Biggest news website, second biggest print circulation after the Sun.

Might have something to do with the manifesto pledging to stop Leveson 2.

I'm pretty sure it's their celeb stuff that is behind their web numbers though. The infamous sidebar of shame.

Maybe the SNP should wait a generation after all...

Nothing like young beauties flaunting their toned pins to drive traffic.

For those that haven't read the tory manifesto there is something in it that has very little air time. Once you read it you will guess why.

This is what the manifesto says about the internet.

"Some people say that it is not for government to regulate when it comes to technology and the internet," it states. "We disagree."
The Conservatives will also seek to regulate the kind of news that is posted online and how companies are paid for it. If elected, Theresa May will "take steps to protect the reliability and objectivity of information that is essential to our democracy"

Yeah, they want to control the internet and what you read. If you are not freaking out by now, you fecking should be.

It also says this...

Which I think is weird because it's pretty easy to access violent and degrading porn on the high street. Just get your phone out.

But seriously, if you haven't twigged that Theresa May is a horrible authoritarian you haven't been paying attention.

How are they going to enforce that or fund new policing? "Tories to ban porn" that would certainly lose some votes

Politicians in general don't understand the limits of their influence in regards to the internet but this is particularly true of the authoritarian tories.

If the tories manifesto backfires and this becomes closer i hope Lib Dems have the sense to stand down in marginal seats.

So the whole storm around needing more immigrants and also Farron not knowing the costing.

BBC News, third story on their site is "Tory migrant target will be met sensibly'.

Well done BBC

Yeah, he's doing well broadly.

I thought his criticism of UK's generosity was was way out of line actually. Not only do other contemporary nations fail to meet even 0.7% target, but he fails to consider the individual donations made by people on a regular basis. Britons are in fact the fourth most charitably minded globally, behind only the US, Canada and New Zealand.

Yet he's ashamed of us.

Those are mainstream views for the Greens. And what he said was "I'm ashamed we're even having this conversation," if memory serves.

He's not going to win over the UKIP vote, but he was articulate and likely came over well to most that are likely to vote Green.

Godwin's Law - Every argument on the internet eventually culminates in comparisons to Hitler / Nazism

I don't think it works on everything, see sport, hobbies, techniques etc. It needs to be a moral/ethical discussion ideally about political leaders.

I've checked, and it was:

"I am ashamed of our country, when we spend 40% of our GDP and public expenditure on ourselves, the 5th largest economy, and can just about scrape together 0.7% for the rest of the world."

Nah, he's still a prick. Worse than Natalie Bennett too, who while being out of her depth at times nevertheless came over as a likeable person.

My bad, pretty sure he still said that later on though.

Theresa May intends to allow government to decide what is and isn't published, the manifesto suggests.

Quote from altodevil86 independant article.

No way the Tory Manifesto explicitly wants online censorship. Has anybody read the paragraph and is it phrased the way, that they want to start controls at the point of publishing? Retroactive control is already happening and to bully someone online surely must be forbidden in the crinimal code, same goes for terrorists communicating. What they actually want to do is widen surveillance.

Btw. is watching porn illegal in the UK?

We'll probably have the largest criminal population in the world if it is.

This country is in the gutter.

Thankfully, no, although the Coalition did stick its oar in there so far as British producers go.

Independent:
Senior Tories confirmed to BuzzFeed News that the phrasing indicates that the government intends to introduce huge restrictions on what people can post, share and publish online.

Neither our next government (there's be resignations from the cabinet) nor the Commons as a whole would pass 'huge restrictions' into law.

I wouldn't be so sure, the language from the tories in recent years has been about control and responsibility of Internet providers.

Some porn is, May brought in restrictions as Home Secretary on 'extreme porn'. Can't imagine anything happened because of it.

Why not? Who's to say the Tories wouldn't back it?

Because even if some would back it out loyalty to the leadership, there would exist plenty of rebels. When combined with opposition parties the numbers would very likely be insurmountable. We've seen the libertarian wing of the party play awkward before, don't forget.

Well yeah, but May's going to have a massive majority in a few weeks barring a Labour resurgence. The libertarian element of the party will be a problem, but to be honest it's probably nowhere near enough to stop May's agenda, especially when libertarian Tories won't want to undermine May as she pushes for Brexit negotiations.
