I would say 100m is too much for him. If the year was still 1999. Times have changed, the amount of money in football has changed, and players are worth however much teams are willing to buy or sell them for (and if the club has money). United certainly do

He helped Madrid win the CL and the domestic cup when he signed, im sure madrid fans at the time said he was worth the 85m or whatever it was. Even last season, his numbers were pretty good despite the outcry and the madrid fans turning on him.

Would love him at United.

It's odd that if he's not for sale at any price, and a firm fixture for next season, that he's playing out of position.

Could it be that they're easing him out? A big bid imminent and they want the fans onside?
I think he prefers to play centrally which he did today. recently They (AS) did a survey and only 7% of the fans wanted bale over Isco/James in #10 role. I don't think fans will care much if Madrid sell him.

I wanted Bale at the start of the summer. Now I'm oddly intrigued by Pedro, Rooney and Memphis lining up as a front three. There's a lot of different styles there, that is they mesh they could be lethal. Especially with our midfield behind them. Its only the centre backs I'm worried about this year. I wish we'd focus on getting someone in to sort that out, because we look a good team otherwise.

I said his returns in La Liga are 3rd best. Only Messi and Ronaldo better him, which is probably true.

You didn't really clarify that. Even still, I'd imagine Neymar, Griezmann and Benzema all better or equal him.

Yeah, they're drawing us in to bid for him. It'd be best for both parties to be honest. We'd be getting a player who's attributes suit the Prem and they'll be getting a wedge of Euros to pay towards the redevelopment of the Bernabeu. Everyone's happy. Even Bale's mum.

Based on the last two seasons, as that is what Bale is judged on here and not including the obvious two:

Benzema
63 games, 32 goals & 19 assists (51)

Bale:
58 Games, 28 goals & 21 assists (49)

Neymar:
48 games, 31 goals & 15 assists (46)

Griezmann:
60 games, 38 goals & 4 assists (42)

Not too shabby at all for someone who as considered crap last season.

Tbf Di Maria was one of the best players in the premier league in terms of returns.

Yep very true and he is still a good player, is he not? He just didn't play to his abilities in the second part of the second.

Great players can put in poor performances and still be match winners with one moment of magic.

Vela in 12/13 and 13/14 had 14/12 and 16/13 goals/assist respectively in La Liga. (55) in total. (41) if we count the last two seasons, but last season he played a lot less.

Suarez scored 16 and assisted for 17 just last season.
James 13/13. Both better than his first season.

Neymar has 31 goals and 19 assists according to transfermarkd.

Griezmann 7 assists.

In other words he's behind Benzema, Neymar(less playing time same totals), Messi, Ronaldo and Suarez and James had only one season, but even with that in mind Suarez is only 17 behind.

Bale 22 assists according to the same source.

In any case he's not top 3 in any case, shape or form.

If we count just last season:

James, Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez, Griezmann, Benzema, Nolito, Bacca, Aduriz, Garcia all have better totals than him, so he doesn't even make top 10.

After today's game.

It’s my best position,” Bale said. “When I played for Tottenham, I felt I played my best football there and when I play for Wales, I play there and play my best football. For me, that’s my position and it’s where I want to play.

“I’m able to go out to the left and the right, and it’s what I was doing at Tottenham and what I do for Wales. It’s great to have the support of the manager and the president [Florentino Perez] and, hopefully, I can repay them with some goals and trophies.”

 He seems very aware of his role among the Madrid politics and he knows exactly who arenon his side.

He was crap last season, you're focusing too much on output.

Bale at number 10 with Ronaldo infront will be a disaster. It worked at Spurs because he was better than everyone else so got to do whatever he wanted. Most of the times i'd see him everybody would be making good runs for him only to try and find a way to get a shot off. Ronaldo will not be happy at all. Either that or Bale plays unselfishly and is just there to supply Ronaldo but either way you are not going to see the best of one of them.

Next year Madrid will need to freshen things up. I think they will need to make a decision whether they want Bale or Ronaldo and in the end I think it will be Ronaldo who goes.

After today´s game against Tottenham the press is being hard with Bale and his position. They say that is not good enough to play there and some fans are already saying that he can be in the middle...of the bench  . I wonder what Florentino is thinking right now

Hoping to sell him to United for £49m.

How did you line up today?

I think that James is already the most important player in Madrid after Cristiano. He should be #10. Isco is great but tactically and defensively James is better. I am not too worried about the positions of attacking midfielders, if they have skills and know to pass the ball they will change positions

Going to be honest - I'd be delighted if we were after Bale, even the £100million wouldn't phase me in the slightest. He's clearly built for the PL and I think would be a perfect match for us.

I'd of course be happy with Pedro, but I am secretly hoping we flex our financial muscles on this one.

If £100m was enough we'd have him by now as I reports say we've already made an offer of that magnitude. I'd love him here but it's a total non-starter. He doesn't appear to want to leave, and Madrid don't want to sell. If he has a bad season then maybe it could happen next summer.

Yeah I concede its not very likely, still with almost a month left in the market crazier signings have happened :)

Tell you what, Madrid/Perez are trying everything to please him and play him where he wants to play. If/when he doesnt workout, he cant have much to complain about. Why anyone would even consider to shift Ronaldo from his fav and most rewarding position, I will never know.

If reports are to be believed and we have made multiple bids then its clear Woody wants him, hopefully he will go back with a bigger offer. If the club are willing to pay what it takes and think its acceptable then I'm not going to complain.

Playing Bale as the #10 when Isco and James are on the wings is crazy. Itd be like us playing Memphis as a #10 and putting Mata on the wing.

It is probably worse. LVG at least thinks that may work and actually he has a history of weird decisions which worked (and many who didn't). On the other side FSW is forced to do so because their lunatic president wants his transfer record to actually succedd there, and doesn't care if that disrupts the team.

Yeah, atleast here it's the manager making the calls.

I watched the game and he did get a goal, but he looks really uncomfortable in the position, receiving the ball with his back to goal and trying to find angles to keep the attack flowing is not his strength.

Agreed, James or Isco could do better playing with his back to goal. Hopefully the experiment will end soon. The problem after that will be to change his position to the left without annoying Cristiano.

He may not be worth 100m in terms of performances but he definitely would be if you factor into marketability. If he joined us he would become the biggest superstar in the league.

Couldn't he just play as an inverted winger on the right? He did it pretty successfully for Spurs.

He(and the board) doesn´t want to play there anymore. He did it last year and many games he looked isolated. Today ABC writes an article about Bale saying that in his 10#role he looks like a horse in a living room. Here the fans and the press want to see San Siro´s Bale/Copa del Rey final , on the left and running.
I think the problem with this guy is the transfer fee. It would have been better to pay 50 million and the rest , until 100 in bonuses for goals, titles , individual trophies ... He would have much less pressure , but now everyone ( including him and his agent ) consider that the only thing that counts is the star role

:)

This could be a big problem for Madrid. They are building their team around the wrong player due to the demands of the president. Bale is already unpopular with their fans and if they have a bad season then the knives will be out for both of them.
