Gareth Bale

Love Bale here, I know he probably wouldn't suit LvG style but still think he'd do brilliantly at United.
Imo Woody wants him, but very much doubt Madrid will part with him. I reckon they'll give him he more season to prove his doubters wrong

grizemann scored like twice as many as bale last season

Bale can score no goals next season and some will still have him in the top 5 players in the world. Bottom line is he hasn't performed for two seasons now.

Griezmann played as a LW and a LS? Didnt he? A striker is bound to score more. Either way, atletico has a fantastic ability in creating strikers showed by the rise back to some sort of form for torres.

Mostly, yes.

But if you were to look at the current form as well as the ability of the two, right now Griezmann is ahead. Bale definitely regressed after last year after his two great seasons before that, and it's not easy to step back into the peak of your game in an instant; whereas Griezmann's stock is continually rising, so we don't even know if we have seen the best of him yet after such a fantastic season.

i see your point, but its not like bale compensated in other ways last season..
also, madrid creates about 50 more chances per game than atletico, so there's also that..

There is zero chance of signing Bale.

RM have no interest in selling him and it doesn't look like he is keen on a move yet let alone willing to push for one.

What some of you are missing is Bale usually has muscle injuries, quick players tend to suffer from these more often. Say what you want about Rooney but unless he breaks a bone, he is always fit.

Who's first Di Stefano?

Well thats who I had been thinking of.. he's always spoken of as their best player when winning several European cups in row.
but I've no clue who actual Real fans would deem their greatest player.

If we keep bumping this thread, will the cafe get into a BaleON muppet signing frenzy as Transfer D-Day approaches?

28 goals and 21 assists in 58 La Liga games is really poor.

Perhaps more shocking is his record of 8 goals and 5 assists in 22 Champions League appearances.

Let's save him the embarrassment of not mentioning the winning goals in the Copa Del Rey or Champions League finals either.

He's been shambolic for Wales as well. Just the 5 goals and 2 assists from 6 Euro qualification games so far.

You're right he's done feck all for 2 seasons.

The problem is, people are rating him close to Ronaldo which he is nowhere near. His best season is still 12/13...

Yeah he is rated as their best ever by many people, though i don't know how many of their fans actually seen him play on a regular basis. Not many i would wager.

I reckon by the time he retires though Ronaldo could be thought of as their best ever player.

Bale was meant to play for united.

The fact he struggles at madrid doesn't mean he will be shit for us. I doubt giggs would have lit up the bernabeau; and yet thats not taking anything away from giggsy being our legend.

It's kind of hard to explain why i guess; but i like to think any top 10 world class player from England, Wales, Ireland, Northern Ireland, should generally play for us and it has alot to do with continuing our history.

Griezmann is class. However there will be another player we lust over similar to him next year or the year after. How long do we have to wait until we find the next classy player from wales?

I believe that the guy in and around his natural surroundings can be better. He has easily been the most successful British Aisles export & that says something because nearly all of them struggle. He would have done us a favour going to madrid first tgan going after joining us.

Seem to have struck a nerve that you spent that much time writing and researching his stats. You're making it out like his stats are brilliant, I know I'd expect a hell of a lot more for ~€100m R.Madrid splashed out on him.

It took 5 minutes thanks to whoscored.

You said he hadn't performed, which is totally incorrect and a baseless anti-Bale stance.

They are brilliant stats. You'll struggle to find many outside of Messi and Ronaldo who can match them over 2 seasons. The footballer of the year in this country can't match him, for example.

Anti-Bale  Off the top of my head Benzema, Neymar, Griezmann, Carlos Vela and Bacca probably have records which aren't too far off. I reckon James probably put up similar numbers to Bale last season despite joining a new club and picking up an injury last season. He also plays deeper than Bale so helps control the game more than someone like Bale who is more of an impact player.

When you spend that kind of money I'd expect C.Ronaldo numbers not merely good ones. So on that basis he hasn't performed.

Griezmann is not in Bale's league you are anti-Bale for the simple fact you bring up the names Bacca and Vela. What an insult.

Actually there is a chance.

The fans don't rate him. The majority of them. He constantly gets booed. There would be no major riot if they sold him. Perez rates him though and he doesn't seem too keen to leave (yet). Let's wait and see.

Too late in the window. Surely they'd want a galactico replacement if they sold him.

Yeah but it is Perez who decides who to sell not the fans.

Some bizarre anti-Bale talk on here and some strange over exaggeration. You can be critical in the sense that he maybe hasn't hit the heights he might have sice moving to Real Madrid. That's fair and balanced criticism. A lot of this isn't.

That stat posted sometime in the recent past about Hazard and Bale sums it up. Whilst stats arent the be all and end all, his output was as good as (if not slightly better than) Hazard - yet Hazard is a star and Bale is vastly overrrated?

The simple fact is the skill set that Bale offers is made for the Premier League and made for a side lacking pace, creativity and (at times) width. This suggestion that he can't play in Van Gaal's system is lazy. He offers exactly what Depay could offer if he kicks on, and what he showed the other night - direct running, assist, a constant goal threat and the ability to put teams on the back foot and create space for others.

He's better than anythingw e have right now and as a young man, in peak physical condition there is nothing to suiggest that he wouldnt come back to the PL and get back to what he was before he left. And for all of the criticism he gets for some, I wonder how many managers around Europe would take him. I suspect its the vast majority of them.

Looking at the actual playing styles Bale fits RM better than us. I still think Bale will replace Ronaldo as their major player within the next 1 or 2 seasons.
The only chance of us getting him is that Real go for Reus etc.

The (top) players I like to sign in order:

1. Muller
2. Reus
3. Griezmann
4. Bale
5. Gotze

I think that Bale is still better than Griezmann but would prefer Griezmann cause he is a United fan and from Atletico to United would likely feel as a step above, while on the other side Bale chose Madrid instead of us and we can have in our hands a Di Maria situation again. Add to that the costs of the transfer, and I genuinely think that Bale without speed would be completely useless so it would be an extremely expensive signing for the years he'll give us.

i dunno, with bale it just seemed like he was always meant to play for us.

I would take griezmann though, highest la liga goal scorer behind messi and ronaldo right ? Such a crazy eye for goal.

Isn't Griezman the only real striker on that list anyways? If we are looking for a striker than Bale, Götze, Müller and Reus all aren't really first choice options. We need someone to replace the old man up front. I know he isn't an old man but he plays like one these days.

Why are you comparing strikers to Bale?

Suarez hasn't put up anywhere near Ronaldo or Messi numbers, has he underperformed as well?

Your logic is not logical at all, it's ridiculous.

I don't know why people keep saying he was meant to play for us. It's probably solely based on the fact that theyre huge fans and he's welsh and quick. You'd think that with such destiny with regards to him and us he'd be less happy at Madrid.

It's like a kid with an impossible dream who keeps telling himself it's meant to be.

Im just speculating but I reckon this one will happen on the condition that we qualify for CL, that's reason why de gea not played. This is just a guess.

I would be over the moon if we signed him, I still have hope that we will but only a small hope. If we were to offer them a crazy amount like the reported 100 million then they will have to think about it, surely they would. To make a profit on him and when he hasn't lived up to their expectations would be good business for them. A deadline day Bale surprise would be wonderful, they get their De Gea and we get our Bale.

That would be nice, it does have some logic to it too.

Bale and Memphis would transform our attack, who couldn't get excited about that, it would be up there with the best.

Bale is Perez' "next Ronaldo" project. They are moving him centrally where he apparently feels most comfortable and slowly building the side around him. I'd go as far as to say that Ancelotti got the sack solely because Bale didn't perform under him. Perez wants this badly. Bigger chance of Ronaldo leaving than Bale at this point. There might be a small chance next summer if Bale flops again like last season but at that point you'd have to ask if it would be so clever to buy a player who has flopped for 2 consecutive seasons and possibly have another Di Maria situation at hand, for even more money at that, just because he scored some long rangers a couple years ago at Spurs.
