Haha Newcastle

The transfer fees are only one part of the story. What salary are those players on?

Probably still less than Forrest's overall spend. Or similar to Villa's spend this year on signings + wages.

Obviously the Saudi ownership shouldn’t be celebrated but don’t act like their success this season is down to an abundance of astronomically expensive signings. The money spent to bring in Trippier, Bruno, Isak, Botman, and Gordon isn’t dissimilar to the amounts that the likes of Villa and Everton have in recent years.

To act like Howe hasn’t done a job well worth Manager of the Year, getting performances well beyond what that squad should be achieving is ridiculous.
This is the lies that everyone is parroting. Somehow Newcastle is this great club building slowly and wisely. The truth is that their net spend is only second to Chelsea. Why haven't they bought Mbappe and loads of 100 mill plus players? Its not because they are building wisely. Its because they can't attract those level of players - yet. Im pretty sure a sht load of cash has been given out to the press because the level of love for Newcastle is getting ridiculous. Hence the Amazon vid etc. Soon they will be seen as this great club that built from nothing off the sweat of hard working people. When in reality they are a bunch of racist backwards inbreds being run by an Islamic fundamentalist state that loves a good woman bashing.

wouldn't we be 2nd? Not one for stats typically but I'd imagine our net spend for this season is bigger than theirs

City had won a league title before Pep joined them

They are still a shittly little plastic club and Pep would never have gone from managing at Barca and Bayern to the second biggest club in Manchester if not for the criminally massive amounts of money involved in everything they do. If you think Pep went there for sporting reasons or for the traditions of the club and the legacy of Franny fecking Lee I have a bridge in Brooklyn you might be interested in buying.

I'm not saying he didn't, but they were Premier League Champions, not 4th place/mid table shite. Sure the money will have helped but he wasn't exactly interested when they were working their way up.

Fair, but then if Newcastle had been as far along in their project as City were when Pep joined then they would not have considered Eddie Howe for a job as kit man let alone Manager. The narrative was very much that Howe could stabilize them after the terminally unpopular Bruce reign and in a year or so they were supposed to chuck all their cash at luring Jose or someone similar in to add more lustre to their name. Howe has massively outperformed those expectations and so will be retained but if they experience a blip at some point I doubt they will hesitate to fire him/invite him to the embassy and replace him with someone with better name recognition.

Don't get me wrong, as soon as Howe has a bad run of form he's gone now they're in the CL, but they still need that stepping stone name before one of the big guns gets the job and they have to start winning stuff first.

"Slowly and wisely" doesn't have a hard definition, but when everyone's baseline expectation was a Chelsea/City-esque spree, it is indeed modest.

Also what timeframe are you talking about for net spend? This year we're 4th behind chelsea, Man Utd and forest, not 2nd. I reckon this changes in the future once we actually have a squad of players with more than negligible valuations btw. Hard to inflate those net spend numbers when you're hawking 30+ year old players who've been circling the relegation bowl for years.

As for that bit in bold. Get a grip.

Fact is you are spending a sht ton of cash and are only hindered by financial fair play and the ability to attract players. You are not some miracle that movies should be made about for getting top 4.

I stand by my opinion in bold.

How far do you think they would have gone without the oil money?
Have you looked at their spending? They’ve been rather reasonable and calculated with it. It has hardly been a Man City “let’s buy Robinho” fiasco now has it.

they snagged guimaraes for peanuts while we have been crying out for a midfielder of his quality and were seemingly not even interested at the time. It seems like good business, and not oil money, was the difference there.

What a weird thread title, can it please be changed? Every time this thread shows up, i get a bit happy that Newcastle played and lost.

Yes great achievement but the person you replied to was referring to the OP saying it was the story of the season which it isn’t. Arsenal being top for so long and achieving what they have in the league so far is a bigger story.
I think you’re referring to me.

Is arsenal really a bigger story? A historically top 4 club, with a manager given multiple seasons to build his squad, finally potentially achieving something, but failing short and not winning anything in the end

OR

A club who were relegation candidates just 18 months ago, are now finishing (very deservedly) in the top 4. Yes they’ve spent some money, but the spending has been astute business and they still have some total randoms in their squad.

most of this forum agrees that we’ve had a good season this year. A trophy and top 4 has been solid progress. Newcastle battled us in the final for that trophy, and have the chance to finish above us in the league, having also played us off the park a couple of weeks ago.

the turnaround Howe has managed is nothing short of incredible. They would’ve been absolutely delighted with a top 8 finish this season.

Way less than players on competing top 6 teams. NUFC highest earners are on the same level as Van De Beek and Lindelöf on MUFC.

Stunning that apparently there are people who were expecting NUFC to finish in top 4 with this squad and now that they do, it's thanks to money.

Well they were definitely a big threat before the takeover.

I would say Eddie Howe should get manager of the season now Arsenal have thrown the league away.

Howe should get it just for getting Almiron to score goals.

feck sake. he stole my united chant.

tell all the boys you know
we’re gonna get knocked out of europe
mason mount, antony, marcus, licha and bru-noooo

I don’t think there’s ever been an instance where someone makes up a chant for a player/team, records themselves doing it, posts it on social media and not have people relentlessly mock them for it.

And YouTube has been around for over 15 years, where a lot of them were born.

"You just got Kane'd!" is a classic.

Will Grigg's on fire.

Looks like the PL have approved them sponsoring themselves, sure, why not. Chelsea fans should enjoy that

These lads have never been anything but celebrated

which midfield is better- bruno g/joelinton/tonali or bruno f/casemiro/mount?

Well I wouldn’t swap them if that answers your question. Casemiro is exactly what we have needed in a long time. Bruno has been our best signing of the shite era and Mason mount is a question mark as he hasn’t played, although if we can get previous levels out of him, he is a serious baller. Joelinton is the weak link of the three of your players, so let’s see but I wouldn’t swap them.
