Haha Newcastle

It’s really bizarre to see them waving white flags, a massive show of surrendering? The PR and marketing departments of newcastle United should be fired.
I swear people on here must be blind, it was easy to see they were waving black and white flags to make stripes.

BBC reporting there are calls to "re-examine" the Saudi takeover deal after one of the new club owners is described as a Minister.

Good season for them to have a documentary.

do they stick with Howe or roll the dice with a Nagelsmann, Enrique?

Firing Howe will be a terrible decision. Their team is not top 4 quality and only made possible by Howe sewing together incoherent pieces of discarded clothing scrap into a working fabric and converting meme players into amazing players in the process. For me, Howe is clearly the premier league manager of the season.

I found it fascinating that Newcastle basically get lionised by the UK media since the takeover but there were endless articles and shows about the problems with having a world cup in Qatar - which was quite right, but surely what's happening at Newcastle is as much an issue when it comes to sportswashing.
It's almost like it's no longer a problem as long as the UK is benefiting directly from it.
We have a winner.

All the good decision making from the owners would be thrown out of the window with that.

Would be sheer madness. He has taken them from the relegation zone to top four challengers in one and a half seasons. He has even made Joelinton and Almiron into effective players, which looked nigh on impossible.

Why? They’ve not done anything.

have they not? They’re probably the story of the season. They were relegation favourites before Howe took over. He has brought them to a top 4 finish and a cup final in a season and a half, with a majority of players I doubt many would say are top 4 quality.

How far do you think they would have gone without the oil money?

Howe getting the best out of Joelinton alone is worthy of manager of the season award.

Obviously the Saudi ownership shouldn’t be celebrated but don’t act like their success this season is down to an abundance of astronomically expensive signings. The money spent to bring in Trippier, Bruno, Isak, Botman, and Gordon isn’t dissimilar to the amounts that the likes of Villa and Everton have in recent years.

To act like Howe hasn’t done a job well worth Manager of the Year, getting performances well beyond what that squad should be achieving is ridiculous.

Over Arsenal? Do you think when people look at back at this season, first thing that comes to mind is "wow, remember how Newcastle went against all odds and finished top 4 under Eddie Howe?!"

He's done well, but it's hardly a miracle.

Nor will anybody look back and think "wow, remember when Arsenal finished 2nd under Arteta"

Agree. No one remembers anyone but the winner.

Even to this day a lot of people still think Spurs finished 2nd when Leicester won the league.

Newcastle deservedly reaching top four ahead of the likes of Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea (nobody predicted the collapse) and potentially United is an outrageous achievement.

Newcastle’s investment has been strategic, too. Their squad is still full of misfits.

Although they’ve done brilliantly, it is in largely down to the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea performing catastrophically lower than expectations. No pundit worth their opinion expected Liverpool and Chelsea to be where they are. Liverpool were on the verge of a quadruple less than a year ago.

Of course Newcastle have capitalised on it but it honestly won’t be remembered by many after next season.

And? I said that it’s an outrageous achievement, which it is.

A team starting Jacob Murphy and Joelinton on the wings has no right to be sitting in third place.

There’s no caveat here, and nobody cares whether or not it’s remembered. Let’s just call a spade and spade and recognise achievement.

In fairness to him he replied before I realised I typed the wrong team!

The transfer fees are only one part of the story. What salary are those players on?

Yes great achievement but the person you replied to was referring to the OP saying it was the story of the season which it isn’t. Arsenal being top for so long and achieving what they have in the league so far is a bigger story.
