Graham Potter appointed Chelsea manager

He should not take the England job, that would be a disaster for him. He should join one of the top 6 in England next.

He is an excellent manager.

Would hate it if he went to Liverpool if Klopp went

Would have said he’s the perfect manager for Spurs one day, but he’s so different than Conte that it’d require a wholesale change in squad that I just don’t see it.

I think it would be a massive error for him. He should be in contention for the next top 6 job that comes up, which is a much more prestigious job than any international role. You could argue Spurs are a lower level job, but international management is not seen as on the same level. Very few top clubs are looking to a national team manager when a job opens up.
Yeah but it's safer though. Top 6 job is more glamorous obviously but also comes with huge and often unfair expectations. And very dependent on the dof.

The thing is I don’t think Chelsea will sack Tuchel any time soon. I would be very surprised if that happens during this season. He would be my top choice if it did happen though.

What makes you confident about this, out of interest?

Chelsea have been pretty trigger happy the last two decades. New ownership now but it could go both ways, they could prefer to give managers more time, or they may think Tuchel isn't their man and look to bring in their own. I could see him going if you're outside the top 4 deep into the season.

He could be the next Man City manager.
Seems like they're prepping for Enrique as the Pep successor.

For better or for worse, I think Potter has next England manager written all over him.

I hope to see Potter for England. I think he does well for them on international duties. Excluding ETH he would have been an excellent second option (before summer) but needed more successful consecutive season to prove his worth.

I think he does well at a club like United, Arsenal or Spurs who traditionally have developed players and made the most of scarce resources even though this narrative has changed the last few years with Utd / Ars.

Chelsea sort of resemble a club with no identity at the moment, there's no concise direction which is completely justified given the change of ownership and how different their approach will be. I just don't see that Tuchel is doing enough to get the chop. He's one of Europe's top managers and is in talks for a new contract.

If City want to continue to build they cannot go from Pep to Potter. They have a winning mentality and the expectation is to win every game irrespective of who the opposition is. Potter is too much of a risk even if he fits the profile of management Enrique is more astute given his successes with Barcelona.

Well I suppose if something drastic happens and we’re way off the top 4 places but I don’t foresee us having a bad a season as that. These new owners have backed Tuchel and relied heavily on his input in terms building the squad he wants. Don’t think they’ll cut him loose so soon after. You’re correct in that we don’t really know the kind of owners they’re going to be, but there’s a lot of reports that they want to do things differently compared to the previous ownership, being trigger happy could be one of things they want to move away from.

When was the last time a team lost 3 key players and look better for it? He’s class.

Brighton have no european football to worry about and are such a well oiled machine. I wouldnt be surprised if they hung in for the top 4 race. The loss against Fulham is even more surprising now.

Don't think they have the squad for it. They are also a team punching over their weight most of the time, so they are always prone to those winless streaks like last season. They could push for a conference league spot though.

He deserves a chance at a big club one day. Hopefully he chooses well for his own sake, it'd be nice to see an English manager do well.

Obviously a very good manager, climbing from bottom to top. He will get his chance at a top club.

As pleased as I am to have ETH, I wish we could see what Potter might have done at United, but I reckon he'll end up replacing Klopp one day.
Yeh I think it was too big of a risk at the time. A lot of Moyes and Ole comparisons would have been made in terms of not winning anything etc. I think better off with one of the other top 6 clubs.

How is this guy not at a bigger club. Hopefully, when he does decide to move, he gets it right.

Spurs sounds about right but Everton or Villa might also work. I'd say Leicester but they'd be down by then and corona hit their owners.

Yep, he’ll be at Spurs, Chelsea or Liverpool within the next year.
I can’t see him at Liverpool just seems slightly wrong for it. No good reason just a feeling.

If I were Potter I wouldn’t be moving for a dysfunctional Everton or delusional Villa.

Spurs, Chelsea, City, Liverpool, United

Would say Arsenal but we battered them so, Brighton battered us so Brighton > Arsenal

At this stage, any move outside of top 6 is a downward step for him. Brighton is probably one of the best teams after top 6 . If he can't get a top 6 team, surely he will try a foreign team before coming back again ? I really thought Ajax would take him as ETH replacement.

He really should stay at Brighton for now.

All the hard work over last three years and all the frustrating runs and finally it's all clicking into place. I assume they're finally performing to their xG which has had them top 6 last two seasons I think.

Trossard is wonderful player to watch and really should be starting for Belgium in world cup, Alexis Mac could very well make argentina squad.

No reason at all why they shouldn't be fighting for 7th or even higher.

It seems like Brighton are everyone’s second team at the moment… they are hard not to love.

No slight on Eddie Howe, but if Newcastle go on a bad run at any point this season (or don’t achieve whatever their objectives are) then that job is tailor made for him. Their ownership aside, it’s a passionate fan base that will get behind him, there are already players there who compliment his coaching style and he’ll have unlimited money to make them better. I feel a little uneasy with him going to a big club with bigger personalities and egos in the dressing room. It would be nice to see a manager of a smaller team in the PL go on a 5 year run and take a team into the Europa/champions league, without them jumping ship.

Not everyone, eh @Shipperley? :D

Loses 3 key players, and yet Brighton have started very well. This guys knows how to be a football manager, that's for sure.

As someone who was born near Brighton, I hope he stays there as long as possible. The reality is that the big clubs will be keeping tabs on him, especially the likes of Chelsea who are prone to pulling the trigger on sacking managers.

Is the great signings due to him or Brighton football club?

I would be worried about a Newcastle or Man United approach.

Yea, No thanks, we’ve got our man.

Should go to Dortmund or Milan for a couple of seasons while we see how Ten Hag goes. Don’t want him at our rivals.

Listening to the Neville podcast…remember when they were being booed at times last season?
