Gareth Bale Transfer Speculation | Done

We can safely assume he'll end up at Real Madrid one day though, like we experienced with Ronaldo if they want their man they'll get him sooner or later and he's not going to spend the rest of his career with Spurs. If they're really offering £85m it'll happen this Summer.

As stupid as ranting because somebody says Bale isn't worth breaking the world record fee for? They could simply get him to force his way out if he wants the move that much.

Ranting? Stupid? I responded to a post you made on a forum, what did you expect?

And if you think your last statement is true, you dont know how Levy does his business.

What Bale did last season is very unlikely to be repeatable. He may score more goals, but he won't score as many crucial goals out of nothing. I don't want to say he got lucky, but I think randomness and adapting defenders will cut out most of the wonder goals. If United had got 100 points last season, would you expect us to equal it this year?

However Bale is obviously a talented player and will adapt to this, perhaps scoring goals more associated with a typical centre forward.

I don't think his set of skills fits the bill of a centre forward to the same extent Ronaldo's did. I cannot see him turn into the same sort of player.

Could we seriously bid 85 million for a player? I think this RM bid, if true, makes a mockery out of our we can compete with anyone and there is no budget rhetoric. I bet we can't bid on a player like this. I dont think Bale is worth half that price tag btw.

We cannot compete with the likes of Real, PSG and Monaco. I dont think any other club can either though.

I was talking about the awards, though that wasn't clear in my post. As for Bale's record in big games, let's actually take a proper look. He played Chelsea twice and didn't score or assist. This is using your flawed logic of looking at goals to say that he turned up, which is a bit absurd. In both games, I remember him looking out of depth, plus Adebayor was the best player on the field in the second league encounter between Chelsea and Tottenham. Against us, he scored one goal at Old Trafford - I'll give him that, but his performance was hardly impressive. In the second encounter, Jones and Rafael nullified his threat. Remember, Bale reverted to taking lone range shots (almost scored with one of them). Against Manchester City (away), he looked poor. Spurs were poor throughout. In the second game, he was immense (one goal and one assist). He scored two in two against Arsenal, one in the loss, and the other win in the 2-1 win. Make sure you remember the context, that I'm clearly referring to the awards (you know that now) so that means that some of these performances don't count...

He literally didn't turn up against Chelsea at home because his girlfriend had a baby, so you've just made something up in your own mind or something there. Maybe check the facts next time?

How is there even a debate whether Bale was the best player in the league last season? It was debatable until the last two months, he was by far the best player during the crucial part of the season. He might not be worth £85m but he was better than Suarez and van Persie.

Because he's going to Real Madrid and not coming to us. If he was, then we'd all be saying how we were signing the league's best player for the second consecutive summer.

Nope. Likely those who think that he's the best in the league would have said that, and those who doesn't think that would have said that we are signing one of the best players in the league. Being cynic doesn't make you smart or funny.

Because if they could, they'd have been in for the likes of Cavani, Falcao and even Bale this summer. Both of them needed a striker, 2 of the best ones in the world went for top dollar to France. One of the best players in the league is now under bid from Spain, no reports of either club being interested. Atleast publicly.

This £85 million is a "Sky sources" figure and not confirmed, right? I mean it is completely and totally ridiculous?

85m for Bale is madness. He's a great footballer, no question about it, but the galactico gambit didn't work when Real went down the road several years ago and it's not going to get them any closer to a La Liga or CL title this time around. It's not that they shouldn't spend big for a player they need, but they just don't need a Ronaldo clone. The pitch isn't big enough for two players who are so similar in approach to the game.

But it IS a statement of intent by Perez, which is probably all that really matters.

However, if acquiring Bale is part of a plan to allow Ronaldo to leave, because Ronaldo wants to leave, then the move for Bale -- at whatever the cost -- makes perfect sense.

Agree with this post. I thought that Perez has finally understand something about football with the latest signings, but it looks I was wrong. Bale makes sense only if Ronaldo is going to leave.

He's going there whether Ronnie stays or not, the #11 shirt has purposely been left open for him.

How many top quality players do people think Spurs can get for £80m?

How much money would Spurs be prepared to pay for those players, both fees and wages?

It's not as easy as selling Bale and just buying 3-4 top class players.

Last year, I'd have said quite a few. Unfortunately prices have gone nuts this window, so 1.5, possibly two!

Considering they can't offer Champions League football, I don't know what kind of quality they could attract.

Any how many of those 1.5 top class players would want to go to a Spurs side who just sold Bale? Probably down to 1.4 now.

Yes, they'd have to play inflated wages as well as the inflated fee to entice anybody of a "world class" level.

The money really wouldn't help them that much. They'll be able to fund a couple of big fees, but they won't be able to attract players through CL football or huge salaries.

According to The Times and Mail Spurs could be willing to do a deal if Modric comes the other way.

Players like Lloris, Vertonghen, Soldado, Dembele, Paulinho and Sandro have all come to us ... not to mention other players before that. Why you imagine that Spurs with 85m+ to spend would have any great difficulty in signing quality players is baffling tbh.

True, you pay good wages, are based in London and are a good shopping window for players who do well and can move to the top tier. A bit like us except we also offer CL footy.

It's just Levy being a cnut. If they could swing it though it would be a better deal. Regain an influential player, well that is of course if he was willing to return to the club.

I would imagine that anybody who has escaped Danny Boy would never go back.

All those players took a step up joining Tottenham. Modric would be taking a huge step backwards. Tottenham can sign good players, but I doubt they'll be able to sign players that are playing regularly for better clubs.

Yep. It's the very straightforward matter of CL football.

The only way Spurs get Modric back is if Madrid tell him he's dead rubber and no longer wanted.

Although of all the midfielders they have I don't think they'd be getting rid of him. He's been doing Press Conferences about Bale from what I've seen on SSN so I doubt he'll be on the move anytime soon. Think he'll fit in a lot better under Ancelotti's management with Khedira being the victim.

Did any of the said players have offers from teams competing in the Champions League?

They're all talented players but none of them were really top class when they joined you (except maybe Lloris) and you didn't face competition from CL sides from top European leagues. If someone like Vertonghen or Dembele could go to Arsenal or Dortmund instead they would have.

To be fair, half of those players were already playing in the CL.
Who? The only player on that list who joined from a side that qualified for CL was Vertonghen and it was in Dutch league which is two levels below. Soldado's Valencia and Lloris' Lyon didn't qualify the season they left while Dembele, Paulinho and Sandro never even played in CL.

I said 'were'. Going from a team that was playing in the CL regardless of future of qualification was my point.

Disgusting to even think about a side paying £85m for a footballer. This gradual onset of financial doping within football is diluting the magic of the game for me.

I'm not sure if Spurs will spend all of the 85m they'll get on Bale and I think Soldado's money is coming from that deal.

They want a new stadium and until they get a sugar daddy, I can't see them paying for it.
