Geoffrey Kondogbia

Was he the one who did a backheel to the goalkeeper from about 5 yards out?

Thought he looked very good. Stood out the whole game. His passing wasnt top notch though I felt.

We tend to whinge on about missing out on the players who move from smaller clubs to bigger clubs when they are gettable for relatively reasonable fees, like Vidal or Gundogan.

This fella could fall into that category.

He was good, but it wasn't the type of performance that would have made me rush to the redcafe Kondogbia thread. I mean, sometimes he got the better of Anderson, while other time Anderson just brushed him aside. He's a tidy player - played a few risky shit, maybe because he was trying to impress/they were 2-0 up/friendly. If I read correctly about the £8million fee, then I'd take him.

It won't be 8m, think closer to 15-20.

Reminds me of Phil Jones, not the greatest of passer, but was very good defensively and winning the ball off players.

Sevilla say that he won't be sold this summer and that if a club come in with the clause money they'll still fight to keep him. By "fight" I think they mean they'll talk to his agents, which brings us around to the related question of his ownership.

"We have made a deal with Doyen and Kondogbia will not leave this summer," says Del Nido.

No details on that deal but I'm guessing that means that the (Doyen) investment group think that it will do their investment no harm to spend another year at Sevilla.

Only watched him once playing - he gives the impression he s a bit clumsy.

Moyes’ French fancy: Kondogbia is new target for Manchester United

French starlet Geoffrey Kondogbia has emerged as a target for United as David Moyes continues his hunt for midfield reinforcements.Moyes has so far been frustrated in his bid to lure Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas to Old Trafford while there has also been speculation linking him with moves for Luka Modric and Marouane Fellaini.

Moyes has so far been frustrated in his bid to lure Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas toOld Trafford while there has also been speculation linking him with moves for Luka Modric and Marouane Fellaini.

Fellaini missed Everton’s final pre-season friendly against Real Betis on Sunday with what manager Roberto Martinez described as an ‘infected cut’.
Sevilla star Kondogbia, who can play in midfield or at centre half, would represent a cheaper option with the 20-year-old available for between 15m and 20m euros.

Kondogbia was linked with Real Madrid earlier in the summer, although that interest cooled after they signed Real Sociedad midfielder Asier Illarramendi for £24m.
However, Spanish newspaper Marca, which has close links with Madrid, reported last week that the La Liga giants are still keen to tie up a deal.

It also reported Madrid would have to pay a fee to private investment firm Doyen Group, who include Radamel Falcao in their list of clients, because they own 50 per cent of Kondogbia's economic rights – a stumbling block which could complicate any approach from United.

Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido insists he has no intention of selling just a year after signing the Frenchman from Lens, but with a buy-out clause in his contract, he may have no choice.
“Kondogbia is not on the market. But whoever wants him has to pay his 20m euros clause,” Del Nido said.

“But please, any team that tries to sign him – don’t. We will consider it an attack. I’ve already reached an agreement with Doyen and Kondogbia will not go this summer.”
According to sources in Spain, Kondogbia would rather wait a year before moving to one of Europe's top clubs but hasn't ruled out leaving this summer.

Talking about Madrid's interest in June he said: “I am flattered to be linked with Real Madrid. They are a top club, but Sevilla are fantastic for me at the moment.”
Kondogbia was part of France’s victorious squad at this summer's Under-20 World Cup in Turkey, earning him a call-up into the full squad for tomorrow's friendly against Belgium.

After watching United collect the first trophy of his reign with a 2-0 win over Wigan in the Community Shield at Wembley, Moyes revealed he was 'closer' to making his first signing.
He said “We're moving forward. Every day we get closer and the deadline gets closer as well.
“Hopefully we are, but if we aren't, I'm happy to go with what we've got.

Sevilla are saying they ain't selling him. Could tempt them with a 20m bid though, they are apparently in dire need of money

Let's see, in midfield we have only one defensive minded option, an injury prone Brazilian, a 40yr old, a Scotsman with a debilitating disease and Cleverley. Hmmm, well if we cannot give him a guarantee of game time under those circumstances, then I doubt we ever could! :D

Lest we forget Phillip Anthony Jones.

Srs though. I'd take Kondogbia. He looks promising. He was reported to have a very low release clause at the start of the summer, no?

£20m sounds a bit steep tbh.

If only we had a young French, up & coming & talented midfielder from the youth setup who could step up.

Oh wait, so now it'll cost fortunes to buy someone who isn't quite as good, when we could have spent an extra £1M a year on wages & eased the situation.

Alright, so it was a bit more complicated than that, but the general principle is still relevant.

As much as I want midfield reinforcements, do we see this kid as better than Cleverley?

I don't.. I understand they are different players, and Carrick can't play every game - so we could definitely use him. But I'm not sure I'd prefer him to partner Carrick than Cleverley.

I think he'd be a good addition, but I definitely don't think he's the answer to our problems. Better than nobody for sure, and a good one for the future, but I'm not sure he'd have much of an impact in this coming season.

I agree. He's more of a promising prospect than someone who will come in and solve our long term midfield issue. I think he could offer us a bit of steel right away, but aspects of his game need work.

Still, it'd be good to buy a player who's main criticism is "he needs to bulk up a bit". If he bulks up anymore, his neck will be wider than his head.

I dont know how good this guy is or will turn out to be but we should be signing up and coming CMs regardless of if we sign a modric or a Fabregas.

We need to look at Cm long term as well as next season.

We need quality players in midfield, and surely we need a defensive midfielder regardless if we sign Luka Fabregas (likely not). Is he better than Cleverley? I don't know, they are probably of the same quality, but Kongodbia is much younger and IMO much more potential, and anyway we need other midfielders there.

Apparently he can also cover CB and LB, for what that's worth.

He's co-owned by a third party or something apparently, so if someone is going to buy him, it may take more than just a formal transfer process i think

Rumours again that he will be sold this summer with Monaco believed to have offered 12m (rising to 15m) Euros and the Italian press saying that Juventus are looking at offering 18m.

With Fellaini looking like a good bet to be here soon...I doubt moyes has the slightest interest in kondogbia

You are just taking the piss I imagine? Arsenal putting a bid in for pogba would be like newcastle putting a bid in for oliver torres seem as pogba signed a massive deal extension I believe not long ago...arse could get kondogbia as he would be on the market but he'd go to juve or monaco over arsenal you'd imagine

Yeah, wasn't serious or anything but several rumours doing the rounds of an impending Arsenal bid for Pogba. However, the one thing that can happen if Juve are in for Kondogbia is them letting one of their CMs go. What with them already having Marchisio, Pirlo, Pogba, Vidal and Asamoah. Not that we'd be in for, say Marchisio. It's been a rather frustrating window

I'm surprised we aren't in for him. He's at a great age with plenty of development potential and comes with an affordable price. He and Pogba will probably be the two central midfielders for the next decade for France
