So,

Bale-Isco-Ronaldo
Benzema

with Bale and Ronaldo swapping wings and Di Maria, Modric, Ozil on the bench? Thats ridiculous. They'd be better off leaving Bale and playing Ozil in the center with Isco on the right/left. Madrid are tools.

Yes, that is stupid. It's basically a Champions League team too, as there is only Barca to compete with (and still probably lose too) the title. All that talent in such an uncompetitive league, that's the crime.

Honestly no way you can justify that deal, he's had two good half seasons and that's it. If I were spurs though I'd try and hold out for a little more, if it's true they're clearly mental, may as well exploit it. Can only think they want to trump neymar and think Bale is that guy, which he probably is with Falcao gone. But still insane, especially as I can't see how you get the best out of him and Ronaldo at the same time. Puts in to context our attempts to get Fabregas if we stop at 30m though.

Surely Ozil has to start?? He's better than any of their attacking players bar Ronaldo and even then he creates far more chances than Ronaldo. fecking madness

Take the money and run. A spurs team with 85m worth of new players will be a stronger team than keeping Garath Bale. Sign Soldado and still have over 60m (not even counting their initial budget) to buy 2-3 more top quality players.

If Madrid put this money into disposing of Pepe and buying a top class defender who isn't a thug and can play football, they'd eradicate almost every problem they had in losing the title last year, especially after already beefing up their midfield.

Bale is so unnecessary regardless of the fact that he obviously would improve most teams around.

They'd need to buy replacements first. Otherwise teams know you have money to spend and you buy Andy Carroll for £35 million

Excellent player yes, but worth £85m, £5m more than Ronaldo, I dont think so.

Spurs have to sell at that price, they would be stupid not to, so long has they get the money now and not in drips and drabs, they have funds to buy replacements.

Too attacking?

Then watch some more of him. They are both excellent shot stoppers. I'd say they are the two best in the league, with Lloris ahead for me. Until Courtois comes :D

I've watched both of them quite a bit. Both are excellent, but one is better than the other. That's all.

Of course, this may all change and Lloris may in the end become the better keeper -- the gods will reveal what they wish to reveal when it suits them -- but if we're going off 12/13 form only it's De Gea > Lloris. Please note that I'm not suggesting that De Gea is miles ahead of Lloris. I'm only suggesting that while both were excellent last season De Gea was the better keeper.

As for Courtois, I've only seen highlights of his best moments. Great stuff indeed, but I won't offer an opinion on him until I see him play several games first whistle to last.

Comparing the Ronaldo/Bale price isn't really fair, prices have inflated too much since then. If you teleported Bale back to 2009 he'd be going for around 40m, which seems about right.

 Bale and Ronaldo would be an awesome counter attacking team!

Real vs Barca will now truly be power&speed vs technique&artistry

Nah it'll be the same as every season, a diving contest and seeing how many times you can con the ref into booking someone or sending them off

Those things are always rubbish though. You could do Ronaldo + Cantona + Keane + Vidic etc etc.

Actually the top fees were higher then as we've already talked about

Who are we to say that this is retarded by madrid? They have the money...they want the man. This is just how they role. They think Bale will make madrid from commercial point of view. I hope they pay around 90 m pounds and he turns out to be the biggest flop of all time.....it would be very funny then.

`They have to sell.

This reminds me of when I was playing as QPR on FM, City made a 29m bid for Samba, i said i was willing to negotiate. They never got back to me. :(

I don't think that's right personally, there has been some general inflation and more oil money but theres nowhere near enough to suggest a 40m player is now worth 80m+. I mean Bale is not worth 30m more than Falcao. Combination of Reals insanity and Levy managing to get a great deal again.

I can see you point, but you can hardly blame Bale's head being turn by Madrid.
Like you say Madrid want their man.
I hope he does well, can only be good for English football.

Sorry, I missed that part. You mean the fees payed for top players were generally higher back then? I'd have thought that prices have naturally inflated (as they always do in football) + been pushed up by the mega-money clubs, no? Thus you get deals and prices that seem overpriced (Cavani, Falcao, Lucas, Suarez, Fernandinho, Bale) but actually reflect the current standard in the market. If 2009 era Ronaldo was around today would he not be going for around 100m?

To be fair Bale is 24 while Falcao is 27, that makes some difference.

True but Falcao is also a proven goal machine, they're banking on him really upping his game to get to Ronaldo/Messi levels, not to mention the fact that both he and Ronaldo can't have the same freedom in one team that they're used to right now imo. So either one of them goes central which we've not seen much off, or one of them has to hold back a little.

Wish we would pay what it took to get the players we wanted :(

I mean, really, I don't give 2 hoots about the clubs financial position, I really don't.

Had anybody thought to ask where on earth they have 85m from? I'm sorry, but there is no way they have that in cash. They refuse to offer ronaldo more money because they can't afford it. The only way they could afford the likes of ronaldo and kaka last time is because they mortgaged their training ground for 200m. All that money has gone now. They don't have a new tv deal like we do. .. so where is the money coming from? They do not have this money in cash, not in a million years

Why would Bale doing well at Madrid be good for English football? Cant see the connection.

Would be people honestly be upset if we paid that much for him? Assuming we have the money of course and it did not hinder a move for a midfielder or two.

I wouldn't at all, don't care how much The club spends on great players.

Personally would rather spend 40 each on fabregas and gundogen or have gotten players of the ilk mentioned in that tweet for the same amount.

I agree! I'd also take the hit on a world class midfielder if we got Bale. get in Fellaini. If we spent £100m on those 2, it would be insane, but it woundn't bother me.

We wont do it though, Manchester United are too financially prudent to do that. Only because we have a much bigger income do we spend more then Arsenal, else both clubs practice the same sort of financial savvy. With United, its been there since Martin Edwards with his very strict salary bands and ceiling.

So out of interest from a personel/ squad POV, where/how would you rank the top 4 English clubs as things stand? For me it's

Manchester United
Chelsea
Manchester City
Spurs/Arsenal

I'll do my rankings (i.e. league finish predictions) when the transfer window closes .... because otherwise there are just too many unknowns.

I think we can all agree that football has completely lost the plot. In my lifetime I can only think of a couple of 45/50M+ transfers (Ronaldo, Zidane, Figo, Kaka) - some of the best players of all time, but in the last couple of summers there have been a rash of them (Hulk, Falcao, Cavani, Torres, Neymar, Bale presumably). I know there has been inflation, but there seems to have been a complete abandonment of common sense. FFP? Financial lunacy more like. Now to get a decent player you have to bid 30M+. Just look at Real buying Illarramendi. What was it? 34M? Just total bonkers. Football will lynch itself at this point. I almost hope United start to exclusively look at bargains and the kids. Someone needs to change the plot.
