Gareth Bale

I hope you're taking the piss.

Find a naturally left footed RW; then tell me i'm joking.

At the top theres Robben & Bale before you reach the unfufilled promises of players like Roberts & Ould-Chik.

People who just assume Di maria is a out and out RW may know how to have a good team with all the best players in the first xi but theres a reason why mata hasbeen playing there. His inclination to cut in & utilise his left foot plays to his natural strengths. Not only that but this type of play is what van gaal regards to as his tactics.

So when an highly rated english prospect at the age of 17 transfers to a rival; you have to assume we are aiming for someone better.

Bale is the one player that I can think off who will be targeted equally by both van gaal and woodward.

Di Maria played about half his matches at RW in his last RM season.

Di maria the winger is a much sub par player than the one who plays centrally. We all remember him in particular playing central overlapping whichever side was cutting in; be that ronaldo or bale; especially in the finals. The di maria we looked at then was the 3rd best player in the world; not the winger.

I mean bud; you know about depay, he isnt some extremely capable assister of the ball; he is a forward.

Likewise; it makes no sense with playing a forward on the left and a crossing/assisting winger on the right. For all the times mata played on the right; we were looking for goals not crossers; thats why players like falcao & RVP struggled because they were constantly up against the team movement.

However, 3 forwards operating on 3 points in the field is much more of a unit.

Either way; since you know alot about van gaals philosophy; do you rekon a left footed RW is important to him or not? It might not be united's most important position to strengthen but when the job is done, IMO this is something he will be looking at.

Never known such a bunch of whinging idiots on this forum.
120M euros for Gareth Bale is nothing to United. The amount of excitement it would cause, and the optimism for all our sponsors worldwide, not to mention his marketing value, we'd get that money back in a year.
People here need to drag their arses out of the dark ages and wake up to the amount of money coming to this club. £95M = nothing to United compared to what a signing like Bale will give us.

 Well said man

Why should we be spending that much on Bale? The fans hate him and blame him for everything that went wrong last season. They also believe he is the one keeping players like Isco and James out of the team. He had a poor last season by his standards considering the team he plays for and the support he has, he doesnt even track back anymore. We have Angel Di-Maria and we are being offered less for him to go to PSG, why should we have to pay more than Bale is worth? We have the money but it wont be around if we make purchases like this and then if it doesnt work we sell next year for a loss. If he is available then I believe its because Bale wants to leave, if thats the case then we hard ball Madrid and offer £65m for him, fair amount for the hype that he would bring to Old Trafford.

For £95m I would rather it was distributed around different teams for players we need, defender (Otamendi), winger(Pedro) and a striker(Muller/Gotze). No point giving Madrid £95m to go and strengthen their team with.

Remember Hughes at Barcelona? Or Rush at Juventus?
Some people are just meant to be in the prem. Bale is such a person.

Kudos brother well said. Bale is not only meant for the PL but also united. If we were willing to spend 80mil before then i see no reason why we shouldn't bid a similar amount. He hasn't regressed one bit.

Infact if he joined us; i rekon he did us a favour going to madrid first instead of going afterwards.

Look at his goals from 12/13 and then find me similar goals he scored last season. Hint - You wont find any of the same caliber.

Bale is to Redcafe what Pogba is to Bluemoon. They love Pogba over there and are utterly convinced if (more like when) he came to the Prem he will only sign for them. People love Bale in here and cannot be shifted from it.

Still think he is available?

Di Maria was never the 3rd best player in the world. Ffs.

To be fair they have to move from Ronaldo who will be 31 this season and Bale is the obvious choice.

Neuer; Lahm; Ramos; Godin; Alaba; Robben; Kroos; di Maria; Messi; Ibrahimovic; Ronaldo.

(Team of the year, as per UEFA)

Bar Messi and Ronaldo, who's the obvious players who had a better season than him? Do remember that he was the star performer in the CL final as well as having a great game in the Copa Del Rey final.

Have a look who he supports then think about who he could possibly mean. It's irellevant anyway.

At his peak in that last season for Madrid, he was up there with Ronnie and Messi

I've heard a couple of Bale rumours. I'd be very surprised, seeing as Madrid put him front and centre in their recent ad campaign and they keep mentioning how important he is.

Ronaldo is more likely at this stage, not that I think we'll get him either.

The last statistic is very, very interesting. All these so called "flair players" seem to compromise passing accuracy in order to be more potent in their creativity.
I've said it before, under LvG, even Bale would struggle to fit in the so called philosophy.

Bale would not struggle at Utd, philosophy or not.

He was voted Argentinian player of the year ahead of Messi too. It was like the first time in six years that Messi hadn't won it.

Ssshh! Mind you, more smoke to the fire that is why buy a CM who performed top 3 in the world and play him on the wing? Just don't understand that from someone who claims to buy for positions, rather than names, unless it was an Ed, Edd n Woodward signing.

Robben is 2 classes above di maria

Hardly a surprise though, creative passing includes taking risks, sometimes passes don't work and it looks bad, but the 1 that does creates a goal. I would rather have 5 bad passes and 1 goal than 20 safe passes and 1 goal.

I understand retaining possession but the forwards should be allowed to be creative and not worry about losing the ball.

It's not even that he takes risks. I just don't think that Di Maria's a very accurate passer.
He's certainly not in control as somebody like silva, but I think he can be accurate enough to not become a problem.

We need a replacement as the face of the club for Rooney, and I'm fairly certain the club would want him to be British, preferably English.

Out of the realistic options over the next few seasons, that leaves Bale or Kane I'd imagine as the two currently.

If Di Maria does go (which he won't), we should just spend the fee getting Bale.

I have spent ages looking for a left footed RW in the footballing world & today out of all days; has lead to one of them joining a rival.

Patrick Roberts has gone. IMO van gaal isnt the type just to buy the best players but also has the heart and dignity of the club in his head.

Both patrick roberts & gareth bale are homegrown and mean much more to us than simply meeting a quota. It's a sign of achievement; to take the sometimes overated youngsters of the BPL & create a world class team with them not only benefits us but the national team. This is something van gaal will be preoccupied with for his own targets & how he wants to be viewed when he retires.

I'm telling you that the reason Patrick Roberts has gone to City is because Bale is coming to us. Though he is Welsh; our club has a big big history with players from all British & Irish nations.

If anyone thinks im crazy; go find a left footrd RW & you will come to the realisation that this is a very very hard thing to find and happens to be that our homegrown players are the most viable at merting up to van gaal's philosophy.

Welcome Gareth Bale!
Buttland gone to Stoke a few years ago. We're obviously signing Neuer to replace De Gea then.

Umm.... yes he would. One of reasons di Maria was garbage in the latter stages of last season was because of his tendency to give the ball away. Yet the stat above shows that he has better passing accuracy than most of his attacking/creative counterparts. So, I'd say if we were looking for Bale to improve his P/A stats, then he'd have compromise creativity. Therefore, he'd struggle if he was to stray away from his normal game.

We won't get Bale. I don't think Real Madrid wants to loose 2 of their most flamboyant players to us in 1 year. That'd be a big blow to their prestige as the biggest club in the world.

We are even more likely to get Ronaldo I think.

Regarding LVG:s "surprise": if this happens I don't think it will be a surprise that no one here saw coming. Litterally EVERY player worth signing has been discussed here :)

If we get Otamendi or Pedro that might count as a surprise in his mind.

I also think that LVG differs a lot from SAF in terms of transfer talk. I don't think SAF would have spoken so openly about the future of Di Maria for instance, for good or bad. Even when there was an agreement that he would let Ronaldo go in one year SAF publicly said he "wouldn't sell Real Madrid a virus".

What I mean to say is that LVG saying that there might be a surprise doesn't have to mean he has something big going on which is quite likely to happen. He said something like "and maybe a surprise, you never know" and he probably meant just that. There can be a surprise signing before deadline day, we never know.

Yep he's a sensational midfielder. Absolutely fantastic there for Madrid and at the start of the season for us, a real shame that Van Gaal so quickly decided to stop playing him in his best position.

I remember our last game of the season when he was named in the XI and from the team it looked like he was going to be back in midfield. Everyone got really excited but then it turned out Ashley Young was playing in centre midfield for probably the first time in his life and Di Maria, man of the match in the CL final a year previous, was out on the wing.

Maybe when LVG says "surprise" he means a surprise for him as well - Woody hasn't told him who we're signing yet!

Sell Di Maria for 40M and splash 90M on monkey face , madness . The welsh chimp is massively overrated and would not fit our possession game , please no .
