Gareth Bale Transfer Speculation | Done

I was talking about the awards, though that wasn't clear in my post. As for Bale's record in big games, let's actually take a proper look. He played Chelsea twice and didn't score or assist. This is using your flawed logic of looking at goals to say that he turned up, which is a bit absurd. In both games, I remember him looking out of depth, plus Adebayor was the best player on the field in the second league encounter between Chelsea and Tottenham. Against us, he scored one goal at Old Trafford - I'll give him that, but his performance was hardly impressive. In the second encounter, Jones and Rafael nullified his threat. Remember, Bale reverted to taking lone range shots (almost scored with one of them). Against Manchester City (away), he looked poor. Spurs were poor throughout. In the second game, he was immense (one goal and one assist). He scored two in two against Arsenal, one in the loss, and the other win in the 2-1 win. Make sure you remember the context, that I'm clearly referring to the awards (you know that now) so that means that some of these performances don't count...

Zing

He was still good in general play even if he wasn't scoring. Bale had a similar drought at the start.

Yeah he looked good but without any end product looking good doesn't really amount to much and overall we generally suffered from RVP's misses (though fortunately the deficit was made up by Rooney's run of good form). Bale's 'drought' wasn't similar at all.

Oh good, I see we have another condescending tit in our midst, how lovely.

If you're referring to the awards then perhaps you shouldn't have responded to my post in the first place seeing as it was quite obvious that I was making a general statement about him being the best player in the Premier League last season.

Most of that is crap though, actually it shows he had more good than bad games against the big teams.

Madrid buy Bale for £85million utd buy ronaldo for £60million- united are £60million out of pocket and Madrid £25million. Utd have a 28 year old and Madrid a 24 year old.

Who gets the best deal?

The one, who gets the undisputed best winger in the world, who has showed his worth on pretty much every level, delivering consistent world class performances for six, seven years?

There is no telling, if Bale will ever reach Ronaldo´s level. He would be by far the higher risk.

Well it's a bit unfair to say that saying as he didn't play in the CL, if you purely take domestic leagues into account he's definitely in the top ten. He was also very good for Spurs in the Europa.

Probably it is a bit unfair, yeah. But big boys show himself in UCL, and Bale hasn't shown himself there yet (except 2 games in group stages). Even if you take into account only domestic leagues Messi, Iniesta, Falcao, Ronaldo, Ibra, Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Ribery, Lewandovski, Vidal, Cavani and RVP have better or at-least as good seasons as him last season. Muller, Gundogan and Reus if you take into context UCL too.

Don't get me wrong, he's a brilliant player and would have loved to see him playing in a United shirt but at the moment I don't think that he's yet on top 5 - top 10 and 85m pounds is ridiculous. But as Sphaero said, Real Madrid is the biggest circus and having lose the title and Neymar to Barca they are going to do the thing they do best, spend, spend and spend.

What are the biggest bids turned down? DIdn't someone like.. Anzhi bid over £200 million for Messi. I think that triggered a clause in his contract, but assuming it hadnt would Barcelona have turned them down? I think so. From that, is Bale worth £85 million.

No.

Of course 85m is ridiculous, but so is saying he wasn't the best player in the PL last season, and if you were to compare any Utd player to him, it should be Carrick, not RvP, who actually didn't have that great a season by his usually magnificent standards (still pretty damn good though).

As I said in an another post, RVP has been our best player last season and best player in the league. Carrick was excellent and probably (likely) more important for us than RVP but that only because our other midfielders are not that good while we have a lot of quality strikers. If our other strikers would have been in the same level of our other midfielders, then RVP would have been much more important than Carrick.

Again, that's a problem on my end - not making myself clear - so I apologise for that. But my intention wasn't to be condescending, the point of the last sentence is that you wouldn't come at me with the "Christ" thing again and understood my point.

Reus as Summit said. Lewandovski is 24 too and is a better player than Bale at the moment. Muller had at-least as good season as Bale in last year. Not saying that they are all better than him, but some of them likely be better in long term. And some of them are already are. Sky should get half of the fee for Bale for overrhyping him

Well if he goes to Madrid he will only get better. He's not going to stop progressing whilst the other automatically do is he? I don't get why this is so important... We watch Bale on a regular basis yet we are quick to say the other guy in X league is better just because he has less hype behind him. Maybe you should write Real Madrid a letter telling them they are better of getting Reus for half the price.

And I actually like Reus.

This is where I partly agree with you. IMO, Carrick was our best player last season, based on consistency obviously. Van Persie and Rafael in second and third respectively. Over the course of the season, it's really tough. It can go both ways IMO - you can look at it from the perspective that Van Persie played a big role in ensuring we won the league and that isn't a dig at our other fundamental components of our team, hence he was better. Or, you can look at it from the perspective that Bale had a standard start to the season, but was consistently excellent after it and was more consistent than Van Persie, who had a rough period in 2013.

I watch both Bayern and Dortmund more than Spurs so definitely I am not making a statement based on which player is more hyped.

Madrid is probably the biggest retard when it comes to big transfers (Kaka, Robinho, Baptista, Robben etc) and very often they transfers are big failures or they choose the right man. Going to Madrid doesn't guarantee that he'll continue developing and get better. As Casano and the other 4 guys I mention, going to Madrid could be a very bad step for a career.

I don't really get the argument here. It's pointless arguing who's worth what. At the end of the day a player is worth whatever a buyer is prepared to pay / what a club is prepared to sell for.

Madrid clearly feel Bale is worth 85million for what he brings to the club on the pitch/in that position/in the market etc etc at this particular point in time. Hence why they're offering that amount of cash.

It's why I hate it when ever anyone trots out the old "well if Andy Carroll is worth 35 million" "if Torres is worth 50million" etc etc. It's all relative to the player and the 2 clubs at that moment in time.

How is there even a debate whether Bale was the best player in the league last season? It was debatable until the last two months, he was by far the best player during the crucial part of the season. He might not be worth £85m but he was better than Suarez and van Persie.

I agree with your last sentence though, Madrid ruin a lot of good players but if it happens to Bale we can always get him on the cheap after.

The fact that people are debating whether he was the best EPL player or not last year means he isn't worth 85 million.

What does this even mean? Manchester United dont think he's worth 85mil and hence arent bidding. Real think he is worth 85mil to them and hence are putting the cash where their mouth is. Fair fecks to them. I think its crazy too but if you say that, I actually think no player in the world is worth 85mil. But then if Real think the 85mil is worth it both on and off the pitch, I see no problem with it. They're crazy when it comes to transfers but their continuance to do such deals tells me its sustainable, so why not?

Carrick was brilliant, but Van Persie turned those games in our favour. Arsenal at home, Chelsea away, City away, Liverpool at home...I could go on.

Just because he scored the goals doesn't mean he turned the game in our favor. Carrick was better than RvP for me as well. And maybe even Rafael too.

Anyone arguing that he wasn't the best INDIVIDUAL in the league is an idiot. Anyone not arguing that he isn't worth £85m is also an idiot.

It means he's not worth 85 million? What a rant

Carrick was voted United Players Player of the Year. Says a lot.

I think that the debate here is if he's worth 85m compared to other players who have been transferred. Of course, technically you're right, a player is worth what a club is willing to pay for him, which means that Carroll was worth 35m. We still joke on that though.

United should put a £90 million bid on for Bale. Hopefully it will cause Madrid to put in at least £95 million

He was a tour-de-force for the final two/three months of last season. van Persie's form tailed off around the same period, and Suarez is a cnut, so Bale didn't really have anyone challenging him towards the end of the season. Good player, but not worth that incredible amount of money.

I don't think it's that clear cut in his favour, to be fair.
Only if people can't admit the truth. Had Spurs made the CL, his goals would've been worth a hell of a lot more. That's the only downside to what he did last year. He genuinely won a shit load of points on his own.

Worth is a very subjective term but your response did make me laugh. Simply saying player X is worth Ymil means nothing. Its a stupid statement.

And van Persie didn't?

He's also only 24, if he's a success there they'll get 6-7 years out of him. Having Bale and Isco around for the best part of the next decade will be a good platform to future success. Trouble is I'm not sure Bale has what it takes to be a star for Real Madrid, he had a great season last term but there's a massive difference between playing for Tottenham and being their biggest star and trying to meet the expectations put on an £85m player at Real Madrid.

The likes of Zidane, Figo, Beckham and both Ronaldos came from extremely successful clubs (except for Brazilian Ronaldo who didn't endure much success at club level before the move, he made up for it by winning the World Cup with Brazil), had success at international stage etc. Bale has won League Cup and 4th place finish trophy so far. It'll be a huge challenge.

van Persie had a number of players doing the business behind him. He wasn't having to whack in a shot from 25 yards through 7 defenders or running through an entire defence to score his goals. Take nothing away from what he did for us, but Bale had a goal of the season contest with himself at times.

Exactly. I think the fans just tend to look at the goalscorer and think yeah he's the best player for us but Carrick was even more vital to us than RvP was imo and the Players seem to agree.

Bale has won the League Cup?

Edit - Nope. You obviously meant runner up. I'm not meaning to be a dick about it.

Think you're being a bit harsh on Tottenham, Bale was as integral to any success they had as much as van Persie was for us.

What Bale did last season is very unlikely to be repeatable. He may score more goals, but he won't score as many crucial goals out of nothing. I don't want to say he got lucky, but I think randomness and adapting defenders will cut out most of the wonder goals. If United had got 100 points last season, would you expect us to equal it this year?

However Bale is obviously a talented player and will adapt to this, perhaps scoring goals more associated with a typical centre forward.

Yeah, Van Persie didn't score any great individual goals last year.
