German Football 2024/25

That's a fun way to think about concussion safety measures.
Give me an example of a serious injury when the ball hit the head. I'm open to learn and change my mind.

The ref was just on german Sky and explained that he wasn't sure that there is a serious injury and thus let the game play on.

Please explain me the difference between head and face in this context
The head obviously causes the most serious injuries. A ball to the face stings of course but it won’t last long and the game can carry on.

I think myself that it wasn't enough for a penalty but it also wouldnt have been a clear mistake by the ref if he had given it.

Bensebaini grabbed him, he didn't "brush his hip", come on.
Might have to watch it again but I am pretty sure his fingers did not touch him, just the palm of his hand. It was in no way the cause of Sané's fall.

Oh come on. Sané fell down when Bensebaini's hand brushed up on his hip. That was not even close to a pen, not even without the leniency the ref showed today.
That’s a clear penalty. So you’re allowed to grab someone to the floor now? We conceded one against city for Hojlund doing the exact same thing.

The ref didn't know, good he didn't stop to check then.

Most concussions in football history have gone unreported. I'd suggest reading the below where it talks about the most common causes of concussions in football.

I'd suggest @DJ_21 reads too.

Musiala scoring 5 headers in a 35-day stretch sounds like one of those weird flukes that no one will believe a couple of years from now...or am I underestimating his ability there and he's gonna keep making those?
Like that time Rooney scored all the headers. He scores 10 in 2009/2010 and 20 in his United career in total

I'm open for examples for serious injuries from a ball to head situation.
Your turn.

A ball to the head can definitely cause a concussion, can confirm that first hand. I had memory loss and was disoriented for half an hour or so, didn't know how I got there etc.

This is above the ref's paygrade imo. This is something FIFA or whoever should give out clear regulations to *immediately* stop the game when somebody is hit in the head, and have them checked by the doctor right away. Introduce temporary subs for possible concussions maybe

The goal fell just seconds after the free kick. Even if Süle was hit in the stomach or like Davies below, he wouldn't have time to recover and prevent Musiala from scoring.
The ref himself said he needed a few moments to process what had happened.

Dortmund did a lot of time wasting, Guirassy in particular.
On top you had the Sané incident and Musiala and Goretzka were hit with elbows.
Don't think Dortmund had a right blame the referee. If you only have 2 shots on goal in a home game, you rarely gonna win the match.

I didn't see a replay, so no idea if he faked it. Poor form if so, but unless the ref saw for sure it didn't hit his head, he should've stopped it in my opinion
He got hit in the face but absolutely faked injury. Look how fast he was able to continue afterwards. They were up a goal with 5 minutes to go. Of course he pretends as if he was dying. But that is irrelevant since the ref should have probably stopped the game. And that is coming from a Bayern supporter.

Poor sportsmanship by Süle and a mistake by the ref, but Bayern deserved at least a point from the game.

I agree with you while fearing that it will get milked (looking at you, Süle!). I had a concussion myself from being hit by a basketball, so I share your sentiment.

Agreed on all points really

It doesn't take long to run from the position of the wall to the position in which Musiala scored. Look how much running back and forth Sabitzer had time to do. And Musiala was completely open, it definitely looked as if one person was missing there. Should have been ruled out, IMO. But in the end, Süle was fine and I don't think it is a scandalous refereeing mistake just something that highlights that head injuries still aren't taken seriously enough.

The first favourite takes the lead, Stuttgart 1-0 in Regensburg.... boring :annoyed:

Uh... the city that doesn't exist leads 2-0 against Freiburg. That would be a shocker :o

Yeees Musiala as false 9, I really, really think this could turn out absolutely great.

I was the first one to call it if It's the birth of "german Messi 2.0"!

 fecking hell.

Bayern in total control. Leverkusen have pretty much only long balls in their locker…..then Neuer does that….. fecking hell.

What a dunce.

It's sad to see Neuer become like this towards the end. I mean it took him 2 season ending injuries and getting to the age of 38 for it to happen, but it's finally happened.

Frimpong isnt in control of the ball and 2 defenders are around him, imo that's no red
Frimpong is faster and could take the ball with him. Deserved red for the stupidity of Neuer, but definitely a "soft" situation to get a red.

The line up from Leverkusen is ridiculously defensive. Would've hoped for more bravery considering Bayern exactly unbeatable this season.

Got a lucky break with that Neuer red card so hopefully they'll try to attack more.

He didn’t need to be, he was running on to it and if Neuer hadn’t checked him, he’d have been chasing onto a ball with an empty net in front of him. All he’d have to do is get a toe poke towards goal to score. By bodychecking him and taking him out, he has clearly denied a clear goal scoring opportunity as the last man.

What stupid is that, as you put it, he didn’t need to do it. It was going to be hard to get that under control and produce a composed finish past the keeper with two defenders breathing down his neck. Neuer just needed to come out to narrow the angle, but instead lost his marbles.
