Gareth Bale Transfer Speculation | Done

I don't think that puts Bale out of our price range. I'm sure if we wanted to match Madrid's offer, we have the ability to do it. It's not value for money though and it's most certainly not value for money for Real Madrid when you look at the squad they've already got.
We put a starting offer of 25 million for Fabregas. Do you see United ever going to 85 million for any player? And that's the starting offer of Madrid as well.. Like it or not, we are trying to prove a point and have a policy of not getting mixed up in the super ridiculous money stakes.

Out of the price range we'd be willing to pay though, which amounts to the same thing in the end.

Sorry but that's scouse logic, that I am sure could be adapted for a lot of transfers. If Bale is sold for £85m, he is the most expensive transfer ever and it's as simple as that.

This is mathematics. I doubt that scouse are any good in economy.

Point stands that corrected for inflation, Ronaldo is still more expensive. Its irrevelant anyway, 85m is still too much for Bale.

If Barca have that kind of money, I'd have to imagine they're using a far larger than average portion of it on their youth setup.
Barca spend their share as well, they don't generate as much as Madrid from departing players.

Madrid have sold Higuain for £33m, Albiol for £10.5m, Callejon for £8.6m and Pedro Leon for £6m this Summer. Their net spend is close to nothing assuming they get VAT money back from Illarramendi deal - Isco for £26m, Illarramendi for £26m (£21m without VAT), Carvajal for £6m and Casemiro for £5m.

Last season they only signed Modric for £26m and Lopez for £3m while selling Diarra, Granero, Canales, Gago and Altintop for a total of £30m.

I'm not isn't mathematics. I'm saying inflation is irrelevant, it's clutching at straws just to keep your favourite player as a record breaker.

Nothing I've seen from Forbes type lists or turnover releases have ever implied that Madrid are so far and away the biggest profit makers in football, let alone the single most able to spend insane amounts of money as consistently as they do.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8094864.stm

In 2006 they agreed to a TV deal worth 1.1 billion euros for coverage upto last season, that's an incredible amount. 1.1 billion! The next year they accepted an image rights deal with Adidas worth 762m euros.

I don't think Madrid have offered £85m.
I don't think Madrid have even made an offer yet.
I don't think Bale is pushing for a move.

For profit, we're currently second, behind Madrid but just ahead of Bayern and Barca.

In terms of overall value, we've slipped from top place to second behind Madrid. But really that's mostly because that evaluation came too soon to take into account the new PL TV deal or the upcoming Nike renegotiation which will surely give us a massive boost.
I seem to remember a list(which are released yearly I guess) on which United were third behind Barca and United. United used to be second behind Madrid but recently slipped to third. Anyways may be you know more about it.
Value of the club is a different thing on which United slipped from 1st to second. I do expect us to comeback on that thing though. Anyways that is all pointless, simple thing is no matter how, but Madrid seem to have a lot of money.

I gotta disagree with you. The timing doesn't really matter. If you were going to sell Ronaldo, you would break the record prior to doing that. With all the players they have, why now? Granted, Barcelona have brought in good players but so did Madrid prior to going for Bale. Perhaps we're bidding low for Fabregas for a reason? He's quite clearly the player we want - but I don't think anyone was really convinced by the price we were offering. Why didn't we just offer 45 million to start with?

People might say we'd never do that, but that's exactly what you got to do or you wait patiently for their contract to run down. When it comes to Madrid, you're talking about a club with a big ego who views world record fees as great marketing...

Right. But they don't just pick names out of a hat, they scout the players and decide who they want above all other players and then they go all out to sign them. How is that panicking? Thats the opposite of panicking. If they left it till the last day of the window and tried to sign Nani for £60 million because they couldnt get Bale, thats panicking. Going after your first choice with time to spare and not absolutely having to sell Ronaldo for it to happen, is not panicking. At worst it's moving on without your star player but paying way too much because the club your first choice is playing for are notoriously difficult to talk to.

We can't even say that every supporter in madrid, contributes a bit of money so that they can have their annual Muppet feast, since they all are unemployed.

I don't think Madrid have offered £85m.
I don't think Madrid have even made an offer yet.
I don't think Bale is pushing for a move.
Eh? Then I suggest taking off your tinfoil hat.

There can't be this much smoke without a fire.

This will hurt Ronaldo's ego. Good job he is coming home.

But that was the initial point in fairness, I wasn't sure if there wasn't more going on that didn't meet the eye.

I don't think Madrid have even made an offer yet.
I don't think Bale is pushing for a move.

First may be debatable but i do think that Madrid will have made an opening bid to test the waters, plus it's been widely reported that contract talks are ongoing. I don't think they'd be going on for so long unless Bale was pushing, even if it was slightly, for a move.

There can be when most of it comes from Marca.

Tottenham's official Facebook page has apparently removed the image of Gareth Bale as its header. What say to that? Is that Marca?

Do you mean to say that the media...are making shit up?

Their debts are guaranteed by the government, aren't they?

No.

And their bank / commercial debt is down to 125m Euros - on which they pay low rates of interest.

They have a football trading debt (to other clubs) but nothing they can't service in FFP terms.

Obviously not down to Marca. Who knows, I rarely look at the Spurs FB page ... perhaps the banner picture is periodically rotated at set intervals (there are other players in our squad besides Bale you know)?

Or perhaps RM have offered £90m + Coentrao? If so, I'd happily take that.

They've got similar youth budgets. Madrid have a bigger youth structure but fewer living on club premises. Madrid are major suppliers of young players to the rest of La Liga, they just struggle to get them into their own team.

Barca have been going through a stage with their first team recently like the one we had in the 90s. It's not typical historically and the issues they've had this summer with Thiago and the players they've had to loan out, tells you what a difficult trick it is to pull off.

Would certainly wipe the smug smile off a few Tottenham fans faces if Bale went. Some of them think they'll be giving us a right rivalling this year.
Without Bale? Not so much.

Yeah, definately. But not for just £85m, because that would be silly, eh?

How much would you valuate Messi in today's market?

When Bale is sold for £85m, HE will be the most expensive, not Ronaldo, are Madrid paying us the inflation value every year, I dont think so, they paid us £80m.

With £85m+ to spend, plus Paulinho and Soldado already done .... in that event you might want to hold your horses a second or two.

Levy should accept in a heartbeat. Bale's 30 goals are replaceable by Soldado, but it's his match winning moments and general heroics that need replacing and Spurs would need to sign a world class player or 2 to make up for that. Getting Modric back would make sense.

Tbf although Modric is quality that's probably least where they need a player. If they can get someone they should get Di Maria as they'll need a new winger anyway.
