Gary Neville

I think Gary Neville's post match analysis was pretty unprofessional. Never seen so much made out of a missed penalty. Pogba has every right to step up and take it and Marcus seemed relaxed about the whole affair. Pogba looked gutted to have missed. Sometimes you score, sometimes you don't.

I honestly couldn't understand the fuss. There wasn't any mention of the sitter Jesse missed, of Dan James' poor decision making, just all on Pogba. I thought the team did well, it was a tough game and Wolves were very aggressive. Would have loved to have won but I think the fixation on Pogba and the penalty was way over the top.

G.Nev is a bit of a helmet sometimes, however, he's a TV pundit.
If he was being all save & non-controversial he wouldn't get the airtime or contract he has with Sky.

Much like some one here this guy just has an agenda against Pogba waits for him to do something wrong so he can talk shit. It's really sad. Crazy with Neville how when something goes wrong it's always a foreigners fault, be it Pogba, Martial, Lindelof, etc. Not a word about James diving or Lingard missing simple chance though. Funny thing aye? :wenger:

I was fuming with Pogba aswell until I seen that Rashford was a massive pansy and offered it to him

People talking about James diving, was that for the yellow card? He was clipped which made him fall over. Watch it again.

You didn't watch it live, literally as soon as the match finished it's all they talked about. He was steaming.

All he kept ranting on about was how it was disgraceful, and I forget the exact word he used but it was something along the lines of being a Judas.

Neville clearly hates Pogba, we saw that when Jose got sacked. This is bad for us as it's helping heap way more pressure onto the team, and Pogba himself.

If that was any other team they'd be discussing a good match that United should have won, but they'd be happy with a point. Instead he turned it into a personal crucade.

The thing is he actually realised after an advert break that he was clearly wrong and they started showing what happened with them on the pitch, and then Rashfords interview where he was calm and happy about the situation.

He MASSIVELY back tracked after that. Pathetic.

You can see why he hates Pogba surely?

Sometimes I think he says things to keep Carragher off his case, I know it's banter but Carragher can be cutting tw*t regarding Neville.

Even last night he couldn't resist a dig regarding Phil Neville in the stands.

Without foreign talent, his own club success wouldn't be the same. He is a hater at heart when it comes to certain players

I don't think its hate really but more of a mindset. He seem to think that the club's formula to success is to have a core of honest, hard working local grafters like Butt, Phil and himself who are then dragged to success by 4-5 other players who have the quality to make a difference. In Gaz mindset, no one can do the former role better then local talent who 'know and bleed for the club'. Foreigners are therefore only suited to do the latter job.

That kind of explains why he's absolutely livid when a foreign talent's mistake cost United points and why he didn't throwing a fit when Lingard missed a sitter. Lingard is erm honest, hardworking and....local. He's entitled to commit mistakes. Pogba is foreign, flashy and he earn big money. He needs to be super human.

Which is kind of a silly mindset really. Many keep mentioning the treble team. What they conveniently omit is how close we were of losing the treble because of one of Phil's trademark rash tackles in the box which handled Arsenal a penalty in the FA cup semi final. It was only thanks to Schmeichel (world class player) and Giggs (another world class player) who converted a brain fart into success. Neville brings today's Liverpool to the equation to show that this mixed system can still work. However we all know that Liverpool were outclassed by Shitty whose aim is to have quality in every position.

It was a massive overreaction from Neville and the rest of sky. Its not like Pogba has never taken penaltys before. Its not even like it was a particularly bad pen.

Personally, I'd want my entire team to volunteer taking a pen. Better that than shirking it because you're a pussy.

The racist abuse Pogba is getting is partly caused by people Like Neville and Sky. Who spent 40min going on about that penalty. As soon as the game ended Neville was ready to blame Pogba for everything. He didn't even care about the game, how well Wolves played in the second half. Neves scoring the goal of the season. It felt like they wanted Ole and Rashford to stitch Pogba up.

Fact is Pogba wanted to take the penalty. Backed himself but missed. It was not the worst penalty. good save. Rashford should be taking it but all this has nothing to do with Pogba and everything to do with Ole being naive and inexperienced. We have one outstanding penalty taker. Just let him take it. Ole needs to be manager no the players friend.

he didn't offer it, Pogba asked.

I don't know what Pogba said, but can see Rashford saying to him, "You wanna take it?" then throwing him the ball. Would have liked to have seen Rashford just grab it and take it. People blasting Neville but I felt exactly the same

People are blaming Neville for a huge overreaction over nothing.

Thats a big difference.

Gary’s problem is he is trying to be one of us as well as one of them. As one of us he gets emotional and his mouth runs off by itself. He really is a bit of a dick sometimes but the thread title is ott

People are going over the top here. He doesnt hate pogba. He even said yesterday pogba is his one to watch and could be player of the year.

It’s really pathetic from Neville given he’s lived through being a footballer and seen what Beckham, Ronaldo and his own brother went through when the media character assasignated then.

What has Phil Neville ever been targeted for, other than being a bit shit?

You can see why he hates Pogba surely?
Not really. All things considered, he comes off as a nice guy who, despite not getting the move he wanted, has acted like a true pro unlike some.

He got a lot of abuse after giving away a pen for England

Nope, not to this extend.

Ever since that tweet when Mourinho got sacked that showed his true colours. By all means he can dislike him as a player but he always makes it personal.

He didn't even wait to see the facts last night, he killed him and asked questions later - that's not on for a mainstream pundit. He lost his composure and made himself look embarrasing.

Even Carragher and the host were laughing at him

Congratulations Gary, I hope you're proud. Your idiotic reaction caused this.

I wonder what Red Nev’s view was when his nephew Harry Kane came back from months out to take Brazilian hat-trick hero’s place in the CL final. Did he think it was unprofessional or was it ‘he’s the main man, I don’t care, he plays’?

Moura did the equivalent of ‘score a penalty last week’ by getting a hat-trick in the semis. Kane did the equivalent of the ‘designated’ player reclaiming his spot as soon as he felt he should have it. He also did the equivalent of missing the subsequent penalty by turning in a poor performance in the final.

Did Nev rant about the choice to revert to Kane, or did he bang on about him being the ‘main man’.

All of this. Nice post.

What I absolutely hate about him is how he seems totally incapable of putting a lid on his emotions. And has no qualms getting personal either. Labelling this idiocy as passion is really just enabling him. Let grown men be held to grown men standards

Agreed.

He's an over-emotional clown when it comes to United games. He needs to be taken off them.

If anyone at Sky thinks this makes for good television they are deluded.

Has anyone got footage of the original rant, the one he went on before he realized his error during the ad break?

Glad I rarely have to listen to him thanks to other coverage available.

He stands out as going the extra mile to show he has no bias towards United and is extremely critical all the time. It's just so tedious.

I thought Rashford should've taken it but lets be honest he's only taken a small amount and managed to score, he could've missed last night as well or go on a run missing. Many top players like Shevchenko and Messi miss them.

We're also in a good position two games in and showing signs we can do well. Now is not the time to be lambasting players.

Can't seem to find it, even sky have cut it from the youtube video they posted. They obviously know it looks bad.

The fact he called him treacherous before learning that actually it was part of their plans was sheer lunacy

He may have started out that way but it feels like now he's reacting as a fan, rather than a pundit, and letting his emotions get the better of him.

I can't remember the particular game last year but it was during the down-turn towards the end of the season. He spent the whole game on co-commentary moaning about how he didn't like the players anymore. I had to turn the sound down - it was awful.

Last night was particularly bad, as 40 mins after the game they were still banging on about the penalty which was tedious. I ended up going to bed as they started the actual analysis of the game.

The thing is, he realised his error BEFORE the ad break. This is why I have such a problem with it. His entire rant was hypothetical. He basically thought he should, from the beginning, share what his views WOULD have been if he hadn’t indeed already checked what happened at the Chelsea game, ‘which we’ll show you after the break’.

The Chelsea comparison has already been made before his very first outburst. Just not shared with the audience, but he referenced it in his opening statement. In other words, he had disproven himself before he even started his rant, however, in his hateful rage, thought he’d let us all know that the ‘only reason he’s holding back on Pogba’ is because he already knows he’s talking shite. Otherwise, he’d have gone on a rant about how it was ‘typical selfish Pogba’, but of course, he’s not actually going to do that now, because he’s wrong. He’ll just instead go on about how bad it would have been IF something else entirely happened.

His big retraction also included him, about 15 minutes later, saying that ‘he’s not saying Ole is lying to protect Pogba’ (just like he was NOT saying Pogba took the penalty from Rashford, of course). He was just laying what things would have been like, and how angry he would have felt about it, if his imaginary theory was true. But he knew it wasn’t, from the very beginning.

Personally I do think Pogba should have stood aside, regardless of whether there was a protocol or not. Rashford scored the perfect penalty last week and he's missed loads.

That said, it seems Neville can't wait to pile into him. He knows it gets massive headlines and is great for his profile. Hopefully he feels a bit of a tit now and has a rethink.

I really like G Neville. He was a fantastic pro who eeked out every last drop of talent he had.

In his autobiography Sir Alex mentions that Neville would lie in wait for him in the morning to have a moan about this or that. He use to say to him 'not now Gary I am not in the mood for you today'. He also said he was a very loyal person so maybe some of the criticism against Pogba relates to his perceived lack of loyalty to the club/managers over the last couple of seasons.

Personally I don't think Pogba has let us down at all. I think he is a fantastic player but sometimes people get a bee in their bonnet about other people and perhaps that is all it is with Neville.

Come on you cant blame Gary for racist abuse. I think Gary loves United and has seen Pogba be respectful on a number of occasions, something that simply wouldn't be tolerated under Fergie, that's why he is as passionate as he is.

Gary is so dramatic especially when he speaks about anything United.

Unfortunately he's trying to be paid for his work by his employers and trying to say something nice about United to appease us United fans.

Congratulations Gary, I hope you're proud. Your idiotic reaction caused this.

Seriously? What a load of rubbish! Neville criticised Pogba, that was it. He didn't racially abuse him, didn't ask others too. Should he not criticise him, or any other black players, in future for fear a bunch of morons on twitter will start racially abusing them? Idiotic.

‘he’s not saying Ole is lying to protect Pogba’
Naturally, Solskjaer is lying to prevent Pogba, or if you want to put it in different terms, he's not telling the truth.

This is what he said:

“They are the two designated penalty takers,” he said. “The two of them are confident and good penalty takers. When there are two names there, it’s the one who is the most confident [who takes it]. Paul has scored many before so there’s absolutely no problem.

“Sometimes in a game you grow in confidence, sometimes [you think] ‘I don’t want to take it today because I had a bad game’. I’ve absolutely no problem with players walking up and saying ‘This is mine’.”
This is either the most stupid policy ever, or just an outright lie.

I would be extremely surprised if it's not an outright lie, but it's possible that they've decided to implement an unbelievably stupid system for deciding who takes penalties, I suppose.

Despite his ‘retraction’ at the very beginning, he still ENDED his analysis on the matter with this:

He s like most pundits..he knows he has to say something stupid in order to keep his job.

Missed a penalty. He took it because he won the penalty just as Rashford took his because he won it. It’s that simple, such an overreaction.
