Barca could do worse and buy him to play LB. He'd be very similar to Alves on the far side.

The Inter match added 10 million and his nationality another 10. Objectively, he's worth around 20 million imo.
.

Funny thing is that in some ways the Inter super show had maybe more to do with Maicon just being utter cack and overtired than to Bale performing miracles. If you watch the game again you see how slow Maicon was at tracking back and his pace was shocking too and he was a burnt out shadow of the player that won everything just months before.

He could be class for 15 years.

I wouldn't. We could buy a world class midfielder and GK for that price, 2 positions we are far more in need of players.

When last was the hype this ridiculous on any given player? (and not just because his British). The hype around Wilshere has been high - but IMO, mostly merited up until this point.

Bale, as fantastic a future as he clearly has in the game, after only a handful of majestic performance in Europe was hyped up as one of the best in the world. Ridiculous.

The funny (yet frustrating) part is that players like Scholes, who has just about done it, seen it and conquered it all before has gone through his entire career being undervalued by the very people (media etc) who are hyping Bale to another planet.

Not that it matters one bit to Scholes though.

Last ultra-super-mega-hyped player? Maybe Anderson on here when he arrived as "The new Ronaldinho" and plenty of posters suggested he'll be world player of the year one day.

The Next Thierry Henry himself....

Don't deny it, you all fell for the hype in his first game.

2 goals yesterday he may well be yet

Hopefully he'll become a very good player, and with those goals, more in the mould of the player we thought he could be.

But personally never looked like a potential best in the world for me.

In the same way, Bale is very good and if he were at a really top team he'd only be better. Would be a really good improvement for most of those teams - but value for money, probably not

it's hilarious when posters think they know exactly what footballer(s) cost in today's market.

I'd like to see a true world class midfielder sell for well under 45m in this current market

Depends on how you define world class.

Look lads, he's just signed a new contract. He won't be going anywhere this summer atleast.

Also, I just don't get the hype about this guy.

My thought about him is, when he loses a step what type of player will he be?

Exactly Alex, if he loses that yard of pace... He'll lose it.

He's not the Giggsy type to adapt and change imo. He doesn't have the technique and skill to hack it imo.

I mean he's not bad, but from what we've seen so far, everything was about pace in which Giggsy showed a lot more as a Youngster... Nani was far better, not to mention Ronaldo.

I would prefer a more technical player if we were really going to invest 30m on a player.

But Bale won't be bad. Its just the pricetag that's going to be a huge issue

I would love for us to sign Bale but for the improvement he would bring to us wouldn't be enough to justify his price tag in my opinion. Buying him would improve our squad and arguably make a marginal improvement to my team. Buying a top drawer goalkeeper or centre midfielder would greatly improve our team (obviously factoring in VDS's departure), and if we shop intelligently we could get both for the prices being touted for Bale.

This is the question with Bale. How different would he be from Downing without his pace?

Did he assist today? If not then he's not scored a goal since August and not assisted one since the 2nd of November in the PL.

Eh? He's scored 5 goals since August?! And had assists since November as well.

 Being a shit poster is one thing, but how hard can it be to at least confirm stats that you recycle from one forum to another?

Was there on several places on Twitter. Time to stop relying so much on Twitter :nervous:

But the point remains that besides the two Inter games where he was fantastic he's been slight under whelming this season. But then he's also been injured a lot.

PS: I was right about the Assists part. Just one assist in the PL but he does have 4 goals in the PL since November.

In his last 17 games in all competitions he has 3 goals and 2 assists. So yes besides those spectacular Inter games, he has struggled a bit in the PL.

You posted that same incorrect fact on the last page too and I already corrected you.

I know prices are high but you need to remember that only three players cost £45m or more in the past few years and they were all way ahead of where the likes of Bale are now. He will be very expensive but it's certainly possible to see a quality player go for less and there are numerous examples from the last few years.

Like so ?

So as a poster, you know that a world class midfielder won't go for under 45m, right? Just so we're clear?
have you been paying attention to the quality of footballers being purchased lately? and for the amount they've been purchased?

Andy Carroll went for 30m, Torres for 50m, ffs

and this is Manchester United we are talking about. Sellings clubs aren't exactly going to give SAF a bargain on a world class player. I would actually like to try to see United try to pull of purchasing several players for less than or equal to 45m in this current marketplace.

it irks me when posters assume that this "over-pricing" is a temporary thing that is going to go away. "no way a player is worth that much" or "I wouldn't pay more than _______ for him". it is as if 99% of the caf has never studied basic economics, ever heard of the term 'inflation'? or how about supply and demand?

his initial point was that for 45m, he thinks the club will be able to purchase a world class midfielder and a capable GK to replace VDS

in today's market, I do not think that is impossible.

We should be hunting for the new Nani/Ronaldo type player who wouldn't cost us more than 20m...

Who's the best winger who's playing in the leagues apart from Spain/Italy and England ?

Douglas Costa ? Hazard ? I'm sure Arruda can provide more info. in the Portuguese league where I've heard some good things from Salvio ( TBF he's on loan from Ath. Madrid )

Goetze despite being played as a CM has the skills to hack it as a winger too imo. He can cut inside and cause tons of damage with his pace and close control.

I could not agree with you more.

I think it may be to do with the fact that we haven't be involved in the upper end of the transfer market for a three summers now.

People here don't seem to grasp that the market price for quality players has grown in the last two-three seasons.

As have club revenues and the demand has increased with the likes of City and Real stimulating the market.

If we want a top quality midfielder, it will likely cost around the £40m mark.

I hope to god we're in for Bale this summer. I have no doubt in my mind that Fergie would love to have this kid - whether he has the funds is another matter. Especially as he needs a world class CM and a GK, also.

He's 21 now isn't he? Won't be losing his pace any time soon

... I hope to god we're in for Bale this summer....
It's not going to happen.

Player of the Year winner Bale ready to commit to Spurs
Gareth Bale will be crowned the PFA's Player of the Year tonight. And Arsenal's Jack Wilshere will be named Young Player of the Year at the prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel event.

And there's cause for a double celebration for Tottenham fans as Bale, their 21 year-old superstar, is ready to confirm his commitment to the White Hart Lane club.

Despite signing a contract extension until 2015, the 21-year-old has been linked with a host of European giants leading to fears Tottenham could cash-in if they fail to secure a top four finish in the Premier League and a place in next season's Champions League.

But Bale said last night: "I am happy at Tottenham. I only recently signed a contract extension. Does that suggest I'm looking to leave the club?

"The thought has never crossed my mind, not at this stage of my career. I owe a great deal to the club and I firmly believe in loyalty."
