Graeme Sourness | Retires from “punditry”

Racist comments toward Mo Salah describing him as like "Dalglish with a sun tan.

"Souey" is defiantly a Brexit voter.

It's kind of bizarre Sky still employ him really, he hasn't been in the management or football for over a decade and never done much even when he was a manager. I could understand if he won loads but it's just weird he's still hanging around like a bad smell.

Same for the tired old format of "Gilette Soccer Saturday" and people like Merse, Jeff Sterling, Kamara, "Champagne" Charlie Nickolas, Phil "Thommo" Thompson etc. Sky needs a whole new revamp to appeal to the millennials and stop appointing old farts who played football in the 80s and 90s when it was a completely different game.

I agree completely. I cannot stand the soccer Saturday lot. I don't like them . Same tired cliche week after week. I wonder how long it will be until they get booted and revamped?

Paul Merson " Jeff they are a million miles away from the top four, I mean a million miles away. I can't see them winning this game and after that they will be too far behind and wont catch Liverpool in a million years" - says this week in and week out or did when I used to watch about a team who are six games into the season who are point behind fourth place (usually Arsenal) but they will never catch up, even though they have like 32 fecking games to go.

I hate the word "Top Drawer" as well.

Phil Thomson, bais as hell but not even funny with it. Miserable old sod.

Just get rid of the lot of them and give the show a fresh feel.

Does anyone actually like Soccer Saturday?

I guess people must still watch but for me it all got boring around seven to eight years back.

Agreed man totally. Sky sports is absolutely shit these days

I watched soccer Saturday/special for the first time this season, bloody awful. They've had that same line up for years, like watching last of the summer wine.

Soccer Saturday is utter shite. Such a tired format, and Merson/Thompson have to be two of the worst pundits around.

Got to admit I still quite like Souness, although the Pogba fixation is trying my patience.

He’ll be one of the first of the old guard of pundits to be moved on when Sky refresh their lineup. He’s had his day long ago.

Hopefully. He just comes across and an angry, angry old man. It's not even enjoyable to watch him slate players when he has an agenda against them (i.e Pogba).

I wonder if Souness is going to mention the article he wrote at the end of last season where he smugly predicted UTD would not even challenge for a top 4 place in 2018, and would fail to do so for some time to follow.
I have no idea why he, and the other mouthy old hacks, feel so confident when blurting out the same tired old rhetoric.
The Liverpool cabal is so active in the media at present, that almost every agency, whether it be tv with Sky, or on radio with 5 Live & TalkSport, seem duty bound to have some gobby Kopite moaning the odds about their "special club". No where can this be illustrated better than by the contributions of Mickey Quinn on TalkShite .............. jaw-dropping bigotry. And yes, I know, it's ultimately my fault for listening to the unmitigated swill in the first place.

Aye. In the 1990s and 2000s they were at the vanguard of sports broadcasting and their approach catered to the then current generation of fan far better than the terrestial channels. But they've failed to innovate and appear to be labouring under the misapprehension that the same Soccer Saturday crew and Soccer AM banter brigade will cut it in the future. That will always have its place for some, but the offer needs to be wider.

It's also about their broader income generating strategy - the millennials are going to be less likely to happily pay £50-100 a month to watch the football on their big TV in their big living room. That's what the current middle aged man does, but the current and future generations want flexible content that you can consume in different ways and at a decent price. Sky are failing badly on each count there.

Yeah I’m the same I like Souness I find him fair but the Pogba thing is getting tiresome. Rednapp is pig shit thick and his opinions are hilarious. He spent the last of the Arsenal game berating Jose for bringing on Fellaini instead of Mata as United need to score (Mata has 3 goals this season) but when Fellaini scores he comes into the studio and says well that’s why Jose gets the big bucks. Wtf does that mean we have to forgive him for being an idiot or is his wages not big bucks? I just find his whole opinions bland, shite and cringeworthy at best. Other than eye candy for some kind of audience that’s probably not watching, I don’t understand any value he has.

I think SS keep Redknapp about to make the general viewing public feel smarter than they actually are.

Won't be short of offers?! Are they having a laugh, he's as good as finished as a pundit, so out of touch.

He's always been a bit of a nob but I think he might be struggling with his mental health at the moment. He's particularly morose and his temper is much shorter than it used to be.

It's obviously not great practice to diagnose someone from a far, especially when you're far from being any kind of medical expert but I think it's a reasonable observation that something might not be quite right with him at the moment.

Yeah I agree with this, he’s always been a miserable sod but really in the last year or so his behaviour has escalated. Even when he’s not the one talking he looks uncomfortable, not focused and genuinely angry.

I wouldn’t be surprised if something is going on with him personally, and hopefully it’s nothing serious.
He definitely needs a break.

I wouldn't go that far. He's an aging pundit that has experience in a game that ceased to be a decade ago.
I'd say he's tired of always being told he's wrong or having Carragher etc argue against his views in an articulate manner that he can't keep up with.
Edit wasn't he close with Dale Winton? I'd say that could have played a part as well.

Yeah i do tend to think he has some serious issues, he obsessives over some points in a very unusual way. That might just be letting him off for being a dick though.

If Liverpool lose the CL final, Sky Sports News should ring him live on air for post-match reaction and analysis.

"And it's over to Phil Thompson and Graeme Souness for some objective analysis"

The most bitter pundits are usually the ones who failed as a manager. Souness set Liverpool back years through his lack of football nous and then sits on his punditry platform maligning other clubs and players. The only thing he'll be remembered for is looking like Yosser Hughes.

One of these men is very depressed and
lacking a decent job; the other is Yosser Hughes.

Why he is act like he is a king? That act alone should be enough to fired him

That shite he pulled at Galatasaray, probably. Luckily for him, Fenerbache fans didn't know what hit them or that incident would've put him in hospice care for good.

The guy is always so angry and aggressive. Everything he says is said in a complete rage, even towards teams he shouldn't really care about if they are doing poorly.
Either get him some counselling or sack him.

Bitter foods are generally found unpleasant. ... Sour and salt tastes can be pleasant in small quantities, but in larger quantities become more and more unpleasant to taste

Bitter, Sour and Salty. The unholy trinity.

I used to laugh at his bitterness, but I go along with people thinking things are not alright with him these days. This season he's been another level, and I really do wonder if there's some demons he's dealing with and/or outside influences for his general mood. There's just an almost unhealthy level of anger and he constantly seems fed up.

How did this cnut take our FA Cup Final defeat? Probably happier than when he got married.
