioned not to mention the best strikers in the world who would all (bar Aguero) cost less? Did you even read my post?

I don't care about age. You're the one who assumed that that was what I was talking about when referring to there are better strikers on the continent.

And Benteke scored 19 in the league in his first season, Kane has scored 21. One played in Europe for a top six side, the other for relegation candidates. Big difference, right?

If we bid even just 5 or 6 million for him a year ago, that would have raised eyebrows. And now, he is suddenly worth 50 or 60 million. Sure.

Whoever mentioned Andy Carroll above is exactly right - this is the same sort of risk.

Christ I'm glad most of the people on here aren't in charge of United's transfers.

As if Kane has any say in the matter of whether he's sold this summer  It's the call of the Spurs owners, simple as that & should United wave a big enough cheque, he's on the road north.

Kane: "Tottenham are a big club"

Who is he trying to convince? The public? Himself? Spurs fans?

Are they really that big? They are not looking like getting into the Champions League anytime soon.
