Graeme Sourness | Retires from “punditry”

I normally like Souness for saying it like it is. However, his constant dislike for Pogba is wearing a bit thin now.

Henry simply stated he was hopeful that Pogba will use his 2nd half performance as a blueprint for future games. Cue Souness losing his mind.

I wouldn’t blame any pundit for being critical of Pogba. Most seem to say what the majority of United fans seem to think and that is that he hasn’t yet lived up to the hype. Anyone thinking differently is seriously deluded.

Caught that at the time.
Reminds me of his bitterness after we won the EL. Too many back handed compliments for it to be unintentional.
Do we have to be reminded we're not the Utd of old every time we fecking win?

This has gone way past being critical. It's just hating.

By Souness' rationale, no one deserves any criticism after yesterday from either team. Everyone was pretty shite for 45 minutes.

So much of pundit 'commentary' just sounds like old(er) men moaning about youngsters/foreigners (their hair, their lifestyles, their...gloves etc etc) rather than any actual insight.

Souness actually gets angry when Henry praises Pogba.

For those who want to see the full post match analysis, feel free to pm me.

If one watches the full post match analysis, Souness misses the mark completely with Pogba. He basically dismisses Pogba as having no technical ability and claims several times that Pogba is simply power and athleticism. He's also highly patronizing.

Honestly... What a bitter old fool.

So, Souness is actually blind then.
Blinded by bitterness.

On Pogba as part of the post match analysis, and I quote:

"What he isn't right now and whether he ever develops it , is a midfield player who thinks he's a playmaker. He doesn't have that picture in his head. He's got technique of a type, but what he has is the most wonderful athleticism. He has to use that athleticism and get into the box."

Same goes for Neville given the sort of midfielders he had the good fortune to play alongside at United.

Pogba was, frankly, a total joke in the first half, and that's before you take into consideration the primadonna antics, social media nonsense and ridiculous hair cut. All he needs is short sleeves, gloves and a snood to complete the full house of things that would cause Roy Keane to sneer at you in contempt.
.

All of which would hold a lot more weight had neither of them spent the peak of their careers playing alongside David Beckham.

Our team was a joke in the first half but let's pick on Pogba because you don't like his hair and he dares to use social media... like everyone else his age (as well as the 2 best players in the world...).

Fyi Neville uses social media.

What a fecking bizarre tirade against someone.

It is borderline racist and quite a few people are picking up on it.I wonder will sky have a word with him

I agree. I hate using the race card but reducing Pogba to a simple physical specimen and ignoring his technique is bizarre (at best) based on his career to date. Souness needs to have a word with himself. He's been at Pogba's throat all season. I've never seen a pundit hate a player so much.

If Souness had the courage of his supposed convictions & respect for Liverpool fans then he wouldn't take Murdoch's coin. Similarly, all these Pogba critics are hypocritical in some way.

Think you’re just a bit over sensitive. Hating ? Really ?

Yes, given he had already given his input i.e Pogba doesn't do enough, he kept drumming the same thing over and over again. He made it look like he couldn't wait to jump into Henry's throat to put a smear on us and Pogba the moment Titi said he hoped Pogba becomes a United player after today. That's not impartial or critical, whatever you want to call it I don't really mind.

Sorry I didn't realise it wasn't possible to say that Pogba was a joke without also implying the rest of the team were fine.

And on what planet was that a tirade?
What do his hair and social media have to do with anything? You still have not addressed that.

But he isn't a central midfielder, and I'm sure Neville and Keane used to rib him relentlessly.

What does being a CM have to do with it? Or indeed anything? Is there a widely accepted positionally dependant hair hierarchy I'm unaware of? Are wingers officially granted a greater degree of freedom in their barnet choices? What happens if they break this scacred oath? Does the same agreement apply to CBs and Full Backs? And if so, why did so many sweepers in the 90s have hideous mullets? What about Aturo Vidal's frequently terrible scalp fuzz? Or Mesut Ozil's attempts at bringing back boy band frosted tips? Are they in danger of being disbarred from the League of Sensibly Coiffed Midfielders? What is the punishment for such an offence? Does this explain the modern cultural indifference towards Emmanuel Petite? Why is this even a thing we're pretending exists?

If Pogba is playing for Liverpool and bossed against City in 3-0 last week, Sourness will kiss his ass and praise him...

Scouress's hatred of United is so seriously deluded. Does Sky know United has attracted more viewer than everyone on TV, how can they hire sourness to be pundits out of somewhere? Pundits should be honest and analyze the performance and say what they are thinking while keeping it more civil. Herny is a perfect example of how Pundits supposed to be, he didn't discuss Pogba's private life as it is none of his business, he sticks with games only, he's more neutral about games for the club likes of City, United, Liverpool and Arsenal, etc.

I get where Souness I coming from tbf. See, the thing about Pogba is, he’s not a proper old school midfielder. And by “proper” and “old school” I mean some vaguely defined imaginary Brexitish idea of a player, from somewhere between the late 50s and late 80s, who I kind of only sort of remember, and who was far less disciplined, far less talented, far less fit, and probably had a debilitating alcohol problem of some sort he was too shy or toxically emasculated to deal with, and which probably derailed his career in later years. But the important thing is he was a proper man, with a sensible haircut, or at least era appropriate mullet, and I kind of remember him kicking a few people in some game a while back when we were shit. And anyway, what was I talking about? Oh yeah, Dr Who’s a woman now!? It’s political correctness gone mad.

Because it's 2018 and sports punditry needs a good villain to get viewers. They have taken that to ridiculous levels in the U.S with pundits saying ridiculous things just for the sake of it rather than just providing analysis. Hopefully they don't follow suit all the way in England.

Yup, literally every show about sports in the US is about "hot takes" and who can say the most moronic thing. You don't get views without some type of gimmick anymore and with TV dying they need every bit of it.

Brilliant post.

Agree every word.

:lol::lol::lol: Great post.
Souness can feck off, bitterness embodied

We’re not. This is your bizarre tangent not mine. You can reel off as many badly styled barnets as you like, but you’ll not find another footballer stupid enough to dye their hair sky blue for a manchester derby and city’s potential title celebrations.

Good thing Pogba didn't dye his hair for the derby then, considering he's had the blue streak since the international matches a few weeks back

"That is a booking" ffs!
