German Football 2024/25

Yea overall it was a disappointing game. Not a lot of quality on the pitch, the Neuer red card obviously made it more difficult for Bayern but Leverkusen didn't push them as much as I thought they would considering they had a man advantage.

Why though? Bayern doesn‘t score as much anymore - without Kane even moreso - and are always prone getting badly hurt on a counter (as was the case with Neuer this time as well). Sure, Musiala can unpack a worldy every now and then but he was a non-factor this game without an out and out striker up front.

I don't think it was intentional. Rolfes was very self-criticial in his post match interview and mentioned that we were much worse at ball retention and positional play than we usually are since this is one of our strengths in principal. Said we played vertical too quickly, especially when we had the ball at the byline. Few diagonal passes, not patient enough, etc. Have to say I'm quite disappointed with the display. We got into a very good form with the ball in the last few games but this was a huge step back. Seems we can't get it on the pitch against top opposition this season.

That being said, Alonso is still unbeaten in 5 games against Bayern.

All true but I dont fecking care tbh, we just beat Bayern away in a knockout game, doesnt get much sweeter than this.

But why? So far Bayern are more of a flat track bully and fail to win any match against tough opposition. Maybe the win against PSG counts as such, but looking at Barca, Villa, Leverkusen (twice), Frankfurt Dortmund we see a pattern of playing good but not winning the big matches. Which already lost you one title yesterday. That's so far the total opposite of delivering when it matters most.
So Villa was a big game we failed to win but PSG which we won wasn't a big game?
You should do post match interviews for Sky.

PSG is a bigger club, but I am not sure they are currently tougher opposition to Villa at the time of the match. Which is why I said I don't know. Still, if it's a single positive example that's not great.

I think it's funny that almost every Bayern fan is so far very happy with Kompany and fans of other clubs constantly try to criticize him and our club.
Our coach wasn't that liked by our fan base since at least the days of Flick, maybe even back to the Guardiola or Heynckes days.

Yes, we have worse results against very good opponents than against small opponents, but that's just...normal?
Look at how we played against Dortmund and Leverkusen under Tuchel. We were totally outplayed.

This season in every single game you mentioned we were only the worse team against Barcelona.
In every other game we would have deserved to win but didn't because of individual reasons the coach and his tactics can certainly not be blamed for.

Last week when Dortmund played at home Sahin called for the ref to blow the whistle in the final minutes because he was very happy with the 1:1.
Several coaches and players of other teams said in interviews that we are way harder to play this year.

Kompany totally transformed this team.
Last years clown duo of Kim and Upamecano (apart from the games against Barca and Frankfurt) now both look like world class defenders.
Last years Kimmich that was deemed as not being able to play in midfield anymore is back to almost his best.
Last year we failed to play dominant against teams like Heidenheim, now we control the game, have a very good positioning and passing game against every opponent and that is what Kompany achieved in a few months and with a way smaller team overhaul than what was planned.

Whilst I agree in terms of improvement, I think you are doing a bit too much here.

Saying a manager has transformed the club around yet losing to Leverkusen in the cup, Villa and Barca in the CL doesn't really show a transformed club does it?

Also with the two CB's, they are nowhere near world class.. even the French coach has realised this and replaced Upamecano with Konate.

Disagree with that. For me and most fans I know, the improvement is huge and very significant. Kompany is extremely popular among us.

By the way, I absolutely get that. He is much more likable than almost every Bayern manager I can remember. Much more down to earth, much less of the typical arrogance. But I still doubt if he can get you over the line when it really matters.

Liking someone and saying they have transformed the team is 2 different things.

Bayern didnt need to be transformed but if you think they are a different team whilst losing not being great in the CL, then I guess only time will tell.

We absolutely did. We played horrible football for at least two seasons. The quality of play was steadily declining and we were even losing our national dominance. We were on a severe downward trajectory that had to be stopped immediately. Kompany has, so far, accomplished that.
We have not lost a single league game so far this season. We've lost two champions league games and a cup game. Being the better team in all but one game. We're fine. Very much so. Especially considering that last year, we played like shit and still failed to win anything. This year, it looks like we are playing good football while being the massive favorite to win at least the league. A drastic improvement compared to last season.

Last season you were on course the fifth or sixth best points return ever until January under Tuchel. Then your leadership decided to turn against each other again and became extremely toxic. Kompany is doing very well IMO but Tuchel had it extremely difficult from the start because of the circumstances of his appointment and it was all amplified extremely because of our crazy season.

Frighteningly frustrating Frankfurt. Getting results left and right in the past weeks, but faltering against the aluminum empire.

Amen.

I didn't even blame Tuchel that much last season.
I didn't think you could play great possession football with the likes of Laimer, Goretzka, Davies and some others who are not exactly known for their technical and passing skills.

But Kompany managed to do that.

This season is only the start. We need a bigger squad overhaul.
Neuer, Müller, Ulreich, Goretzka and Gnabry/Sané need to go and be replaced adequately.
