Gareth Bale Transfer Speculation | Done

Levy should accept in a heartbeat. Bale's 30 goals are replaceable by Soldado, but it's his match winning moments and general heroics that need replacing and Spurs would need to sign a world class player or 2 to make up for that. Getting Modric back would make sense.

I doubt RM would let Modric go. Cash + Coentrao would be more likely. If I were to speculate in this hypothetical, cash-rich scenario:

-------------- Lloris
Walker - Kaboul - Vertonghen - Coentrao
----- Paulinho - Dembele - Sandro
------ Lamela - Soldado - Bernard

Highly speculative, of course, but IMO it'd be hard to argue that with this best XI Spurs wouldn't be stronger than last season, even without Bale.

You're not signing Bernard but yeah, with £85m well spent you'd be much stronger.

Surely Holtby will be in your first team?

Nothing I've seen from Forbes type lists or turnover releases have ever implied that Madrid are so far and away the biggest profit makers in football, let alone the single most able to spend insane amounts of money as consistently as they do.

Revenue of football clubs:

1. Real Madrid 512.6m EUR
2. Barcelona 483m EUR
3. Man Utd 395.9m EUR
4. Bayern Munich 368.4m EUR
5. Chelsea 322.6m EUR

Both Real and Barca have much bigger revenues than us. Probably after the new TV deal, Chevrolet and the eventual Nike deal the difference will be lower though.

Will be really disappointed if we do not make a bid.

We can't afford to see this kid slip through our fingers.

I can't see it. He was a bargain for the price, but in a 4-3-3 (which is what AVB ideally wants) I just don't know who he'd displace. He's only 22 and likely to come on further this season, but I'd forsee more of a squad rotation/injury cover role for him this time around.

We can't (and shouldn't) bid 85m pounds for Bale. We can get Marko Reus who is as good for half of that sum next summer. Bale is good but come on, 85m is stupidity of Carroll/Torres level.

Bale, for me, is going to be the best player in the world in the future. I think the lad is brilliant footballer and, by all accounts, a solid professional. If RM were to £90M for him then they will easy make it back and why not pay that much? We all know how the best players move for ballistically high prices, so surely a youngster with more talent than most, should command the best price.
If united were to pay £90M for him, i'd be happy because I believe he will be amazing. Unfortunately, at United is something he will only be when RM play us in the CL.

I know you've admitted the fact you're being speculative, but if Bale moves for £85m I think Lamela's price instantly shoots up and probably prices him out of a move in the near future (although he might not actually want to move anyway). Unless of course everyone starts paying over the odds like Madrid.

Some fans get a bit carried away with this talk of matching Madrid's bid.

Madrid and Barcelona are able to negotiate their own tv deals which gives them a massive advantage over everyone straight away. Then there's the shady link up Madrid have with their government.

Us spending 85m on one player?

our record is 30m. People seem to forget this amid mad fees talk.

I really don't think it's that bad of a price. He's has the global superstar factor already and that's whilst only playing for Spurs.

I sincerely don't think that he'll ever be near to win the Ballon D'Or. He is the most overrated player in the world at the moment. He is good but there are plenty of players in the world who are as good as him (or have similar potential).

Really? A world record bid for a player who wasn't even the best in the Premier League last year? Come on. The game has gone fecking bonkers. He's not even in the top 5 players currently playing.

It is insane but he was one of, if not the best, players in the league last year. I agree that it's too much for him though.

Götze, Neymar, Gündoğan, Thiago and Isco are just a few young players I think will be better than Bale in five years.

If we sell Rooney I think we'd go for Bale. But agree Madrid are offering silly money and spurs will sell there. Hope giggsy gets a chat with him first

It's way too much. He'll never play at a world cup, so shirt sales will never be that of a Ronaldo a Messi or even a Neymar. Bale is at most 50 million. A world record bid, and the fact Levy would reject it, shows that football is going to implode soon.

Whilst I agree in a technical perspective, other than Neymar I don't think you can compare those players to Bale.

He's a 20 yard Hollywood goal speed merchant, watching him is far more exciting to the common fan than it is watching Gotze or Thiago split a defence. He's more likely to win awards because he is more of an individual.

However, if Barcelona handle Neymar right, he will be ahead of Bale. That little man is a genius, and he's got the Hollywood side in his locker.

A friend on facebook, who lives in Cardiff, has posted that Bale was in the shop she works in today and when they asked him about going to Madrid he didn't really give an answer.

Of course they're not really all that comparable on the pitch. What I meant with the contrast is the likely difference in fees these players will go for and have gone for. All cheaper than £85 million, and some are more proven.

I'd agree that his current valuation in today's market should be somewhere around £50m. Football isn't going to implode but prices continue to get more and more ridiculous anyway.

What do you think Glaston? Still confident Bale will stay?

It depends if RM actually officially offer the eye-watering amounts being touted. If they do (and I'm sceptical they will), then I'd sell if it were my decision.

But still, I wouldn't put it past Levy to still say no: even assuming an official bid of £85m+ I'd still only give it a less than 50% chance of acceptance. But make it £90m + Coentrao and I don't see even Levy refusing further.

IF RM are actually so mad-desperate-keen to get him, then there's no way I can continue to predict with 100% confidence that Bale will be staying ... because in the end every player has their price, as we've seen with Ronaldo.

We'll implode, because we can't compete.

Not ONE of them will be better than Bale.

**Except Neymar;)**

Please tell me this is a joke.

He was on top 3 players of the league last season but I don't think that he is on top 10 best players in Europe at the moment. 85m pounds is fecking ridiculous and it could be the deal of the century for Spurs.

Well he clearly was the best. Hence him winning every award going.

Reus as Summit said. Lewandovski is 24 too and is a better player than Bale at the moment. Muller had at-least as good season as Bale in last year. Not saying that they are all better than him, but some of them likely be better in long term. And some of them are already are. Sky should get half of the fee for Bale for overrhyping him

That means feck all. He won it 2 years ago when he was just average. Giggs won the price on 2009 although he started only 12 games at the moment he won the price. By top 5 players I think he meant top 5 players in Europe and I completely agree. It is generous mentioning Bale even in top 10 players in Europe at the moment.
