Gun control

His speech came across like a traditional, old school paranoid, fear mongering rant about "the other" taking your guns away.

Indeed.

It works for the crowd he is pandering to, but that crowd is much smaller than it used to be, and will continue to shrink.

The world is changing and they are simply being left behind. The only question is how far backwards will they drag America before they lose their grip.

I never said “give teachers guns” like was stated on Fake News @CNN & @NBC. What I said was to look at the possibility of giving “concealed guns to gun adept teachers with military or special training experience - only the best. 20% of teachers, a lot, would now be able to

Glad he cleared that up.

It's beyond frustrating that every time something important happens, Trump is able to change the conversation simply by saying something outrageous on Twitter. I can't think of many non-trolls who see the armed teachers idea as a good one, yet the pundits and analysts are spending their time going through long-winded explanations of why Trump's idea is stupid. That time should be spent on covering the efforts of students across the country. This is where the media, especially television news, fails.

Couldn't agree more. Place the focus on those who are trying to make a change - ignore the master troll. Pretend like he doesn't exist. Not paying attention to him and his gang at all seems like it would be far more effective in driving them mad. See Fox News for being effective at doing that in the opposite direction. Of course the clear counter argument is that media would then arguably be well and truly politicized.

What media shows depends on who is funding that media channel. And not on what is right/wrong for the society.
It hasn't been unbiased for decades. So expecting them to change is futile

NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre speaks at CPAC after school

Firstly he sounds exactly like that gun nut from the Gun Control thread who kept using seat belts as an argument.

Secondly, a new wave of Democratic European style Socialists.... Fight me cnut!

Thirdly he keeps banging on about those in power etc, wtf? He's contradicting himself on a massive scale. Does he think Obama is still in charge? Or that it's only Dems that are rich and powerful?

He's all over the place. He's a feckwit.

How many times has he said Socialists, Socialism, European Socialists..

He actually lies more than Trump.

Great idea. I'm sure the shooter will wait for the teachers to put on their vests before shooting and there's no way the shooter would be able to obtain one of these special vests themselves.

Exactly. I might Tweet her that in reply.

Here's a real shocker, I wasn't aware of this. This is insane!

I had to reread that 3 times as I couldn't quite believe it.

I honestly believe, most of these Republicans would defend what the Nazis did with the right bribes.
Day by day, they sink to new lows, regressive cnuts.

Just shows how entrenched the NRAs tentacles are into politicians. Not only are they vehemently against any gun control, they are also proactively behind legislation that would seek to study gun violence.

The capital letters are almost as annoying as what he's saying.

The fantasy world they all live in is amazing - they all think their Spidey sense would go off and they'd become Rambo at the first sign of trouble.

Hmm, why does that sound so familiar?

Immediately after Sandy Hook in 2012, Trump's buddy Wayne gave a speech on the topic of guns and violence.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2012/dec/21/nra-full-statement-lapierre-newtown

The root of gun violence in schools?

Through vicious, violent video games with names like Bulletstorm, Grand Theft Auto, Mortal Kombat and Splatterhouse. And here's one: it's called Kindergarten Killers. It's been online for 10 years. How come
my research department could find it and all of yours either couldn't or didn't want anyone to know you had found it?

Then there's the blood-soaked slasher films like "American Psycho" and "Natural Born Killers" that are aired like propaganda loops on "Splatterdays" and every day, and a thousand music videos that portray life as a joke and murder as a way of life. And then they have the nerve to call it "entertainment."

The solution?

Now, the National Rifle Association knows that there are millions of qualified active and retired police; active, reserve and retired military; security professionals; certified firefighters and rescue personnel; and an extraordinary corps of patriotic, trained qualified citizens to join with local school officials and police in devising a protection plan for every school. We can deploy them to protect our kids now. We can immediately make America's schools safer — relying on the brave men and women of America's police force.

The budget of our local police departments are strained and resources are limited, but their dedication and courage are second to none and they can be deployed right now.

I call on Congress today to act immediately, to appropriate whatever is necessary to put armed police officers in every school — and to do it now, to make sure that blanket of safety is in place when our children return to school in January.

So basically his solution isn't to address the problem, but pretend it doesn't actually exist. Feeds back into his notes where he said he wanted to make people 'feel' safe; he's not actually interested in making them safe.

Erm. I mean. Um....

Nope, still nothing.

Overlooking the headline dumb feckery of arming teachers, just look at the way he speaks for feck sake.

"I would like to see true people with great talent at guns"

I mean fecking hell.

I know. He's said three or four things today I have laughed and winced at in equal measure. I honestly think he's getting worse. Honestly my 5 year old speaks more fluently than he does. And I am not exaggerating.

I don't doubt it for one minute. How is it possible for him to be so stupid?

And get elected. That's the most worrying part of this all. That and people who be out about his intelligence. His whole Presidency is just like a bigger, grander version of Trump University with his voters being the students.

I quite liked Sam Harris' "evil Chauncey Gardiner" quip.

To hear Trump speak extemporaneously, on any subject, is to be confronted by sheer stupidity the likes of which we've never seen from someone occupying this office. He is just utterly clueless.

They have been against for a while now. There hasnt been any legislation passed on this issue in almost a decade.
