Gareth Bale

Shows why some Madrid fans aren't a big fan of Bale.

Don't mind the sarcasm in the tweet, it's from a Barca fangirl. But the numbers don't lie. Infact his CL opponents are easier compared to Neymar's. I don't see how he is worth 140m. Good player, but no way worth that amount of money.

Umm.... yes he would. One of reasons di Maria was garbage in the latter stages of last season was because of his tendency to give the ball away. Yet the stat above shows that he has better passing accuracy than most of his attacking/creative counterparts. So, I'd say if we were looking for Bale to improve his P/A stats, then he'd have compromise creativity. Therefore, he'd struggle if he was to stray away from his normal game.

Di Maria didn't struggle because he gave the ball away, he gave the ball away because his form went to shite, his complete game was shot to pieces. You can look at stats until the cows come home, a player of Bales quality would slot straight into our team and improve it immensely.

Do not want (even before these statistics).

I just don't understand anyone that says they do not want Bale it's absolute madness to me.

Despite the crazy hype around him, he's worth about the same as Sanchez is. All the figures speculated regarding Bale always seem to be way over and above his abilities as a footballer.

Whoever says that is taking price into account, of course. Who wouldn't want him instead of Ashley Young?

Besides, he's clearly not attainable. He wants to stay. His president loves him.

I guess some feel he is overrated. I think he doesn't justify a 100 million price but is definitely among the worlds best wingers nowadays.

For people who are concerned with the price, it can be annoying that a long time ago we could've signed him for cheap from Southampton but he was more interested in spurs.

I agree that he's not attainable but that doesn't stop me wanting him and I still think it's mad not to want such a fantastic player that would elevate us to the next level.

I don't believe for one second he's overrated and I think if he was here he would prove that pretty quickly and really push us forward as a team. I agree that the price is very highly but if we have the money to spend then a winger of this quality should almost certainly be targeted.

It's not certain that he'll elevate us to the next level. He's not exactly a Ronaldo/Messi or even Nemar level player. But yes he could improve us a great deal. That being said Alexis Sanchez would also improve us. I definitely wouldn't want us to spend a 100 million on him. Players have a worth, and it's not "mad" to not want Bale for a fee he's not worth.

On current form I would agree however I'm of the opinion that at Utd with the freedom to play and being the top star of the team we could see unbelievable levels from him similar to the best players around (bar Messi and Ronaldo). If he could get to the levels I think he would step up to then he is easily worth that much money and ultimately if the club can afford that then why would you not want to the deal to take place if you yourself admit that he would greatly improve us.

I said could not would. No guarantees after all. He could be similar to what Sanchez has been for Arsenal - excellent. Then again, I believe Di Maria can do the same. I just don't rate him as highly as you do. So the fee does become relevant for me. 40 million? Yeah, go for it. 100 million? Move on.

We did overpay for Di Maria last season and contrary to what many here seem to believe we don't have an endless pot of cash. We do need to use our resources well just like every business does.

Problem is what Madrid bought him for. Similar to Lukaku. Bought for way over what his worth, meaning his next deal is going to cost buying club a lot.

I don't see his next move for a fair few years. He's very much in favor at the club and he seems to want to be there for awhile too. I think they're trying to make him the main man of the next team, and maybe have a better balance between him and Ronaldo this coming season.

But yeah, if we supposed he isn't favoured by the president, because he's been overpaid for it makes the next transfer even harder. Like Di Maria really who we overpaid for.

If we got Bale we'd win the league, he's that good. He's worth £100m as well, as a long term signing, guaranteed to succeed in the league, score many spectacular goals, is a football superstar, would sell a billion shirts and raise the profile of the club. He's still young and would be here for years. People said £80m was ridiculous for Ronaldo. Look at it in the long term, how much revenue has Ronaldo generated for Madrid? Could you even measure it? Bale is of that stature and would be immense for us for years. So yes I'm also baffled that ANY United fan wouldn't want him, unless they have a personal agenda against him or are funding the transfer out of their own pocket. It's all moot of course because I doubt Madrid would sell him for even £200m, but the questions over his supposed price tag are odd to me. The overall package you get with Bale is worth well in excess of £100m, Real Madrid knows this which is why they won't sell.

We all have our opinion and I do think bale is a class above Di Maria if I'm honest but I understand those that don't agree. I also realise that we are a business and that we can't just go about going crazy with money, however, if we were to sign a player like Bale that then went on to be an absolute superstar then we wouldn't need to spend this amount of money every year and could instead do what Chelsea do and sign one or two top players to keep the squad fresh. It's only in this period I believe lots of money needs to be spent. The final thing I would also say is that of the club feel they can afford to spend this much money on a played then clearly we are more financially strong that you realise because they wouldn't try and go for such deals of funds were tight.

Here here

At this moment, I'd rather we commit to hoping Depay becomes a world class player than sign Bale. We've invested a lot of money on the dutch youngster and should believe he'd give us these goals as a secondary forward that bale would do.

He could play on the opposite wing tho

Exactly, one of the biggest stars at Adidas playing for Utd in Adidas, it's a marketing mans dream, plus he won't want to bugger off to Madrid.

Yet he didn't guarantee Madrid success in the league the last two seasons. Even got hugely criticized last season.

I think he's a quality player. Any team would like to have him in their squad (except Barca). But I don't think any player on earth other than the big two would guarantee league titles in the premier league. It's not as if other teams don't have quality players. Chelsea have Hazard, Arsenal have Sterling, City have Aguero etc.

He'd first have to want to leave Madrid to want to bugger off back there :)

May be not this season, but I think it's inevitable.
If we're hell bent on signing him, and most noises say that we have wanted him for awhile, hopefully it happens very soon. Last thing we want to do is spend a humongous fee on a 29/30 year old Bale given he is very reliant on pace.

Ssshh! Mind you, more smoke to the fire that is why buy a CM who performed top 3 in the world and play him on the wing? Just don't understand that from someone who claims to buy for positions, rather than names, unless it was an Ed, Edd n Woodward signing.

I think that Van Gaal wanted Di Maria personally. It is just that Di Maria didn't adapt to his philosophy.

Who knows, reports are mixed, on the surface he wants to stay, but there are rumblings about him not settling and his agents rant at the end of the season. Even with the presidents backing I'm not sure he will survive another season like the last.

Sounds like the same hope that people hold regarding "bringing 'Ronnie' home".

EDIT: Sorry i thought you were referring to this season. Yeah, next season it could change. The fans certainly aren't on his side

There'd be a clash of roles. We'd need a really strong midfield to compensate for the lack of a deep attacker in the team and I don't see us having the best midfield in the league. Reckon sticking to a wide forward on one side and a wide playmaker on the other side would be beneficial to the team.
