Yea overall it was a disappointing game. Not a lot of quality on the pitch, the Neuer red card obviously made it more difficult for Bayern but Leverkusen didn't push them as much as I thought they would considering they had a man advantage.
Why though? Bayern doesn‘t score as much anymore - without Kane even moreso - and are always prone getting badly hurt on a counter (as was the case with Neuer this time as well). Sure, Musiala can unpack a worldy every now and then but he was a non-factor this game without an out and out striker up front.
I don't think it was intentional. Rolfes was very self-criticial in his post match interview and mentioned that we were much worse at ball retention and positional play than we usually are since this is one of our strengths in principal. Said we played vertical too quickly, especially when we had the ball at the byline. Few diagonal passes, not patient enough, etc. Have to say I'm quite disappointed with the display. We got into a very good form with the ball in the last few games but this was a huge step back. Seems we can't get it on the pitch against top opposition this season.
That being said, Alonso is still unbeaten in 5 games against Bayern.
