Graeme Sourness | Retires from “punditry”

How a bitter, xenophobic boomer like Souness is still in front of the cameras every week and getting paid handsomely for it is beyond. I suppose clicks sell.

Because of threads like this one. People obsessing over something said on TV by some random guy whose opinion they don't value anyway. Who cares?

Sourness is a twat no doubt about it but suggestions of racism? Its bordering on slander and I'm sick of everything being about race and then the racism card getting played even when there is no evidence of racism.

The reason why pogba has being consistently criticised for the past years is because he has been wildly inconsistent on the pitch in that time and indirectly via his agent pretty much whored himself out to.anyone that would take him oh and he is running is contract down to get move.

Kane as been a model professional for 5 years consistently performed for club and country hasn't whored himself out in that time and signed a long term contract. Its only this summer that he has openly come out and said he would interested in a move if someone come in for him and there has been bids but clearly noone has bid enough yet. The fact is we don't know why he wasn't training when he should of been but noone other than rumours are suggesting it was a refusal to turn up. So the only reason you can critizce kane is for his interview with G nev. Whereas pogba can and should be criticised for numerous on the pitch and off the pitch incidents.

Huh? Pundits on national TV set the agenda and not forums like the Caf. Souness needs to be called out every single time and exposed for the racist, xenophobic tw*t that he is.

Note that Pogba can never win with Souness. If he doesn't provide assists and goals every game, he is branded a waste of money. When he makes four assists in a single game, the narrative becomes that "that is what is expected of a 100m player."

Pogba didn't even cost 100m. If this is not the clearest evidence of an agenda, I don't know what is.

Let’s not fecking forget Harry Kane playing Golf with Gary Neville and doing a fecking full on one hour interview about how he wants to leave.

Imagine the fecking scenes if Pogba did that? Like, seriously. He’s walking around with a golf club telling Gary Neville that he wants out
The level of hypocrisy by Neville and Graeme is unbearable.

He should get his facts right before he opens his mouth, Pogba didn’t cost £100m. Why the feck does nobody correct him? Scared to make him look like a clown or just happy to follow the same bullshit narrative?

Because it's all being directed behind the scenes, they want people talking about his obsession with Pogba. The little smirk he gives before Micah laughs at him gives it away. He knows exactly what he's doing.

Souness is a "Dickhead" at the best of times. Time for him to go and give someone else a chance.

This Pogba agenda is an interactions mine for Sky. No way are they letting him go for someone who speaks uncontroversial sense.

It's amazing how consistently Souness comes out looking like a twat when Pogba is discussed.

Micha won't be a part of the panel next week, hopefully more journalists like Ducker calls out this BS.
Well done Richards. Neville and Souness needed that.

I don't even know where this agenda started for Souness. From the minute Pogba came back to this league, he's had it out for him. It's so bizarre that he's kept it up for so many years.

This is obviously an extremely touchy subject with souness, beyond anything even vaguely rational. I mean, ive been very critical of Pogba at times in the past but trying to dismiss blatantly obvious good performances because it doesnt fit your narrative is obviously emotion driven. He must have serious anger issues in his daily life for him to be so insenced by someone he doesnt know.

Because it helps to shape the opinion of every non United supporter tuning in. That’s how opinions spread….

Sort of off topic and that, but hair has been spoken about a bit — do you reckon Micah’s hairline is sprayed on? It’s way too sharp to be real
Still more natural than oxlade-chamberlain's. If his hairline was any lower he could make a living as a carnival wolf-boy.

I think Souness is still fuming about Pogba saying he didn't know who he was, then challenging him to put his medals on the table, forgetting Pogba was a World Cup winner...

The more I watch this the more depressing this becomes. Micha has gone up in my books holding his cool after bringing this up only to get this old white fecker throwing his toys out of the pram and acting like a prat. Souness and Neville didn't bathe themselves in any glory here and Souness needs to be pulled from the air.

These people are going nowhere, they are continuously driving the circus caravan and people invariably blame someone else for the circus being in town. It's a win-win situation for Sky and every other media outlet, that's why no one has set the record straight in the last 5 years.
They are attacking a player that is universally liked by his teammates, that has been liked by almost all his managers, someone that has never been in the paper for something unsavoury, who by all account only cares about family and playing football. He is one of the most unlikely player to dislike or target.

That was hilarious, but not even that controversial. Pogba is 28 and not from the UK, so there is really no reason he should know a British player who was big in the 70's and 80's. I am a big fan of English football, and I only know Souness through his punditry. In terms of their respective medal count, Souness might edge it, but not by a lot. Their domestic success is roughly equal, and then Souness has the European Cups and Pogba has the World Cup.

Pogba's only real "fault" that I can think of is that he is clearly a flamboyant lover of life. It clearly bothers Souness. Inconsistent or not there is no doubt Pogba is a fantastic baller but on top of that he seems to be a really likable human being.

This. It’s completely child like.

Sky make themselves look even more amateur than they do already by keeping this fool employed.

Pogba a family man, no off field drama in his personal life, a religious man ( not something I value but a lot of people use it as a marker of having strong values), loved by his teammates and managers. Won and performed at the highest levels. A lover of music and fashion and a cultural icon. He is one of the most genuine and likable players in modern football and also happens to be pretty fecking good at the game. Sourness can hate all he want and he will never be as admired and beloved as PP.

I get that Souness is playing a pantomime villain to some extent, but to derive so much of your notoriety as a pundit off the back of slagging off one player over and over is just ridiculous. Paul must of had it away with his missus or something.

"that is what is expected of a £100m player" is the bit that really annoyed me.

Forget the fact that the figure is wrong, I assume he meant "an expensive player".

So does he hold Grealish, Havertz, Maguire etc by the same standards? I bet not...

I bet it just grinds his gears that Pogba is a flamboyant personality... Sourness would prefer if every player was in the mould of James Milner or Gareth Barry.

It's tv - the pundits use personas. Souness gets a response on social media which is good for Sky.

Not sure why people take it seriously.

Because between 90m and 100m it's neither here nor there.

I'd wager it's pure jealousy and disgust at how much modern midfielders earn - in Souness's mind, he's eyeing up how good he was and reckoning he'd have eaten Pogba alive yet earned a fraction of what Pogba does even adjusted for inflation.

Souness also hates 'fancy dans', given his outlook on life, and how men are supposed to conduct themselves, Pogba, to Souness, is the antithesis of that.

It's really easy to pick out - and pick on - Pogba because he is one of a kind, both for the way he plays and how he is on social media and with his so-called exuberance.

Souness is called racist for his pursuit of Pogba, but I reckon it's a specific prejudice reserved for Pogba and Pogba alone - notice he can slaughter Pogba in one breath and praise another black player without even a pause for thought, but I'll put money on that other player not being anything like Pogba in terms of flamboyance and styling.

The kind of player Souness was, he'd have made a beeline towards Pogba on the pitch and tried to nail him - I think it's a bizarre, pointed, one-sided beef that escalated even further in Souness's mind when Pogba said he doesn't even know who Souness is. The man is an ABP: anyone but Pogba.

I don't know whether race comes into it or not, only he will know that. What I do know is, that it could be easily perceived as being so. I'm surprised the producers haven't said something but then again, like with Roy, they have become charicatures of themselves, grasping onto any opportunity to say something controversial - that's always good for ratings....even if it's negative ones

I absolutely can not believe the “soapification” of football. Who gives an absolute shit when Souness has to think about anything? He’s clearly playing up to it now.

Pundits shouldn’t have a personality and they shouldn’t be spoken about in 100+ page threads. Just watch the footy and ignore everything else. Please.
