Gun control

Was it really neccessary to repeat so much in that article? Overkill, surely?!
I believe I explained why I included it. Besides that, it makes it easier to quote from pertinent sections of the article in the thread.

Was it necessary to read and/or comment on it? Are you paying for the webpage real estate?

whooosh

I wonder if the majority of Americans have guns. I have never even seen one, except my old gat gun when I was a kid.
Statistics say there is almost 1 gun for every American. The number of gun owners is lower though due to people owning multiple guns for multiple purposes.

Is the second amendment designed to allow people to deliver projectiles onto animals, clay pigeons or paper targets? Strange if true.

Why are you changing your subject to an amendment when you asked about what guns were designed to do?

You painted with a broad brush, and I simply pointed it out.

I thought it would be obvious. The reason there are so many dumbfeck guntoing dickheads in the US is because they have an idiotic outdated law enshrined in their constitution that they are unable or unwilling to delete. It's reason for being is invalidated by history. Defending the right to take lives is the height of stupidity.

Oh, are we name calling now? And here I am trying to have a polite debate on something.

What about the dumbfeck gun toting dickheads in other parts of the world?

Can I also ask you what bladed things like knives were designed for?

You know. I am now tempted to check on air guns over here. I live at the edge of a wooded mountain and it might be fun to shoot things. There is also a possibility it could increase the length of my cock. I heard they can do that. ;)

Don't shoot animals unless you can accomplish a clean kill, please.

I wouldn't even shoot insects. They are nasty bastards over here. We have this wasp...

Piss them off and a few of them can kill you.

Actually, forget the airgun. Over here you have to have yearly mental health checks, etc. to own one.

Had a pretty intense conversation with an American about gun control the other day, unsurprisely to say it didn't go very well.

I came to this thread late and haven't been through all 87 pages, so I'm sorry if this was posted previously...

It's quite old now but no less relevant.

While I believe we would all agree to that statement, the fact is that barring a Constitutional amendment, that isn't possible. I believe the Washington Post is preferring to comment on things that we might actually be able to do.
It is possible to amend the constitution, thats something you might actually be able to do. The 2nd amendment is called an amendment for a reason. I dont understand why its viewed as something that cant be done.

In our history, only 1 amendment has been ratified and repealed.. The 18th Amendment that established prohibition.

Again, I believe the Washington Post is looking at things that are politically feasible.

Well I thought that was obvious - getting stuff out that's stuck between your teeth.

The NRA has split with Donald Trump on the issue of club goers being armed...

Trump continues to surpass himself with fecking awful ideas. I must see a fight on most nights out. feck knows how many shootings there would be that would otherwise have ended up in handbags or a scuffle. He basically seems to want to bring the wild west back, but without the migration.

Am I wrong in thinking that Republicans appear to be very aggressive/hostile towards anyone who dares try to mess with the Constitution, or even disagrees with them?

I have a friend who is extremely religious, a devout Christian. She supports the right to bear arms and I haven't yet heard her make any distinction between a handgun and a semi-automatic - I'm pretty sure she doesn't own a musket, and I doubt George Washington foresaw modern weaponry. So although it states in the NT to turn the other cheek, it seems that you can deviate from the Bible, but not the Constitution.

Many gun owners like to moan about people trying to ban 'scary-looking' guns like the AR-15. But they also need to acknowledge that most people buy one because it's 'sexy-looking' to a gun lover.
Is only scared because people don't know shit about guns and the fact media likes to use the term "assault weapon" when my .30-06 old rifle would be considered an "assault weapon" because has a small detachable magazine and a telescope.
