Gun control

So Obama is out soon. Hillary did not win. So will gun sales drop now that some evil Democrat is not going to come around and take our guns?

Nobody is going to take mine, that is for sure. Mostly because I don't own any.

Hell no, there's gonna be a lot of exciting new products hitting the market soon now that the manufacturers won't have to worry about "assault" weapon bans and other silliness.

Plus, you'll need a gun to protect yourself more than ever now, because there will be more guns about. Just remember that for shotguns, pump actions are typically defensive weapons and semi-autos are offensive. Also, 9mm's are for pussies.

 Was gonna ask your advice about getting a .22 weapon.

A Trump administration's reaction to a mass shooting will be interesting to watch.

 .22's are good fun @adexkola

We're you interested in anything in particular? A lot of folks use them for training instead of their big pistol in order to develop proper technique and keep costs down. Lots of ammunition options, too.

"Can't we just nuke him?"
"Sir, he's in Brooklyn, and he's already shot himself"
"Nuke his grave!"

Biased towards pistols. Would consider a nice revolver too.

So a 9mm is for pussies and a .22 is ok? David Blaine got shot in his mouth with a .22 and lived.

I jest, @barros

It's because I'm a .45 ACP guy.

.22s are good for training as well as shits and giggles. No one in their right mind uses them defensively, though.

Between 750-770 people have been murdered in Chicago so far this year, more than 700 of those have been committed with guns. LA and NYC combined are on 613 homicides in 2016. It's likely Chicago (population 2.7million) will record more homicides than Germany (pop 82 million) this year.

But Illinois has strict gun laws and obviously people can't go to another state to buy guns, so this just proves gun control doesn't work.

I have heard the Chicago Chief of Police and the Mayor say that it is guns coming in from Indiana that is to blame for the rise in gun violence. (Have no idea how true that is) Also I wouldn't think many of the individuals doing the shooting are legal gun owners.

What I have heard happens is that someone goes to a neighboring state and buys a bunch of guns legally in that state, then takes them into Illinois and sells them illegally to others. I have no idea what percent of gun violence can be tied to this type of thing though.

People using Illinois strict gun lawns as evidence that gun laws don't work is flawed logic. There's no point of restrictions if the neighbouring state has very lax gun laws.

Lost for words, really.

Congress blocks rule barring mentally impaired from guns
http://www.politico.com/story/2017/02/mentally-impaired-guns-congress-republicans-235057

As headlines go, it does sound pretty bad, but this part got me thinking:

Gun rights groups weren't the only organizations upset about the Obama administration's regulation. The American Civil Liberties Union criticized it, too. The ACLU said the rule advanced a harmful stereotype that people with mental disabilities, "a vast and diverse group of citizens, are violent." More than a dozen advocacy groups for the disabled also opposed the Obama administration's regulation.

After reading the article I get the feeling that the act likely contained vague language and terms designed to allow the government to make the rules up as they go.

What's more important: the perception that mentally disabled people are violent or the protection of society as whole?

I'm going to go with the ACLU on this one.

My impression from the article is that this act does two things wrong: it does not expressly describe who should be excluded, preferring instead to use vague language such that insomniacs and anorexics could find their rights infringed, and it places the burden of proof on the accused, which is contrary to the principles of freedom and justice.

Poorly thought out and executed gun control measure such as this results in backlashes that reduce gun control overall. Using vague language convinces groups like the NRA that the government wants to confiscate your firearms.

The US needs an approach that wins support from gun owners otherwise it will continue to be one step forward two steps back.

Another waste of oxygen piece of shit gangbanger guns down 2 officers responding to a traffic collision call in Whittier, California, killing one.
