And I forgot we tried for Bale, which is why I edited my post. Oops.Levy is known to be a very tough negotiator - to any club he deals with, not just Utd. That's my point.

Why so? I'd think from their reluctance to spend anything recently would mean they've got quite a lot saved up

The point is I was wrong, hence my edit.Bale chose Madrid though, that was down to the player not the club.

Well reportedly they're going to majorly revamp their squad this summer, so who knows.Madrid probably can't afford to spend that amount of cash on players anymore tbh.
I wouldn't call that much of an achievement. We've been shite.
Still, surely you see the problem. Almost all PL winners (barring Leicester, who had the biggest freak season ever) were up there with the very highest spenders in the league both in transfers and wages. Kane will surely want a PL medal to match those ambitions you speak of and I doubt Spurs will be giving him that any time soon.
I think one things for certain Madrid will invest massively this summer anyway, Ronaldo Benzema Bale is their past, they'll spend a few hundred million on at least 2 new attacking forwards.
Question is, who? Kane and Salah are the obvious two, both at far smaller clubs and despite the fact they'd cost a fortune that won't put Madrid off. If they buy a 3rd attacker it could be someone who has an amazing World Cup, we know Madrid are like the spoiled kid in the toy story always wanting the very latest popular toy so if a superstar is born in Russia they could go for him. Their front 3 next season could look like this
Salah - Kane - New LW/Ronaldo
Of course it doesn't, the problem is that statement is quite contradictory because you can't compete on wages with bigger clubs who will likely want Kane. Bale is on £600k a week at Real! That's the sort of mouth watering money were talking about here. But it's not you who pay more wages than us, and not only you we've finished ahead. Joking aside I get your point and wages and transfer spend does matter, I'm well aware of that and Spurs are fighting an uphill battle. Despite of this, good coaching and clever transfers can go a long way and it's not unthinkable that the team we have can win the league (not this year though). And just because we're a club who can't compete with the wages and transfer fees it doesn't mean we shouldn't do whatever we can to compete, including keeping Kane as long as possible.
I could see Pogba in midfield too, needs to be at a club earning what he is worth .
Pogba isn't going anywhere.... I wouldn't mind Jose doing a Herrera and Kroos swap though

Would rather he stays at Spurs until we come for him at some point. I know we have Lukaku, but that shouldn't stop us getting a talent like him.
Guess Real will get him though. He seems like such a perfect and obvious fit for them given their form this season.
Gotta admit, I never saw the day I'd see an Englishman being remotely linked with a world record transfer fee link. I remember Shearer, but nobody since has been close to good enough to warrant such a high price, Ferdinand possibly cos he was the best defender on the planet at one point but defenders don't break records moneywise, and Rooney looked like he could have tore the world apart for a few weeks, but Kane seems the real deal.
I'm really ashamed to admit I still hope he doesn't become a superstar. He comes across as someone you'd expect Derek to be friends with in interviews, not the kinda guy you want people to associate English guys with. It's like someone has taught a potato to play football.
It's not like Kane represents English people or anyone else except himself.Gotta admit, I never saw the day I'd see an Englishman being remotely linked with a world record transfer fee link. We would have to pay the infamous 'Man utd tax' for that. And spurs won't sell to a rival. This will annoy me, we should always be going after the best British/Irish talent in the PL unless of course they play for City or Liverpool.

No i don't think we should pay that. We did well not to do that with Morata and we will do well to steer clear from this in future transactions. We can't allow every club to hold us for ransom. We use our own resources and we should manage them efficiently. They would if we paid it. Levy hates United but he loves money more.
This point isn't exclusive to English players only.. The likes of Lineker and Lampard are a counter argument, you've just selected the three worst examples.Tell that to foreign football fans when he's all over the press. We've had Gazza, another potato person. Rooney, Mr Potato himself, Owen that nobody likes apart from Owen himself and Beckham that looks great til he opens his mouth and you can't help feel sorry for. It'd be nice to have just one fantastic footballer you wouldn't be ashamed to take home to meet your parents if you were a woman. Someone articulate and classy like Pirlo, or witty like Ibrahimovic or likeable like Ronaldinho. England seems to always get embarrassing people that you can't help but cringe at when you see them being interviewed. I know that's a very shallow point of view, hence being ashamed but ffs, can't we just have one player that's brilliant at footy that's not a complete dimwit? Once.
Gary shat himself on the pitch and wiped his ass on the grass. Just saying. This point isn't exclusive to English players only.. The likes of Lineker and Lampard are a counter argument, you've just selected the three worst examples.
Do foreign football fans actually think the best football player in a country represents the people there? If they do that is completely their fault and problem. Plus, it's not a good idea in general to care too much about what other people might think about you, especially if you can't control it.Tell that to foreign football fans when he's all over the press. You only have those if you love Liverpool as much as you do.What are these "Scouse Lover" things we have got underneath our names?

That's what I think will happen. Alli or Son or even Eriksen made lightweights. As much as Kane would excel at Utd I think he is too loyal to do the dirt on Spurs, unless Levy gets an offer he cannot refuse.
This Times story is probably just a wages negotiating tactic.
However, I would guess that Levy might sell one of Son, Eriksen or Dele Alli for silly money.
