Gareth Bale

I don't think anyone would doubt that Di Maria is world class, but I think Van Gaal's decision to use two strikers upfront and play with three at the back with wingbacks early last season messed him up. He had to play in the middle, and it just didn't work for him. This season it's probable that we'll play with Rooney as a loan striker, and Di Maria would be back on the wing.

Isnt that the problem though - Di Maria is regarded to have played his best football at Real, by playin in a midfield of 3 (floater) & not on the wing?

Di Maria was the better player at Madrid when the both of them were there. He also delivered 3 assists in el clasico that season where Bale did nothing. And he gave Bale a nice goal to head in from close range in the CL final after leaving two players 'for dead' with skill 'run real hard in a straight line when there is space' Bale could only dream of. He also won the MOTM in that very CL final.
and no need to throw all the crap on one guy to make sure everyone knows who the other guy is. both are class acts

3 great matches with di Maria playing somewhat at his level and everyone on here wanted to carress his balls. One season where he has struggled to adapt (not the only crap performer and still looking the most creative outlet) and he becomes a quick player with a cross on him every now and then. Christ, the standards of these posters on here are dropping hard and fast. It's the same mentality of those Madrid supporters wanting to kill Bale for a sub par season.

Give it a rest with the all high & mighty attitude ffs. You talk as much shite as anyone on here

He started centrally, but he always ended up on the wing. The key was the fact that he had room to roam around in the left-centre position, and was never really marked out of a game, as Ronaldo was playing as a wide forward and attracted far more attention. Also, when playing in midfield, he had Xabi Alonso and Modric protecting his defence as opposed to Herrera and Blind, last season.

Not sure how you can say that after the season Di Maria has just had, bale scores goals and ultimately that wins games and titles. Di Maria really had one amazing season where he was world class, he's not half the player bale is in my opinion.

Why compare Di Maria and Bale? They're very different players. it's like comparing Messi with Ronaldo. Di Maria is a tricky player, lightweight but skillful. Bale is a bull, still skillful but his game is about strength, speed and power. Besides, Bale is proven in the PL because he can deal with it physically, Di Maria is still coming to terms with it and may never adjust. I don't believe in breaking the bank for Bale though, he's worth more than Di Maria but not twice as much.

Look at the post above what I said about Di Maria. He is world class.
The Madrid team was set up perfectly for Di Maria, and his pace and crossing was outstanding in that season. And I agree that his poor season last season was probably due to the imbalances in our squad. Two upfront, and playing with wingbacks etc. When it comes to counterattacking runs on the wing and crossing, Di Maria is awesome. But Bale has more to his game. More power, speed, better shooting, free kicks, and powerful in the air.

You laugh and yet what did Di Maria so for us last year. If he was a good as people make out he would not be dropped for young and would have had us fighting for the title instead. Bale scores goals and goals win games that's basics of it and the reason why wingers like bale are always more expensive than wingers like Di Maria.

That was my point - he never played directly played on the wing, he floated..

You must be joking - his crossing was abysmal..

have watched back that 1st half game of madrid vs roma. they are playing on fire......

Ronaldo has 'more to his game' than Messi when you count facets of football. Doesn't mean he is close to as good as him.

Same goes for the one paced Bale vs Di Maria.

What goals did he score last season that won Real trophies?

Di Maria was their driving force in the 'lel decima' season. Bale's an overrated choking glorified turbomonkey

We could easily emulate that Real team with the additions we've made, to get the best out of di Maria. It all depends on LvG and how he chooses to utilise him.

Absolutely. The options we have now, were beyond our wildest dreams 2 seasons ago. Some massive upgrading been done in this transfer window than in previous seasons & we're not done yet either man..

I defended ADM for the past year and I still believe he's an exceptional player. However Id choose Bale over him at any time. He is more suited for the EPL.

Bale better and more effective than ADM and I'm shocked some people think otherwise. Even ADM at his best do not compare to the things Bale can do. Bale has a better shot, better header, better at free kicks and crosses, faster, stronger and I think ADM is probably only better at dribbling. Proven in 2 leagues too.

The only added value of Bale would be that he is Welsh and somehow a EPL iconic star. Di Maria at his best his far better, and I hope he can find back his confidence to deliver a fantastic season. The Di Maria of his last year at Real Madrid deserves to be Manchester United #7.

Never known such a bunch of whinging idiots on this forum.
120M euros for Gareth Bale is nothing to United. The amount of excitement it would cause, and the optimism for all our sponsors worldwide, not to mention his marketing value, we'd get that money back in a year.
People here need to drag their arses out of the dark ages and wake up to the amount of money coming to this club. £95M = nothing to United compared to what a signing like Bale will give us.

It's not about what this amount means to United as indeed, the financial power is there. But that is not a valuable reason to pay Real Madrid the amount they want just to show off. It's a business and the reason why United has been so successful over the years was that coupled with the success on the field was also equally important the control of the books and the P&L. United is a powerful brand, it should be a successful team on the field, players should fight to come here, and lower the price point, even from Real Madrid. That's how it should work. Right now, it's a transition time and it's a bit fuzzy, but some people seem to forget what excellence means.

All of this goes without saying. Of course we must be financially shewed to not just throw money away, but ultimately if a player who's guaranteed to be a massive asset in the pursuit of success is available, we have to get him. And £95M is nothing to United, if that's what it came down to.

Only in United forums I see so much excitement about Bale. Probably you guys have seen something others failed to notice. Even some Madrid fans seem to be very critical of him.
If there was indeed a 100m+ offer by United, that's beyond ridiculous. Infact James is a better player, much more technically sound and better football brain.

Enjoy Messi, Neymar and Suarez while you have them. Quality players like that are now very difficult to find, and harder to sign. If Bale was fulfilling his potential currently at Real, United wouldn't have a sniff, but one average season by his standards, and Real fans want blood. Rodriguez is indeed an great player, but Bale is proven in the premier league. Single handedly almost put Spurs in the Champions league a couple of seasons ago. Saw you guys off in the Spanish cup last year as well with a great performance.

The thing is RM don't need money either. Perez will lose his job if gets rid of Iker and he sells Bale and doesn't adequately replace him with a new toy, and Hazard/Reus isn't available. They haven't given up on Bale, he's still a galactico and very important for their income aswell. They want to make him the main man and have no interest of selling him, that's why they demand a fee even we won't pay as it won't be financially profitable for us. To top this off we need a striker and not a winger like Bale.

The club will continue to follow Bale for sure in case he's open to a move to Manchester, but RM and the player have made clear that won't be this transfer window.

Without doubt, Di Maria is a class player. Most of us would love Di Maria to stay and be a success. However, he might not want to be here next season. I'd rather not have an unhappy player.

Bale would be a great replacement.
He would be the perfect replacement, I cant understand why he would stay at Real Madrid. The fans dont rate him and have voiced this publicly, Ive been in their forums and theres a thread dedicated to how much they hate him. If the money being quoted is right £85m then I think their is better options for the money, we could throw the same amount at Bayern for Muller and might have a chance of getting him.

Everyone's available at the right price, and with Benitez trying to form the team around Bale, he's trying to maximize what the team can get from him, but if it simply doesn't work, they need to pursue other options quickly.
There's only a slim chance at best of us signing Bale in this window, but money won't be a factor in it where we're concerned.

I have spent ages looking for a left footed RW in the footballing world & today out of all days; has lead to one of them joining a rival.

Patrick Roberts has gone. IMO van gaal isnt the type just to buy the best players but also has the heart and dignity of the club in his head.

Both patrick roberts & gareth bale are homegrown and mean much more to us than simply meeting a quota. It's a sign of achievement; to take the sometimes overated youngsters of the BPL & create a world class team with them not only benefits us but the national team. This is something van gaal will be preoccupied with for his own targets & how he wants to be viewed when he retires.

I'm telling you that the reason Patrick Roberts has gone to City is because Bale is coming to us. Though he is Welsh; our club has a big big history with players from all British & Irish nations.

If anyone thinks im crazy; go find a left footrd RW & you will come to the realisation that this is a very very hard thing to find and happens to be that our homegrown players are the most viable at merting up to van gaal's philosophy.

Welcome Gareth Bale!

I hope you're taking the piss.

Don't see it happening this summer.

Hope he is awful again for them this coming season though.
